i have a feeling EA is hiding alot of its salaries (which are no doubt incredibly high.
i personally think these executives are payed WAYYY too much to run a business that they probly know nothing about. they get paid millions to make business related decisions and the people that keep the company going (the 2125 in Activisions case) wont ever come close to that kind of pay. makes me think back to a story on one of the Banks here in Australia. it was paying the head of the bank 14 million a year and was making a loss of 10 million.
anyway enjoy the statistics

Welcome to American business. Here the phrase "most productive citizens" means "over-paid gibbering idiots."

makes you sick eh
It's all Lies...
The industry won't change in this area until an independent mmorpg title blows away the competition and while doing so attempts to pay all it's employees fairly. Publishers in the gaming industry are simply following the same path as executives in the music and movie industries, not to mention every other corporate entity in existence within the capitalist system.
An honest corporate structure is what is needed but the truth of the matter is it would take a lot of sacrifices on the part of talented individuals for it to prosper and become competitive. I have a structure of fairness built into my business model but I can only hope people will see it for what it is and look to help bring about change.
Who knows though, I'm not an optimist so although I speak of hope I actually don't feel it will ever come to be. The individual may win a battle here or there but I suspect it's only allowed to take place by those in power as to still have people to rule over, because if they really did crush all hope of change and freedoms then it's unlikely many people would bother sticking around to be ruled over.

Paychecks are defined by the market rate.
If you don't offer your staff more than your rivals, you will get the worst staff.
Jealousy won't get you anywhere. These people clearly earn their companies a profit. When they don't they get replaced by someone who does.
The executives at EA don't know how to run a business?
LMAO
EA is the single most successful game publisher on the planet.
If you guys think execs get paid massive salaries for little or no work why are you still turning up to your shitty job every day? Go be the CEO of CocaCola, the chairman of Dell or the CFO of Goldman Sachs...
They get paid huge amounts because the market rate to retain their skill set is that high

If by skill set you mean Contact list.. then yes.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
yes they keep the company running business wise but the company needs a product to sell. i highly doubt any Employees come even close to what those executives are making and they are doing all the hard work.

It is hard work all around. It's extremely taxing keeping up a contact list inside your own company much less keeping one up outside of it. There's also the who responsibility to make the right decisions, and have the people under you making the right decisions.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
America is a free market, the salary you get, is usually what the market will bear. You can make a claim that the multi-million dollar athletes make what is expected if you were to consider the amount of money they brought in to their teams.

Most smart companies pay the big cheeses the most to stop them jumping ship to their rivals. It's cheaper to pay them more than watch them help a competitor.
No annoying animated GIF here!
This is a misconception. Having just finished a MBA, I'm well aware of what executives do. Although not typically technically hard for the most part, an executive job is emotionally and physically draining due to very long hours, leadership and mentorship demands, outside relations and functions, and the simple fact that an executive's job is always on the line.
I do agree that executives are overpaid, but don't underestimate the duties and responsibilities of executives, which are very demanding.
Those amounts aren't have as bad as they can get in the entertainment industry... Owning or commanding a company I agree can be a taxing job..
But what about these one hit wonder pop stars that become millionaiires, porn stars, and those cry baby ass NBA stars who sometimes play worst and with wayy less heart than an unpaid college player...
This thread stinks of communism...
and I'll have NO part of it!!!
market value is right. got to love it, because the other way is miserable.
-I will subtlety invade your psyche-
Being a CEO/COO is tough since you're practically the one that is (leadership) on the helm of the ship (the company). You need to be able to decide what's best for the company and if the company flounder's its your head that's gonna roll. A CEO looks to have high net worth due to their stock options.. if the company they are handling is huge (like any publicly traded company) then their networth is proportional to their stock option value.
