Game Updates taking forever to download

I decided to give Lord of The Rings Online another shot and installed the game a couple hours ago. I've been downloading the updates for the game for almost an hour now at a speed of 170 kb/sec. I am still at 0%/100% downloaded. At this rate, I won't be playing for 400 hours ( currently at 2976 / 11107 downloaded untill 1%).

I think this is a bit rediculous. Should have waited a few days to resub (until I finished updating the game) so that I don't miss out on paid time.

Anyhow, I am just bored and decided to make a complaining thread. I guess I can play my newly bought Lost Odyssey on XBox 360.

I think you can download the updates via bittorrent on the main website.  That will probably go MUCH faster.

Try looking here http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=119222 for the newest book.

Books 10-11 can be downloaded from http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=96698. You should be able to get the others as well..but I'm not sure  where exactly.   I found these by looking through the announcements forum on www.lotro.com

    Hope this helps!

Sorry mate, can't help there... I'm in the EU with Codemasters, my game updates always whistle down at max bandwith (~700KB/s on a 6 mbit line)...

I thought for sure that it was my internet, since I have a wireless DSL connection  which = connectivity that goes in and out and has high latency (1,000 ms +) a lot of times.

I did a speed check and I am currently getting a download speed of 1.3 MB and upload speed of 250 KB. So it isn't my internet. Does Turbine limit the amount you can download per second or something?

I know nothing about how to use bittorrent and etc., so I am probably better off letting the game update itself.

I followed the address that one of you put in your reply. I read up on it and it said I need to have my the game up-to-date (book 11) to download book 12 the faster way. I know I don't have book 11, because I am reinstalling the game right now. I don't know which books I should be searching for, since I have no idea which books are included with the retail version and which were offered as updates. This information will probably help me find the book updates I need.

    Thanks

Here's the link for books 10-11:

    http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=96698

You will need to download the bittorrent client, but that shouldn't take any time at all.  I'm not sure which books are included in the retail version though.  I think you'll need 10-12.  You may need book nine too though.   I would try adding 10-11 and then installing 12 and see what happens.

It says, "this patch will only work for those whose clients are current as of today (October 19)."

I bought the game well before October 19, therefore the game is not even current as of that date. I'm afraid I have no choice but to wait several days to get it to install. I've been searching for a customer support number for Turbine, but haven't found any. Why is it that Mythic has a customer support number, but Turbine doesn't? I don't expect you to actually answer that, but I find it bad customer service to not have a number for people to reach you on. Forum customer support just feels entirely too slow to be effective. Customers want immediate solutions to problems. They do not want to wait for a CSR to replay with a solution on the forums. Who knows how long that could take.

Ah okay, maybe this will work then.  You can download the full game client from

    http://turbine.fuzeqna.com/lotro.support/consumer/kbdetail.asp?kbid=1554

Well, the client up to book 11 that is:)  Might download faster than the updates through the client.

Go to fileplanet or a do a google search or something for the book patches. The retail box is only up to 8 so all you will need are the ones from 9-12. Lots of data but downloading the patches should be quicker and it usually is. Also don't pay attention to the percantage too much. I think they fixed it but sometimes it doesn't show the correct percantage at times.

Does this mean that I need to uninstall what I've already downloaded and reinstall the game digitally?

I suppose.  Maybe you could rename/copy the folder that you already have.  That way you won't lose any progress that you have already just in case.  Have you started the game download yet?  Might want to check and see how long that is going to take before taking any actions on the files you have already.

I sent the LOTRO file that was in Program Files to My Documents, then I deleted the LOTRO folder from Program Files. I then started the digital download and I am getting the same low speed download that I was getting originally. Should I just go back to the original download or continue with this new download?

I went on with my old download and canceled my new one. I see what someone was saying about the % being messed up. I am showing 400% right now, lol. Anyhow, I probably have a couple more hours until it is done.

Score:)  I'm glad to hear that.  Was beginning to worry for a minute there.  I have had several real life friends start playing recently, and none of them ever mentioned having that much trouble downloading.

I don't know what server you are starting on, but if you start on Meneldor send me a tell if you have any questions/need any help.  My chars are Heatheryn, Sekia, Aiwe, Eeli and Khalion.

Hope it finishes soon for ya ^^

You something like the millionth person I've seen state that they were 'bored" over the years.

I was in another game last night and some writes in shout "i'm bored".

I said this in another thread and I'll say it again here; when I was young and I told my mother I was bored, she would tell me that I either find something to do or she would find me something to do.

And that ended my days of boredom. And I was about 6 or 7.

    Bored! Imagine that.

Well, before I turn this into a rant about today's youth I will have to say that I recently had to reinstall the game as I changed my computer. It just takes a while and there is nothing to do about it. I think it's just an issue that people will have to deal with in onine games as content updates tend to be sizable.

Until we get an expansion pack that comes with all the book updates to that point on the retail CD (or DVD), it's going to take a really long time to download and install the patches. I'm not sure there's a way to get around it either, though I average about 400kb/s when I patch, so it's not too bad. So, yeah, unfortunately you have four book updates to get through that aren't on the retail disc.
