A special early Beta of A Tale in the Desert II will begin on
Tuesday, August 10 at 12:00 Noon EST (GMT-0500). This beta will be
open to all with an open (paid) account on ATITD, and also to
FilePlanet subscribers. ATITD players can retrieve a key using their
avatar's Utility menu, and FilePlanet subscribers should receive
their keys by email starting at noon.

A Tale in the Desert II's open beta will begin on Friday, August
13 at 12:00 Noon EST (GMT-0500). Although no key is required to get
into the open beta, if you do have one from FilePlanet (even a free
one), there's a cool little bonus to pick up in the game. Did anyone
see a man dressed in a funny green hat?

Man, when is the actual open beta going to start. I really liked the game last time I tried it, though being a pvper I decided to play ww2o instead. But man that man (or team) that made the game is/are a genius(es), surely something different and refresing.

My opinion, this game really has no sense of achievement because there is really no overall direct competition.

But i'm telling you, if they put this trade system in a normal style MMRPG.....AWESOME

I mean the utter extensiveness is mind blowing.

But it just sort of gets tedious after awhile and the realization that your really not accomplishing anything sort of lowers your morale to the point of quitting.

I've played the game ounce or twice the first that is. really there is a direct competition. You have to notice it first! Combat there is none! Well not necessarily excuse grammer. But its more of a..." I have more bricks and store then you!" The type of competition i think in this game would be more of if i say it right ecominmical baattle as in ecomony. That is all

SWG...  The effort that it takes to build the guild building (and other building) is enormous.  There are so many things awesome in SWG that some of the normal players would not even experience.  To bad it miss some thing I want in a mmorpg, so I left.

I partially agree with you here. The part I agree with is the second and third parts. I disagree with the first part because of the second and third parts. It seems really complicated and exciting, which is a good thing. The idea of cross breeding is cool. It seems good, but then you get started, and soon realise that the crafting is just compulsive click fest. You run round, collect resources. Click click click. You then make these into basic components, such as wood into planks. Click click click. It draws you in for a while, but then you realise that all of it is actually going nowhere. So you stop.

I was actually suprised at how much ATitD 1 and 2 are the same. They didnt even redo the interface! I downloaded 2 earlier today, and for short while I thought I had accidentally fired up ATitD 1 by accident! *sigh*

Ya. The clickfest does get annoying. But I'm not exactly sure how your going to make any trade system that isnt a click fest.

And ya, the whole realization that it isnt going nowhere would not be that way in a regular style, more extensive MMRPG. The building, and farming, etc would be less tedious. Example.

Beginning out, growing the basics would be tedious, but soon you'd be able to make enough money to hire helpers, which would not be as efficient, but wouldnt cause you to get bored to tears and would accomplish things. Soon all you have to do is just make it almost like a strategy game, hire workers, cut down wood, do so and so with wood, etc.

Of course to do all of this would cause the most dedicated player, but when you accomplish it, you'd be like a rich old plantation owner. With many workers and enough resources to fund a small army.

Which then you could even grow it more and create a guild, conquer lands. Build cities with that stone, wood, etc. Open trade routes that are created by people breeding camels, feeding them with grain which you grew from seeds, and giving them water which you have transported inland by irrigation or imported from a river or whatnot.

Which then transporting swords, which you made the hilts from wood, sometimes better quality wood, which you got from a lumbermill, which buys their wood from woodsmen/outdoorsmen that may as well hunt.

    And the list goes on.

Its a game which its main thesis is freedom, which means be a murderer, or whatnot. PvP anywhere. Conquer lands. Etc.

But the game is based upon the trade system, which can be automated, but would require lots of money. Which can be from killing monsters, using their hides, make armor/clothes and selling it, etc. Which you'd first need a weapon, which no one can start with, but would use from trading which you could start with some seeds and a plow, and then earn.

You get the idea. The reason why the trade system in A teal in the dessert feels so pointless is because that is all you do. There is no fighting. No adventure. No community of creating a fence and having guards to fend off wild animals/monsters. No fending off from vagabond players that would come steal your goods in your unlocked house and murder you while their at it.

A tale in the dessert has got the trade system down. But now you need a realistic fighting system thats so innovative and interactive. None of this turn based BS of hit attack, fire/slash, wait two seconds, and it does it again.
