You will never get the level of detail out of a open world game as you would with a multi lleveled game,, meaning more time can be spent on making each thing pop, shading, texturing and the over all design of the specific area. Open world appeals to me very much , but when it comes to over presentation of art , game mechanics and innovation in combat controls and character development, Conan is the ultimate game.
No other game coming out in the next decade will beable to live up to the new standards that Conan will unleash on the o so unsuspecting nay sayers. This is one time , that a great majority of people will be eating their words, I guarantee it .
In what way? I'm not arguing the point, but I don't remember hearing much about AoC that sounded revolutionary. It might turn out to be a solid game, but to me, it looked like another class/level based PvE grind with a PvP endgame. Of course, I could be wrong...

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
Hey I could be wrong, but that's just what i've been reading.
I'm just so sick of instances. WTH happened to competition. It's as if the MMO part of MMRPGs is fading more and more. Getting very old, which is a big reason why I like VG and some of the F2P games. No instances. All contested.
The year 1999 called and said you can still come back to play Everquest1.
TCoS has a slow start, but will be better then both.
Reason: Something different and caring gamecreators. Yes laugh about it. Ha ha ha!
But if that game will fail, ill put my bets on WoW. Cohan will go to Xbox 360 so there will be some serieus limits, and no matter what you fanboiz say, WAR is a WoW clone with a few enchanments. Dang, even the cinematic trail is stolen from WoW.
I think this is a pretty tough call, and I say that as an AoC fan, but also a fan of the MMORPG genre.
WAR has a huge following based on the IP. AoC has a much smaller following based on it's brand name.
WAR is focusing on PvP, and setting out to do it right. AoC is trying to offer both PvE and PvP, and it's hard to perfect that.
No idea on the WAR budget. (I think the target audience is more niche, but still a large percentage of those who currently subscribe to MMO's) AoC clocking in with over 55 million invested, says that they are going to try to appeal to a broad audience.
I dont know the EA/Mythic financial commitment, but I do believe that they've got massive resources that they CAN throw at a game. However, ultimately PvP isnt going to be for everyone, and whether it is or not, WAR is going to have the perception of being a PvP game. To me, that means it can start off hotter, but I think it's ultimate cap might be lower.
On the other hand, Age of Conan is trying to do a lot, which means more ground for people to find fault, or find things they dont like. Will that combat system be attractive to people? I'm certain not everyone will like it. They are trying to add concepts that have not appeared with much success in MMO's in the past, will they all work?
I really hope that both games garner large audiences, and are high quality products. Considering the disapointing '07 release slate, I think the genre needs some fresh offerings. I hope both games find their target audiences and amaze them!
I'm waiting for both AoC and WAR since years now, and I'm lucky to be able to beta test em actually.
To be honnest AoC was my favourite, because I heard about instances in WAR, and this is just the kind of thing I deeply hate.
But as I said, I had the opportunity to test these games.. and I'm now almost sure about it : WAR will pwn AoC *if they continue their evolution this way*.
I hope they'll both be two real good PvP games, but one of em is really really far behind the other one, in terms of gameplay, zoning, classes/races ingame background, etc.

thought warhammer had chnaged to age of warhammer then
TBH until both games are out and have been played by lots of people the whole point is mute.
Yes hype it but saying anything else is all BS for now

Hahahaha you must be new to the spellborn community or you would know that "caring game creators" is far from the truth.
