words can't xplain how insane it is for new players to start.  you can read  all the fanboy threads.. but even fan boys will be hard to explain this simple logic.  This is what you are paying 14.99 for:

More experience players can kill you anytime.  If they can't, they can do the following things:

1. war'dec you (granted permission to kill you anywhere)

2. Sudicide attack, (attacking you at their lost)

you can read all the explainations, justification, and EvE's "love me" threads.. but the bottom line, if someone want to kill you... THERE IS NOT THING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.. what does is this mean? imagine you spent 1 mth working for cash to buy a nice shield, sword, armors and spells, but out of nowhere some more high level player just gank on you.  Once you are dead, all items are gone and so is your 1 mth hard labor!!

it is your 14.99... you are more than welcome to throw it away.  EVE older players are looking for more noobs to kill.. please  be a victim!!!

It just means that CCP doesnt hold your hand , like wow ect.. so when you do get in your nice battleship you make sure to take care , and for your information it costs a corp 200mil ISK a week to war-dec u , so it isnt cheap if they want to waste money its up to them , ive been playing since 2003 and ive been pod killed and blown to bits by players that have only been playing a few weeks.

So in essence what you are saying is that Eve-Online is a game where anything is possible at any time and your own wits are sometimes the only difference between life and death?

    No brains, no headache. =)

  • FinwolvenFinwolven Member Posts: 289

You are also mistaken in the following regards:

    1) NPC corps cannot be wardecked. If you are in an NPC corp, you are always inside CONCORD protection. This does not protect you from getting killed if you join a warring gang or give kill-rights to someone by stealing from their cans etc.

    2) Suicide attacks can be endured by following the EVE age-old mantra: Never fly what you can't afford to lose. Remember that ships can be insured, but cargo and fittings can't. Don't put 100Mil worth of stuff inside an untanked hauler, ever.

And yes, CCP doesn't hold your hand, and EVE is a harsh world where dying means you lose what you had on you at that time. It's never claimed to be different, and most 'fanboi' threads say this up front, exhort the virtues of this system, and point out (rightly) that staying alive is up to the player, not the game mechanics.

As for noobs to kill? Most veterans are looking for more people to kill, noob status notwithstanding. You're only a victim as long as you don't decide to do something about it yourself.

The OP is pretty factual other than you can't wardec a NPC faction. There is actually a thread on the main forums where I believe a player was complaining that whenever they wardec someone the members simply jump to another player made corp.

My greatest fault with Eve is not the game but the mentality of the players. It's a self-centered community, there are individuals who are truly generous but they are rare. When I say this, it's not in any monetary way but in the manner of one family helping another. If the game has faults, it falls back on the community because we made it the way it is. This is good too, maybe in the future when a new player joins the game instead of being preyed upon both financially and psychologically they are nurtured and given a sense of happiness, that hey, Eve is a great place to spend your free time.

It is funny to read fans of EVE defending their position...   I swear EVE players don't look in the mirror before typing a reply... so, if i were to summary their talking points on EVE:

It is the new players fault for being a noob and stupid.  Deal with it.   You are going to die, there is nothing you can do about it.

Am I right?  Seriously, if you analys their replies, you will see that you are no longer playing your game.  You have to do XYZ in order for you to be safe. WHY DOES NEW PLAYER HAVE  TO DO XYZ in order to be safe? So far we got a few replies and all of them have the same underlining theme.   Question to anyone that wants to waste 14.99...  Go read their forum on "War'Dec" and noobs killing.. You will get the same theme message.

    Hey, it is your money....

    Yay trolls!  Meh, i'll bite.

Yep.  The OP is absolutely right.  If someone wants to attack you at any time in any place, they can -- and will.  You are going to get killed/lose your ship, there is nothing you can do about it.

You can also read in the these "Eve fanboi" threads about all of this.  The OP is not actually bringing any new information to the table.  He isn't trying to help anyone.  He is merely posting a flamatory post in order to generate a flamatory response from those that like Eve so he can feel like he's actaully a good forum troll.  He will succeed as there are many Eve fanboi's on this forum that will jump all over him.  Rightly so imo, we defend what we like and we attack what we don't -- or in the OP's case -- we attack what we don't understand.

Dear OP - I wish you the best of luck in your future trolling endeavors.  I hope that all potential Eve players read this thread because your pointing out that it is a Free For All Player Versus Player game is spot on and something that everyone needs to know.  Course, there are plenty of things in the game that keep players from attacking you at anytime - anywhere but the OP doesn't bother mentioning those at all...   Hence why he is trolling.

gl hf diaf k plz thx!

Yes, you are right, it is a new players fault for being a noob and stupid.  Before I even set out to play EVE I downloaded and read 1/2 dozen game guides, which all made it pretty clear what sort of shenanigans I should steer clear of.

That said, in the past year since I joined I've lost 100M Isk in goods to a suicide camper, lost 3 or 4 BS's ships while ratting in 0.0, ( I tend to doze off in the recliner) lost a 200M isk Drake due to a Privateer Wardec, helped escort a frieghter in 0.0 that got nailed, under the same wardec, and lost at least 1/2 dozen ships trying to run low sec blockades from lowsec to 0.0.

And in every case, in every loss, it was possible for me to avoid it, had I been a bit smarter, faster, cautious or in some cases, just gotten a bit luckier.  But almost all were avoidable had I chosen the correct course of action.

But you see, its not always possible to avoid danger in EVE, and yes, sometimes you will screw up, or the gods will be against you, and you are going to die.  To play is to accept that, to allow for it and to make sure you never, ever fly anything you can't afford to lose. (but of course, half the fun is breaking that rule)

And yet, despite all of that, I've managed to thrive and prosper in the EVE universe.  I've gotten in  on my share of kills during 0.0 fleet actions and gate camps, have over 2B Isk in my coffers, a personal fleet of 6 ships atm, (have had as many as 15)  and between my 2 characters can fly every sort of Tech 1 & 2 combat ship up to Battleships. (excluding interdictors)

As I move into my second year I'm taking a short break from 0.0 and reassessing my goals.  Should I train Capitol Ship skills, take a foray in the pirate world, become a mercenary, or horror of horrors, take up mining?  So many choices, and all under my own control an direction.

Yes, EVE is a challenge, and takes some thinking to survive. And acceptance that sometimes, you just won't survive, and thats OK.  Yes, there are some bad people in the universe who will prey on noobs, or those who can't fight back.  That's ok, thats what the game is all about.  You can chose to be one of them, to oppose them or avoid them, all are possible in EVE.

OP is just not up to the challlenge, but maybe some others who read this thread are.

Eve isn't the game for you.

You have to get used to the idea of a game with no limits that can't be passed in one way or another. The name of the game is risk vs reward.

For one, never fly what you can't afford to lose. There are also ways to deal with any problem. Use a scout to find suicide gank squads, get friends to fight off an experienced greifer corp. Fly cheap T1 ships so it isn't worth it for them to kill you, use diplomany, ect...

Well....In a way I can see what Hi-Five is saying...but I do have to agree that it's what EVE is all about. I dont understand how New players are at a disadvantage O.o More so as you progress in your skills and start to venture deeper into low-sec space.

I played EVE for a year or so. When I first started playing I loved it! (my poor WoW account was just sitting there not being used) I loved the open style of it (Sandbox (?))

I was freelance for awhile (NPC Corp), mostly interested in Mfg.. I tried some Player Corps. I Became a director in a Player Corp with several POS's and a pretty good Mining/Mfg. operation going.

The game seemed pretty well balanced as far as Pirates V Miners.

I was having a blast.(Only thing I missed was being able to exit my pod and walk around stations and planets) You actually had to THINK about what you were doing, plan your mining ops...and ALWAYS be prepared to warp out at the sight of danger.

I think it was one of the best designed games out there!

Then, what, about a year ago they nerf'd the WCS's and it was no longer a battle of whits to survive. They made it so Pirates had distinct advantages...and most notably, made it where running WCS's (Warp Core Stabilizers) gave major DISadvantages. Suddenly, with WCS's mounted, you couldnt hardly maneuver...it took forever to warp out of bad situations.

It seemed to me that CCP was FORCING PvP.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed PvP in EVE. I was in a Corp that was War Dec'd. There is even a vid floating around out there of one of our epic battles...lol. Had some pretty good battles with Pirates. Won some/Lost some. I even struck up some pretty good OL friendships with some of the pirates and those we were at war with.

Skill played a much bigger part before that patch. Suddenly you started seeing more peeps running around just giefing others making it almost impossible to solo mine...and there was too many times when there were no Corp members online and I NEEDED Mins now...not in 3-4 days.

Anyway...having survived one mmo that I had invested years with totally nerf the game, I was gun shy and decided not to hang around while CCP changed EVE, forcing players into game play they may not want.

Last I heard The Corp was dissolved, all but a few members have left EVE and moved on.

When I left, I posted my reason to CCP and said I would gladly return if they would just fix the WCS's back to the way they were...giving me a fighting chance not to HAVE to fight in an unarmed miner.

To my knowledge this still hasn't happened. Shame, really....had some good times O.o

Just to say this person is just Trolling if you read the posting history this player hasn't played eve for about a year now and just comes here occasionally to make up a troll topic.

So its not really worth explaining things to High5 as she is just trying to troll.

I will just quickly point out that Warp core Stabalisers are there to enable your ship to warp out even if your being warped jammed. In other words you use them to travel. So why would you fit guns and stuff if you just want to travel?

I find what the OP is saying is quite true, I only started out a few days ago, started to enjoy it until i lost my first ship, was pretty pissed off about that, then lost my second, was even more annoyed, then lost my third and this was all in about 2 days, all 3 via missions that are stupidly hard for my lvl and why the hell would it ever give me such a mission i have no idea. Very odd system there, but hey its the game i suppose.

Today came and well i was mining a bit, my mate was mining in a different asteroid belt and some guy desided to take his containers full of ore that he was just transfering to a corp member, so I desided to get my kestrel out and fly over, and my mate did the same in a similar ship. My mate really pissed off that some noob had taken his ore just to gank him, then we came and attacked him, it worked out he had a really expencive assualt ship and stopped him from warping, my mate eventually warped as we knew we stood no chance, i did the same. Very annoyed so we said wat happened to our corp and one of them said he'd check it out and take him out he said he did, so I thought I'd check it out, as soon as i went back into the area that guy unleashed everything he had at me, stopped me warping and blew my ship up in about 6 shots. This, I don't feel fun at all, yes i insured it but the fact I just came into the belt, didn't attack him and he just flew me up without me even attacking him is a bit...gay. I know before all the fanboi's have a go at me, and say its the game live with it blah blah blah, to be honest I think its not fun its just stupid how you just lose everything, even tho we were in a 0.8 security area, that meant nothing and that noob got away with stealing the ore and blowing my ship, all for wat? nothing, seriously wat is the mentallity of these people?

The game is tooo slow for my liking, I'm not a WoW carebear or anything like that, I just like some action, and missions that are in some sort of order that I know if I take it I won't lose my ship no matter what I would of done. This game is a great sleeping pill, if you have trouble sleeping this game is for you :D

Hyperion, please indulge me in this mental experiment because your statement inspired me to look at it more deeply.

    Argument:

Premise - Warp core Stabalisers are there to enable your ship to warp out even if your being warped jammed

Conclusion - Why would you fit guns and stuff if you just want to travel?

Deductive Argument - The premise supports the conclusion soundly.

Deductive Fallacy - It has a false conclusion.

On one level this is confusing cause and effect, because the cause is not necessarily that someone is jamming them. It's that a player has the capability to aggress them in whatever fashion with the intent to use their disruptor.

Where A may be the cause of B. But C is the cause of A and B. Where A = Warpcore Disruptor Use, B = Warpcore Stabilizer Use, and C = Player with the intent of using of the Warpcore Disruptor.

So the statement, or I believe the conclusion:

Why would you fit guns and stuff if you just want to travel?

And this is a false, if a player after being in a situation such as that wishes merely to travel then he does so whether instantly transported to whatever station via his clone, or in his pod. A player doesn't merely want to travel, they wish to preserve the value of their possessions at that time.

So to better state it let us say:

Why would you fit guns and stuff if you just want to survive?

    The answer is self-evident.

    Is this accurate?

But your right...  the game does cater to griefers, and there's not really an anti pirate component for the community to rally around.

    its a shame

I wish CCP had a good bounty system that works or a game mechanic that helps the community to poilce pirates or griefers.

I agree with Poopystuff(nice name.... :P) I don't know why a game so complex doesn't have a system to help prevent or hinder griefers, instead it encorages it.

well this is exactly why I quitted EVE it was nice in the beginning but after being ganked by a large group all the time, suicided on by people in high sec to loot our stuff with an alt... this is as shitty as a game can be if you want to fight against the odds please go ahead and play it. :)

Friendly reminder you're not safe anywhere except from on the station for those who is starting out. Don't let the high sec number fool you as it did with so many others. It used to be safe but people have found weaknesses in the game to exploit .

PvP sucks mostly because the guys on th other side had tons of more people to join in the fight so the battles were a drag we always fought 10-20 vs 20-40 the enemy had higher activity and thus could have a larger fleet at the disposal.

Having several tech 2 bpo made our corp/alliance go financial well so there was no problem replacing lost stuff but having no breathing space suffocate the game play in the end.

We tried to exit the alliance to get some peace but our corp gave up after being decleared war upon for dozen of times without any good reason except to harrass our players... most deserted to WoW and EQ2 as far of our original 40 corp people only 3 still plays.

    sbanting,

The player who did that to your friend has received what he deserved, not withstanding that everyone who witnessed the event and your corpmates know of him, then it would only serve to gain him more enemies. Also, the fact he wasted his time doing that to someone of notably lesser experience works against him. What did he gain from it? Some ore, that from the description of it is relatively invaluable, or maybe the pleasure of attacking someone weaker than himself. The latter is a vice, and the act will do nothing for him when he combats a peer of equal caliber.

Now let's take a look at what you and friend has gained. You engaged in gang warfare, and managed to survive a battle against someone stronger than yourself. In the end, you've lost some isk. Isk can always be made back, but good experience is hard to find and will be useful for you and your friend in the future.

Looks to me mate, you've come out on top.

Much of what I said I learned from Emerson's essay on Compensation. You can find it here, and take from it what is right for you. An audio version is here if that more to your taste. Hang in there.

I play in the Corporation "Jericho Fraction", and we kill pirates all the time. On a daily basis actually. Eve is completely open ended. The way to stop pirates is to kill them... plain and simple.
