This is just my opinion, but I think EQ pre-Luclin was the best. After that expansion, the emphasis has been the pocket book of their fans where as before it was still on making a good game with role-playing a heavy factor. AC1 was also a good game but I haven't touched that in a long time. CoH is a good game, but gets real repetative real quick. You may just want to hold out for either one of the big dogs due out within the next couple of months; EQ2 or WoW. Somehow I think that these games wont fail to please...unless of course their servers crash for weeks after launching due to the size of the player base awaiting their release.

Asheron's Call 1. I loved that game, and it's a shame I ever left. It is a brilliant game, and was amazing back whilst I was playing it.

Early Everquest was great, but I think I'd have to say that Star Wars Galaxies is my favorite mmorpg right now.  I played since the beginning and the game has come a long way and is only getting better.

Dark Age of Camelot is also one of my favorites.  I still have an active account and I am waiting for Catacombs of come out.  It is a fun game.

I currently play City of Heroes and I like it a lot.  It does get somewhat repetitive, mission after mission, but I think Cryptic will address the problem and introduce new gameplay alternatives soon.

I played Final Fantasy XI for about 3 months.  Although I quit the game, I really did enjoy it while I played.  It was as addicting as Everquest was and similar in many other ways to EQ.  The only downside was that it required so much more time and dedication than other mmorgs, and you had to get into groups to really go anywwhere.  Great graphics and fun gameplay, though.

I recently tried the Asherons Call 2 trial.  It was ok.  The community is very small, however.  The biggest reason why I did not subscribe after the trial is the lag.  There are times when the game would just stop for a good 15-30 seconds.  I died a few times during these lag periods.

Lineage II is a game that requires a different taste.  If you like PvP and grinding, grinding, and more grinding with little reward for it, then L2 is an option.

Horizons is great for players who like to craft.  The crafting system is great, but I fear that there is a shortage of players who will be purchasing goods made by the crafters as the high end gameplay is lacking.  Also, the combat system is not very exciting, and it is relatively easy to level up.  The classes are not too much different from one another in terms of skills and abilities, it seems.  Horizons is a sub-par mmorpg, try only if you are really interested.

I didn't like Anarchy Online, I have nothing good to say about it, so I won't say anything at all.

I tried the Eve Online trial.  I liked it a lot.  It was different.  I would consider subscribing, but it lacks just one thing I really want in the game, character models that you can control and move around in space station or on a planets surface.

I can't wait for World of Warcraft, Dark and Light, and especially Everquest II.

City of Heroes is the most fun one I've played yet, and I've tried a ton of 'em.  I'd say it's the best one currently available, but there are some interesting ones in the works, it'll be tough to choose between them as more come out.  I would like to find a good swords-and-sorcery style MMO at some point, currently looking to EQII and possibly D&D Online to scratch that particular itch.

A note: Horizons is currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and is expected to go to chapter 7 (complete liquidation) withen a month.

I wouldn't advise anyone to play that game unless they want to see what NOT to do in a MMORPG.

So far I have only tried SWG. I think it is awsome.. but from what I hear a lot of ppl are saying there are much better things out there. I am stuck between deiciding to quit on this game and try everquest or just wait for the new everquest. Would it be easy to jump into as a newbie to EQ or would I need to have some sort of past experience with the first one? If anyone can help me out please just send me a message.image

The first 2 years of AC1.  Hand downs the best mmorpg of all time.  Can't beat monthly pathes adding tons of contents.

    Lineage 2

I reserve the answers to all other questions for the next round of twicked feat.

The politics that are built into this game isn't your typical 12 years old cartoon joke whether you like it or not.

Expect a lot of frictions between differing "culture" of play.

This game could have been even cooler if they had some sort of organized Country vs Country events to heat up what's already reached boiling point. Some sort of separate pan nations hardcore PvP servers ....

Coz all I see is people is gathering by their national origin rather than going by say some fictitious cyber identity.

The worse case is German (_DEs) and Chinese (_CNs) and maybe some polish (_PLs)

with what iv read , the  game lacks char variability . no diferences between players of the same class,no individuality , and iv always thought that sucked in a rpg

The best MMORPG ever was UO. And yea, Lineage 2 is total crap- a big grind, everyone looks the same, no promised content, lots of botter/farmers, and bad GM support that cant speak english. In other words, it makes shadowbane look good.

must say anarchy online. That was my first mmorpg. That feeling will never come back. To bad.

One particular moment I remember was when my team was running to the beach for some hunting (this was long before team missions) and  we got attacked by a Bull. Everybody run out in the sea

to escape that Bull. So immersed! well, I can say that playing "Coh" isnt anything like that!

Ive played 14 MMORPGs, EQ is by far the best.  Nothing is even close.

Ultima Online blows away the competition with a wide range of Freeshards that beat the original OSI-server.  I'm still waiting for Dark and Light htough, which I believe will become the new pinnacle of online gaming.

actually it may be like that for the moment, but the upcoming C2 patch is changing alot of that... with new "tattoo'ing and dying" you can change you're stats around and differ yourself from other characters your class in whichever stats you want...

also a new equipment system add's special bonuses to gear much like Diablo/UO...

thats on top of the new character customization options (faces/hair and such)...

Too little, Too late. There is no reason why it was pushed out the door without any content.  Its still a big grind- and a few new equipment and changing a few faces, doesnt make it a good game.

EQ was and still is my favorite by far.  For mmorpgs yet to be released I am looking forward to WoW, EQ2 (if they hire an art team and make some decent character and equipment art), Vanguard, and Tabula Rasa.
