Better Crafting Make a Difference?

I was thinking about this, as something I felt missing in this game.  I was really considering this game to fill in gaps of my other MMO, one was crafting.  Now, the only other crafting I really got involved with was Pre-CU SWG, and the beauty of that was that you could use skill to create better resources, and then those better resources and skill to create better end products.  Loved that.

Do you think POTBS would benefit from a system like this?  Being able to really have a character focused on crafting, with it's own skill chains, to be able to make better ships of the same class, etc?

Personally, I think it would have garnered more interest from me if it had.

Well not sure if youre aware of not, but will state, freetraders at higher levels get access to advanced structures, and there are books in the game that teach how to create more advanced ships, like heavy and mastercraft versions of regular ships. So someone who focuses on the economy can produce more, and better, than your regular joe that uses regular structures and recipe books. Id imagine at some point FLS will add more books that are either FT only or rare, to reward those that focus on that aspect of the game.

Potbs has the best crafting system I've seen in a long time and as previously stated Freetraders can make things others can't.

Having the different materials have different stats was one of the best things about SWG and could be a good feature in Potbs since it would give nations reason to capture the ports that had the best versions of the materials.

If you haven't given Potbs a go, you should.  Right now the interface is a bit clunky and the Society (guild) functions need some work, but it's a fun game and as I said the crafting is really good, although I'd suggest you get into a Society if you want to craft because its impossible for a single character to do everything.  The cooperation and RvR aspects of this game are what make it shine in the same way old SWG did, that is, you're not forced to group for missions, but you're forced to interact with other players.

It would be nice if the game had some kind of graphical upgrade to the whole crafting business instead of everyone either standing on the docks or next to the auctioneer. Something similar to SWG where you stand at a station in a particular building suited to what your crafting would be a start.

I know they intend to add cabins as a kind of player housing but they really need to look in to the area of a much more explorable land system with housing and such. It just all feels so small and confined in the game at present. Sure its a game about pirates and sea combat but it wont survive on that alone, its needs a much expanded free roaming land based system to go with it.

    I'll enter dream mode now....

What would be nice is that when you arrive at a port the landing area the town is the same but it expands into a much larger non instanced zone suitable for a player town to be made as well as explorable regions with some missions. This player town would not only have player made house but with static structures for Shipyards, distilleries, farms etc. 1 structure per type though as you dont want 50 shipyards in one town.

This way characters can set up residence at any port that are taxed according to whatever faction holds it, so if your residence is in an enemy port its a lot higher as they dont want you there.

This would give a tons more dynamics and explorable area for people as each port would really be different once you got past the initial dock zone.
