are going to pick an oddball race/class combination, knowing it isn't the best, simply for role-playing or fun-to-play reasons?

Personally I've been seriously considering going Ratonga Fighter -> Berserker. :)

Fear me as I unleash my Zerker Frenzy upon your Kneecaps!

But I was wondering if anyone else had thoughts along those same lines.

It seems like a strange class/race combo but with the new system its not bad at all.

    Ogre/Monk

They shouldn't be able to do Flying Kick it's just not right that would hurt like hellimage

high elf necro? halfling necro? maybe a gnome monk? dont know new eq2 names of classes by heart.. but I know they have a monk type and a necro type...  the skeles might be race specific.. so maybe halfling skeletons would have giant feet? and a midget with a afro and big furry feet in a black robe would just be funs :O

Really I havent quite decided. For roleplaying purposes I might well go with a traditional role - woodelf scout for example - but depending on what character creation is like, I might go for something a little more unusual :)

Ratonga beserker sure will be funny to watch! You can just imagine a huge troll dying instantly to a monster, but this little rat jumping around and kicking the crap out of the enemy, in revenge for killing his healer friend :P

I always start first day with 5-6 characters.. directly. Some normal, if the class look funny, one "flavour of the hype" and some complete poofsters. Then I go throught he first levels with all of them to get the feel for the game and the characters. the one that make me smile when I play the most wins.

Yes, normally its one of the poofsters.

Ya but with the Tree system you will need to play those characters for awhile till u can get the real feels for them. Since the begining lvls will seem the same with about anybody.

  • RJCoxRJCox Member Posts: 2,686

Yeah I think you can play all the way to level 6 as a "Commoner" where you can dabble in all 4 Archetypes. Or you can pick your Archetype at any point between 2 and 6 or so. Once you have your Archetype you don't pick your Class till 10, so kinda negates any real benefit from dabbling in a bunch of different characters like that, takes quite a while to get to the actual Classes.

Gonna have to do a little research and get an idea of what you wanna be ahead of time.

I think games are all about the roleplayign aspect more than they are about achievment. Plus. it is always good to be unique. I, personally, like playing humans, so that can go in any direction.

Yes, MMOs have a huge element of achieving and accomplishing things in them. That's part of what makes them what they are. To me, though, the fun is in being someone you want to be. It doesn't matter if your stats are'nt the best, or if you don't fit the mold. What matters is that you are playing a character (roleplaying too) that you enjoy playing. Everyone like different things.

That brings me to my next point. Being unique is what makes a game good, and it is the same in what makes a character good. Everyone could be the same, they could rush through everything to hit the level cap, and all be a bunch of Ogre Warriors. That's fine if that is what you enjoy, but to me the joy comes from roleplaying and being different from everyone else. There is nothing like having fun in a way that no one else would even think of, then having someone compliment your creativity. It doesn't happen much with me, because of the way I play, but I always take the time to salute individuality when I see it.

I always play a human, because that is who I can relate to most. I am sort of weird that way. I enjoy playing with other races, but to really be able to roleplay my character well, I need to play a human type (Erudite, etc. is fine as long as I can relate well enough). It isn't that I want to be dull, it is just easier for me to roleplay. I wasn't always like this, but after I realized the joy of roleplaying I started to pick it up. Humans can be any class, to an extent, and it still be feasible and common. What I enjoy seeing is, like you all have mention, Gnome beserkers, Ogre monks, all of that. It creates an element of realism. Why realism? Well, in life there are all types of people. There are many independant people out there that don't fit any stereo type. They aren't common, as what we are discussing isn't common in-game, but they are part of what makes humanity what it is.

As a final thought, be what you want to be. I think that is the first step to really having a good time playing an MMO. Whether you roleplay, or whether you grind, doing what you enjoy doing is essential. If you want to reach high plateaus of achievement, that is still entirely possible. Remember, it is a game, have fun!

I have been planning on going Dark Elf Bruiser for some time now, I've always like EQ dark elves, and Bruisers just sound like a very cool class, so putting the two together seems ideal for me.  I have some fun, basic ideas for personality and background, the generall feel I'll be going for and all that.  It should be entertaining. image

I hope they have some cool-lookin' animations for the Bruiser combat moves,  they sound great from the general description and theme of a hard-hitting, brutal combat style.  I think that's perfect for a ruthless dark elf with a lot of frustrations to work out, heh.

I'm glad they decided to go "All Races/All Classes", it really opens up some fun possibilities.

Gnome SK for the win. Nothing funnier than a psychotic Gnome that thinks he's an evil ogre. Esp. on Sullon Zek.

When i played EQ back in the late 90s for a couple years my main was Quantis Darklight, a lvl 60 erudite paladin on bristlebane. for me, playing weird race/class combos is half the fun.

In EQ2 i'm leaning toward either a ogre or erudite dirge.image

    EQ: Quantis Erudite 60pal-Bristlebane
    DAoC: Vrix Kobold 50skald-Percival
    L2: Jorrad DE 25 Palus Knight-Kain
    CoH: Funeral 23drk/drk Def-Infinity
    AC2: Thex 40 Lug Sage-Thistledown(playing)
    FFXI: Wrython Elv 55brd/nin-Carbuncle
    SWG: Astaroth Twi CH/Pistol
RYL: Kazeth 15 Attk - Beta Testing
Other: AC1, AO, SB, EVE, RoE, PS, FL..

There are so many choices... I have not really decided yet, but probably something priestly and dark and those are for my personal roleplaying reasons. Hehe. But, yeah, nothing is absolutely definite yet. -squeals- I cannot wait!

Was thinking Iksar Paly myself. Just seems like a fun RPing combo. To take a race thats soul purpose is to hate everyone, then turn it around into a civil servent almost :P

Barbarian Troubadour, most likely.  I like fighting, but having tanked in MMORPG's for year, it's time to have a little spell casting on the side.

Ogre Brigand.  Massive strength for backstabbing :P.  And nothing like an ogre sneaking around lol.  Prolly just for fun.  I'll prolly play an Ogre SK though.

My main toon will be "traditional" but I will probably have an alt that is unusual.  I'm thinking Troll Paladin right now.

  • BuddrowBuddrow Member Posts: 28
Really it depends on what race attracts me graphically. Then I think about what class I want to be. I would like to be unique, but will avoid a complete gimp.

  • JcosbyJcosby Member Posts: 3

I probably will play my Favorite Class with my Favorite Race.. Gnome - Monk, but playing a Monk is scarey after getting nerf'd so hard in EQ1.  I'm just hopnig that EQ2 is different enough that they won't make the same mistakes as they did with Monks in EQ1

After he gets some good levels and I understand the game more, I'll make a cross over Evil Race / Good Class or vice versa..

Ogre Priest or Paladin, Iskar Paladin, or something along those lines..

    Out

Could be a lot of fun roleplaying an Ogre Monk, or Troll Bard.  Or perhaps I could make a tiny fearless, with a hero's ego gnome warrior-type.  Sure is hard trying to find ways to pass the time until release.  image
