You are going to want to start up on a classic server.

No doubt about that, gonna be the most populated. Also ToA(Trials of Atlantis) servers are no good in my opinion.  The classic servers basically just take out that whole expansion from the game. Which is AWESOME.

If you start up on Lamorak and the Albion Realm. You can look me up. Have a ton of characters..Afghanistan..Afghan..Zepplani..Surfit..

Have a good friend who can help you out as well. Name is Aboo and Aboos.

Race, is really gonna depend on what kind of class you want to play.

If you are lookin for something that can solo well. Here are a few good options.

Scout: Stealth class, possibly the best damage in the game right now. Uses bow.

    Friar: Healer/Monk Hybrid.

Necromancer: Pretty self explanitory if you have ever played a MMO before.

Those are albion classes which is the realm I play on most.

Anyways, I'm at work so I have to scoot..If ya have any other questions..Just shoot em out on here or like I said send a tell in game.

I hear this alot, so I think it is time this classic / ToA garbage gets cleared up.

First off with the new clustering of Devon, The Normal Devon cluster is just as large as the Classic cluster and just as active.

Second, the classic servers were created for those who found it to hard to get artifacts, or to hard to compete in rvr with players with artifacts, or to hard to find time to raid for the artifacts, pretty much whatever crybaby excuse people had back in the day for not liking ToA.... Yeah all that got fixed and resolved since then.

You no longer have to raid for any artifact, you no longer have to spend countless hours farming scrolls, you no longer have to even do anything in ToA to enjoy the benefits of any items inside ToA.

All you have to do is RvR and PvP, which is exactly what you are doing on the classic servers. With that being said brings us to the third.

Third if you want to cut out a HUGE portion of the game and not get to see all the cool items and abilities artifacts and master levels bring to the game, Not to mention alot of added gameplay for those who like to both pve and pvp, then by all means play on classic. If you want to experience everything the game has to offer and play with the truly hardcore players of DAoC and skillup against some of the best in the game, you need to play one of the Normal clusters.

All the carebears and ToA whiners landed in Classic, that is why it is so large. All the DAoC greats and loyalist remained on the normal servers and play the game as intended.

Population doesn't make a server cluster better.

Sorry I went off on the rant, but I am so tired of people coming in here and want to get started fresh on DAoC and immediately get told CLASSIC!!!

Classic should be a last option for any player. They should play the game as it was built with ALL its options open, and if they find they do not like all the games content THEN reroll to classic.

I do not know any people who have started on the normal servers recently not doing just fine if not better than anyone playing classic.

    You need to chill out.

Population doesn't make a server cluster better..

but for someone who is just starting off it's going to make it a hell of a lot easier to get into the game.

I've tried starting on regular clusters recently and have gotten no help. I have been playing this game since day one, so thank god I know where to go and what to do.

and considering ToA is what caused DAoC to lose most of its population..I would say yeah. It is garbage.

I am no carebear. If there was a classic PvP server that didn't have artifacts to screw up PvP. I would be playing there instead of classic.

The plain fact is ToA screwed RvR.

Next time try to state your opinion without being so hostile. It will come across a hell of a lot better.

ToA did screw up dark age in it original state.

However all of ToA's faults have been fixed. There is nothing more to fear on Normal Clusters. VERY EASY to do everything in the game.

To reply to your rolling a normal server and  not getting help. You have to kinda research that a little.

There are several guilds that bend over backwards to help players get setup. The guild I am in on devon does and almost every guild in the alliance does.

We even hold PL sessions every night almost to ensure our guild members are the level they want to be to have fun, wether it is thid, molvik, or level 50 RvR.

I wasn't being hostile also, and it wasn't directed directly at you, there have been MANY post with players returning and coming in new and have ALL been told to join classic servers.

For as much as you think Normal servers are garbage there are just as many playing who think the Classic is garbage, which is evident when the 2 normal clusters combined players out number classic population by 2/3.

Out of the 3000 usually online at any given time. 1200 to classic rest are on normal.

I was trying to help this guy by saying do not go classic first thing. There is alot of game he will miss by going there first.

Also you should head to normal server yourself if you think the normal servers are the same as they were when ToA was released as you would be sorely mistaken.

New guys do not need bad information, or biased opinions, just because you do not like ToA doesn't mean the game is bad. You steered him in a direction to think that normal servers are evil or something, instead of giving the guy the diff. between the 2 server types and let him make up his own mind.

    That is what upsets me.

The "join classic, normal server are garbage" post and that is all you say.

Fair enough. I can agree with your last post.

I have heard that there have been alot of changes, however..I still hear that artifacts screw RvR.

Which is the main reason that I play the game :)

but, I think he has gotten two opinions now..which is good.

    Cheers!

Classic, go with the Classic server. Most vets are on the classic servers and will help you with any questions you want answered. TOA ruined a lot, and for those saying to come on to a regular server/cluster, lets not kid ourselves here, with all the old longtime vets playing on them servers, they are almost godlike with their artifacts and rlm skills from all the rlm pts they now have.  Lets not forget that for a new player to buy anything on a regular server, its way out of his/her reach. I dont think selling an item for 10plat or more is in reach to a new player now is it?

For a new player, classic is the server for you. On the regular servers, you wont find many lvling up where as i found lots on the classic when i had gone back. Thats why i would rather see a new player go to a classic server over a regular one.

The poster above me just reinforces the carebear policy I was trying to warn you about earlier.

Classic server serves no purpose OP. It is for players who do not wish to compete with the real players of DAoC. It's to hard, stuff is to expensive, the vets are godlike.... These are all excuses. These are all things that really have no basis on the normal servers.

Maybe they used to it is true. When you had to actually get a raid group high enough to get artifacts so you could compete in rvr. Like I said, this is all false information.

Here is an example. I will use myself because I did ALL this in 5 days. So it is a good example of those players who are willing to be social and work a little at the same time have NO probs in normal clusters.

Started a scout 5 days ago. Leveled the scout to level 24 the first day.

Day 2 spent in thid to get 1L5 for Falcons Eye 2.

Day 3 went from 25-35 in the BG's killing mobs, leveled in SI from 35-39.

Day 4 went from 40-48 in BG's Leir and Cath.

Day 5 went from 49-50 in 2 hours with help of guild mate scout in Labs.

Day 5 Formed stealth group with guild mates in Labs went from 1L5 to 3L0. Trained in FE 3 MoS3.

Day 5 with the bounty points from stealther group that night. I purchased 4 artifacts, Orions belt, Mariashas Sharkskin Gloves, Ring of Dances, and the Fools Bow.

On a side note Day 6 - capped all those arti's at level 10.

and at Day 7 completed Champ level 5 inside labs.

At the end of 5 days I had 7 plat saved up. Guild mates helped me with armor and now I have a great scout to play with and help out the guild.

Wasn't hard, just took time, the know how to get things done, the will power to make something happen.

Every single person I have seen join our cluster who was social, took the initiative to find a good guild, was loyal to that guild, wanted to learn and play the game. All these people are now "gods" as you put it, level 50 with ML 10 CL 10, all the artis they want and having a great time.

Classic is for those who do not want to work at the game. They take the easy way out by cutting out half a games intended content.

Like I said before , all players should try to exp. as intended by playing the normal clusters first, and if they find it isn't for them then roll the classic. I don't see how any player could join normal servers and not make it. Also to counter your "things are way to expensive" comment. If you can't afford anything on normal servers, 1 you aren't attempting to make any money to start with, or 2 your not being social getting to know people who can actually help you out in the game, plenty of players out there help, just ask and you shall receive.

Well arti's make things interesting that is for sure, alot of people use defined templates now to compete. and arti's usually always factor into those templates, just like my scout template requires 4 arti's to work proper, with various dragon drops. On the same token tho, your getting your arti's now for doing RvR, and the amount of BP you get a night (for me ranges about 3-4k) is more than enough to equip any arti or bp item you need to get your template setup. The dragon drop items are the hardest to get, but on devon they usually run a dragon raid every other night or so and invite pretty much anyone who asked to go to the BG. I'm not saying classic isn't easier to get to the top and get going, specially since in classic all you need is access to a LGM crafter for armor and SC.

However it is just my personal opinion that normal armor thats SC limits the game some when the game has so many cool armors and weapons with abilities that classic just doesn't offer.

It is rewarding to know that your arti template that you made hangs with everyone around you and their arti templates.

Arti's can turn the tide of a fight at times, which is just one more reason it adds to the game, for those who know how to use what they got equipped, fighting in the normal servers can be fun and crazy at the same time.

That's really the one thing I don't like about ToA servers. The fact that Arti's can turn the tide of a fight..

This is just my opinion but ..I don't think an item should be able to that. The players skill in playing their character should be the only thing that can turn the tide of a fight.

I understand what your saying, but for those of us who use them, knowing how and when to use your artifacts factor into your skill as a player.

  • Ramones274Ramones274 Member Posts: 366

I suppose, I'm tempted to level up a character on the regular servers just to try it out, if for nothing at least to be more informed.

If nothing else you should at least try it, I haven't been coming in here trying to force players to join normal servers. Classic has it place for a certain type of player, and I can respect that. I know why players were given the classic servers, it was to cut out ToA and the Arti/ML content, However with the way mythic fixed this problem on normal servers, it isn't really a problem anymore.

Raid encounters got nerfed making it require alot less people to complete, you can do any arti encounter now with 1 group or less, some take only 3 people max. Others you can even solo.

For those who do not wish to do them at all, you can now just buy everything with your bounty points, even your master levels can be purchased.

Adding in this content to the game does make for very powerful players, but they arent gods, and they die just like everyone else. Long as you are good at what you do, they will fall.

  • steusssteuss Member UncommonPosts: 130

Classic servers are crap. Avoid them at all costs.

The new stuff they have put in makes the ToA servers total cake.

Roll an enchanter, necromancer, bonedancer.  (a pet class in each realm). This will allow you to level quickly and solo if needed, while also providing you with a decent group addition.

Hope you like Daoc, it is one of the best games still kicking.

    Welp neonaka..

I can say that I respect you..you have managed to turn a very hard headed and stubborn person and make him want to try the regular servers again!

    Cheers my friend, cheers!

If you need help, and don't mind playing alb, just roll something on devon and I will invite you to our guild, which is Smokin, you can look it up on the herald if you like, we also run one of the largest alliances on devon alb side as well.

I can give you vent info and we can get you leveled up in no time on whatever character you want to play.

Completely up to you, if your interested in alb, just send me a Private message here on MMORPG and I give you all the info you need.

Welp, seems I've found a new obsession with EQ2. Gonna take a break from DAoC for a little while.

When I come back (I always do)

I'll hop on the devon cluster and make an alb I think.

    See ya then!
