pvp can be done when ever but it doesnt get heated up until +50

you can hunt raidbosses down from whenever. catacombs from 20+

I didnt start having fun until 40 because thats when you see more people and your worth something to the more powerful clans.  Mind you i was playing a year and a half ago. So yes, probably around 50+ till the action kicks in.

    Ballistic!

Before you start this game you should do a little more research. Read any reviews (new reviews preferred but there is still some truth in the older reveiws), go to the main forums and just do searches for information, perhaps to some fansite forums (though some of them aren't worksafe).

There is very little instancing in game. It is an open pvp game so I can park myself outside the city you are in and kill you every time I leave and laugh and that is part of the game.

Not that this happens a lot anymore but it can happen. Scamminng is allowed in game so be mindful of what you buy or if someone says that if you can throw your weapon on the ground they can enchant it.

The grind still is a hard grind but it is easier to get to the 40+ levels. The money grind can be very hard. you won't see a lot of people until you get to the 20+ town of dion or even better yet, 40+ of Giran.

This is not a game where pickup groups are easy to come by as people tend to stick with clan and alliance mates. There is a good reason for this as you need to be able to trust the people you are with. So, join a good clan or alliance (most likely a clan academy at lower lvls).

To be honest, you won't have a greater affect in pvp until you are in High 60's and even better, 72 (a grade).

Be clear about what you want to play as you will be spending a lot of time advancing that character. Good Luck.

I'm pretty sure it starts getting fun around 55+, thats when you start getting a lot of your new skills and the game just gets way more entertaining. You said 72 (A grade?) well its not when you first get a grade which is 61, so did you mean it was the fact you got a grade? or just that level.

Oops... sorry. It's been a long time since I first hit A grade (and S grade for that matter) so I have that wrong.

I should have said when you first hit A grade which is as you point out 61. That's when you can at least make more of a difference in pvp/end game raiding, etc.

However, with people pushing the S grade envelope so that they can get lvl 80 and take advantage of lvl 80 weapons and armor, it won't be long before we will be saying "you have to be 71".

    Thanks for pointing that out

Hah yeah but now they have like 85 armor and weapons so maybe it will be crazier. I havn't seen any yet though.

This is a HUGE grinder from all the research I have done.Thats why I have not persued it.

party's are hard to get when your under 6x, so they's gonna be a lot off soloing, and some classes aren't party material at all so no one want's em...

raid's can start when your 20 + they's a a few people from 20 to 40 who runs around in 9 man group's and kill raid bosses that are around 20 to 40 in lvl's, its a good way to earn exp, but it's mostly costly in adena's

then for bigger raid's it's pretty much just about what clan you are in to kill lvl 40 to 70 raid bosses, but for the epic ones like Anathras it's pretty much 7x +

pvp can start at any lvl's but its pretty much lvl 6x + on any server before you can get into a clan that has war's or participates in siege's before that your lucky to get 4 fight's before you get that high...

fun depends on what you see as fun, i had a lot off fun in the 2x + lvl's in the old day's cause they was people around thoes lvl then, but they aren't really know.

Also a few classes dont reach they full poitential before they 40+ like summoner's or a gladiator not good with dual's, or blade dancer or swordsinger not really buffer's before they 40+

it depend's on the class you pick and what you consider as fun, some people like the pve, other like the pvp and such...

Most people hate the pve in this game, well other then raids. Its mainly for the pvp for most, but i guess your right about the 20+ not being fun, but i found it to be fun around 40-60 and past that actually.

PvE is the basis for progression, if you hate PvE you need to stop playing MMORPGs and go back to FPS games.

There is something that ppl need to understand about L2 and more importantly what it takes to PvP in L2.

To PvP in L2 takes money !.

A LOT of it, for NO RETURNS. Thats right you get nothing for PvP itself !!!

IF you do it as part of an organised group to capture a castle or a fortress, then you MAY see a return on your INVESTMENT if you have a clan leader who knows how to operate the manor system and understands the economy curve on YOUR particular server. Yes each server is different... This IS the ONLY way you have a chance of getting back the money you invested into soulshots, blessed spiritshots and the plethora of potions, crystals and other paraphenaelia which is consumed as part of PvP.

This is the reason PvP is predominantly an endgame activity. Its hard enough to make enough adena just to craft/buy your armour and weapons, the remainder gets used up on consumables needed to level... Consequently it takes months/years to accumulate sufficient EXTRA money to be able to "throw away" on a random PvP, regardless of the reason for it. This is why killing farmers is a concious choice and not a flippant PK spree. You kill them because you NEED the room or area for drops/spoils or just darn good XP.  Also consider the fact that it is impossible to legitimately sustain PvP in L2 without cheating as you need to go back to PvE in order to replenish your resources.  NOTE the caveat here is LEGITIMATELY.

This is why the ppl who constantly PvP are mainly e-bayers or those  few truly hardcore players who have not only made it to the top (and you will find out who they are once you spend some time on your server), but continue to play insane amounts of hours online, and have set up systems where they can balance their game between PvE and PvP accordingly.

Be under  no illusions, that to PvP seriously around A and S grades is incredibly expensive. To do so with massively overenchanted weapons and armour, with raidboss jewels and overenchanted skills takes astronomical resources, a well organised clan, and is the privilege of a relatively few legitimate players.

To answer the question though, the fun in the game is based on socialisation, that is meeting ppl, hanging out with them and accomplishing things together as a group that perhaps other groups could not accomplish. Its about testing the limits of the game and seeing whether you can legitimately beat the odds..

It has nothing to do with griding or levels as those are merely a means to an end, all they define is the content which you can challenge yourself with.

That is not the only reason why PvP is predominantly an end game activity. Random player killing is coupled with extremely harsch penalties so PvPing outside of clanwars and raiding is not a viable option for most people and to be succesful there you will have to have both the level and the equipment. It doesnt matter how good your equipment is if you are only level 50, any level 70+ will kill you in a heartbeat.

So I would say that the PvP in this game is both equipment money based AND level based and in my opinion quite little is based on actual player skills. Hence why I dont think the PvP in this game is all that good. Equipment+levels is what you need.

LOL I like pve in most MMORPG's it's just the straight grinding without any quests that are worth doing that gets most to not enjoy it. I mean don't get me wrong, i enjoyed it on lineage on my first character up to 55+ but after that you notice how annoying it is, and the fact that the korean lineage has higher XP rates then ours does , If we had those i would be playing lineage way more then i currently do. Also you are right, PVP takes a ton of money in this game, well anything really does since the markets got inflated like no other. For top C grade its 15mil, thats so much money and theres no possible way to ever earn that by C grade so you have to use the shadow weapons which arent helpful past 44+ so ehhhhhh....

I still love lineage it just is really really hard now a days to get anything with all the bots and adena sellers making the market inflate.

If you solo or dualbox then your premise will hold true. If you join a clan then no, you can start raiding from lv 15+,as many hands make light work and the low level raidbosses were designed exactly for that. Low level players learning how to work together.

Level is important in PvP to a point. In 1 v 1 PvP the range of variables which come into play is limited to the level of the player and the individual skills learn't by the toon. In this case yes, equipment becomes a definining variable as equipment has a direct effect on individual skills. Its really a no brainer, assuming some parity between the two classes battling it out. but that leads more in to class vs class balancing and the tactics employed by players to mitigate their class weaknesses which leads off topic.

However, As long as you are within a reasonable level range of your opponents and have reasonable equipment for your grade, the group will always prevail.

The "skill" which ppl talk about in L2 PvP, does not so much relate to individual skills,  although you do need a degree of competency when playing your character in 1 v 1 PvP.

The real skill is in group PvP, where you need to not only understand the strengths and weaknesses of your own party classes, but also the enemy party.

It is the successfull synchronisation of your party's strengths which ultimately yields victory in group PvP. This is why everyone uses ventrilo or teamspeak to PvP. You cannot type fast enough to communicate effectively in L2 combat, so the skill comes in communicating and synchronising buffs, heals debuffs as well as targetting effects in a manner which is quicker and more effective than that of your opponents.

it really depends on your class when it's 1 vs 1, some classes dosen't really require anything but pressing 2 to 3 bouttons in pvp, but Hell Knight's are pretty hard to use right.

i think this game is very gear depantet when you get to the lvl 76 + lvl's if group A off the same classes with Epic jewel's aginst equal lvl and same classes group B who dosen't have epic jewel's the group A pretty much win, unleass they really really terrible.

they's a big diffrence in having very good gear, and just good gear in this game
