Well, Marvel Universe Online is pretty much dead but could this rumor be true?

I've seen several similar articles about the proposed re-using of the now deceased Marvel Universe Online code in a new superhero mmo "Champions Online" from Cryptic.

Couple that to the fact that HERO Games has made comments about a REALLY BIG ANNOUNCEMENT - on Monday (HERO Games makes the p&p RPG "Champions") and there may be something in it...

Yeah, the cell shaded characters couple with particle effects on aura's, and energy blasts/weapons seems a little strange at first, but does make it seem a lot more like a comic book than CoX does.

They seem to be abandoning the CoX pattern of classes (ie Controller/Tank etc) in favor of a basic points creation system - more in line with the Champions p&p RPG - which is nice, being able to make a tank that  can fire energy blasts or use a really big gun...hehe

The costume graphics themselves seem to be a lot more complex than the CoX costume pieces - as long as they keep a similar system for character costume creation to that used in CoX - most players will be very happy.

Also mentioned was the ability to set movement styles - so for instance an animal looking character can walk around on all fours - presumably knuckle walking like a gorilla, I would imagine.

The other new addition is the ability to actually color your aura's and energy blasts instead of being forced to have a generic blue energy blast or red flames.

All in all if they keep the good stuff from CoX and add new stuff I think that Champions may be a very worthy successor to the success they had with CoX.
