The new graphic update is very, very, very nice. But I will wait until we get the option to walk around with our characters.

Can't wait for that update!

no offence man but if your waiting to come back for station walking then you probably dont want to bother.... EvE has always been and will continue to be about space... the station walking looks nice but how long do you think that is going to hold your attention if your not into space... station walking at least in the beginning is just a small feature not a new game. if you think you can walk around in stations and thats what you need to pay your fee then have at it.... good luck

Well.. I didn't plan to just walk around in stations.

I was more thinking it will be nice to get out of the ship. Become a man and not some ship.

Also nice for RP and it gives a better feeling.

And where else would you be walking? You gonna walk to the next star system?

This game is about spacefaring. Your ship is your avatar. Walking around will add nothing to the playability of the game. It will just be useless fluff. I'd rather the devs focus on improving the important aspects of gameplay instead of spending time adding fluff.

WoW there are some real Killjoys here today.

He wants it for the Roleplay uses, and he did mention it too but you edited it out.

How does walking around make EvE suddenly so worthwhile? I mean, sure, its a very cool and welcomed upcoming update, but its merely an "addition", rather than a real feature.

EvE is, after all, a game about spaceships.

Well CCP has stated we are looking at "Ambulation" in the summer of 2008. It is really exciting to see an online game evolve like this. But you need to remember that you will need space to earn ISK to be able to sell goods on the station or stations.  They have also discussed planetary terraforming. But avatars are most likely not going to involved in typical past mmorpg elements. So why wait? Earn ISK now and prepare for the day you can leave your pod.  Do a search for "ambulation" on you tube.

I hope OP relalizes that no one will be forced to walk outside of their ship. Dev said a lot of times that you will still be able to do everything from the current interface and you can leave your ship for fun but no one will be forced to do it to access station options.

I just dont see majority of pilots who dock in station to refit or resupply stepping out of their ships. In mots cases it will be dock, refit, undock. On the other hand it will give spammer in Jita a place where they can sit down and spam all day long.

Yeah and i hope after that they`ll ban the damn space combat and we can have the good ol' fighting in stations with elves and dwarfes, and eveyone can display their uber armor and guns.

But now back to eve .. OP you are badely missing the point of eve and you should stick with the standard MMORPGS. As someone pointed in his bio "when a player goes from eve to wow the IQ of both games rises"

sigh... I miss the old SWG when JTL came out. Now that was how I hoped space games could be. If there could be some bastard child of swg and eve some day that would be great.

I just cancelled eve a day ago. I wanted to join eve-u but they been on war dec for a while and I don't like the fact that the skill system feels like a trick to keep you playing month to month just so you can level up.

I completely understand why the OP said what he said. Unfortunately I feel (and everyone confirmed) that EvE is space first with first person as an after thought. I would like in-cockpit views and station views, but how long will that last before I quit again? Who knows, it might be just the thing to keep me going.

    Dear Lord,

Can you imagine all the lemmings in Jita 4-4 station? Seriously, why bother with a feature no one really wants in the first place, when there are huge amounts of problems with the code running in production right now? Fleet battles are no longer possible. System nodes in limbo are leaving players hanging out there for hours trying to log in. Warping in to a fight in progress takes 5-30 minutes to load the grid. Should I bother to continue?

Yeah, I have heard the whole thing about "People that are working on walking in stations aren't the people responsible for server issues...", and all I have to say is resource management. It is obvious that CCP doesn't have enough capable resources working on the desynch and lag problems, as those problems persisted for ages now.

Screw this walking in stations idea. Make the damn game playable for those who do try to play it to the fullest.

Just put a poster of bridge of Startrek or w/e, oogle it now and then while flying in EVE and RP with other weirdos in private chat.

    Problem solved.

Remember too that adding ambulation to EvE is just testing out the engine for their next MMO, the vampire one (cant remember the name atm) that White Wolf is responsible for.

I think ambulation will add a lot to the game for many people.  I want to walk around sometimes, I want to have meetings around a conference table in a big fancy office.

Im sure that CCP will continue to add content to ambulation as time goes on, they have already said that they plan to have clothing makers, bars, and gambling so there will eventually be plenty of stuff for people to do without ever getting into their ships.

Walking around in Eve is the most pointless waste of time ever imagined.

They're only doing it to attract all the WoW kids.

I wish they'd dump that stupid idea and invest more in making more techs or bigger ships.

Wait a sec...i dont actually play eve online but i do recall someone once telling me the RP reason it was ships only , not "toons" as i remember ( i may have this wrong) him telling me that these pod pilots have lived there entire existence integrated into the pods themselves making them more like  the ships organic super computer and because of this integration they can never step fourth from the pod itself.

    Is this true?

    Yes

but from an RP side of things, they are going to introduce it as scientists finally working out how to disconnect a pilot with new technology

Actually You aarre wrong pod pilots story wise always could disconnect.

    Story 1

    Pod pilot interviewing a crewman.

    Story 2

    Podder working in comms.

    Story 3

Something that happens to all Pod piots.

    Story 4

    Another interesting story.

Then don't engage in it if they add it. Seriously people stop projecting your dislikes and likes onto others. If you can't understand that some people have different tastes in the world when it comes to what they consider fun or entertaining then you have some issues to work out yourself.

As for the other stuff you are asking for well if you aren't in a Titan now then odds are you won't be flying anything else that is larger then a Titan for a long time to come if ever. The resource costs alone for something larger then a Titan would ensure only a select few ever get to fly these "bigger" ships.

Anyways IMHO anything that can up the immersion level in a MMO game is always welcomed.

I would really love that option too, but the way eve is doing it is going to end up dying.

I submitted a petition over a week ago about crashes reguarding the CCPEXE File, and WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE 64 bit systems and DEP...

They refuse to respond, or fix the file at all.

Although most people will blame vista for the issue, its really CCP's fault not upgrading the software...

Vista maybe the issue, but microsoft provided them with the source code to make it work correctly.

Although it would be great to have walking around characters, it would be great to be able to login the game, and get a popup saying DATE EXECUTION PREVENTION has Closed CCPEXE File because it was a security vulnability...

This happens mostly when going afk at a space dock, in the space dock, or logging in, sometimes it works ok for a long while, and then it crashes and says it.

EvE is, after all, a game about spaceships.
It increases the immersion. When I played Eve I never felt very immersed by the world and the main reason was the controls of the game I wasnt giving me the feeling that I was playing a character that was controlling a ship, more it felt that I was the ship. And being a ship doesnt excactly make me immersed into a world. It feels awkard to double click in the direction you want to go, not excactly the way I would imagine controlling a space ship would be like.

I doubt station walking will change that because you will still become a ship when you exit the station. However if they changed how the system works so that you are on a control bridge and you isse commands that will move your ship then the feeling of being  a ship would go away, but that will never happen.

I see you  still haven't got rid of your faulty OS.

Fact of the matter is that Vista is right now a bugged out piece of rubbish Get yourself XP it works better to begin with.

I think it would be fun, and would add a mildly entertaining rp feature to the game, which it lacks a little bit. But altogether I'd rather see them improve things rather than add new flashy stuff. Thats what happened in Anarchy Online and its sorta been hurting it.
