For those of you europeans and aussis who havent bothered to learn georaphy we have 2k miles of oceans on either side of us and we dont really care what south america does. what makes you think that any of us care if you think soccer is better then football. college football carries more emotion with it then any other sport. if you dont belive me next october go to dallas find tickets to OU vs UT that game is amazing 50/50 split of fans at the 50 yard line. ever sports announcer who has announced that game has been awed by it and says its the most amazing thing theyve ever seen.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.

Okay, now send over some of your football teams from NFL Europe and then we'll post a thread about that as well.

Dont play that rubbish here.  We have 4 codes of Football (Rugby Union, Rugby League, Soccer & Aussie Rules).  Why would we want to play a soft version.

Oh, and you need to lighten up.

LOL so you come in and insult a huge group of people and then tell me to lighten up?  Let me straighten some stuff out for you

Football is anything but a soft version of rugby, that is only something said by people who have never played football.

Soccer is the wussy sport if you want to compare it to football, i know that the truth hurts, get over it.

I've played both Rugby and football, football hits are indescribably harder, wanna know why?  Because someone hitting you when they have pads on and don't care about their body will hit you harder than someone who does not, hence harder contact...don't believe me?  Come to America and i'll show you.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Also, this argument about the more "violent" hence more manly of sports is easily won by Canada.  Hockey is by far the fastest and most violent sport around (in regards to the mainstream non combative sports).  There is no competition here, on the other end of the spectrum however lies croquet and soccer.

Sorry, but falling every time someone gets close to you with or without being touched, yet writhing in supposed pain, all to gain an advantage for your team is the most cowardly thing in any sport.  The fact that it is not only accepted in Soccer but expected, encouraged and ridiculously commonplace puts Soccer paravail on the list.

So you have played Rugby, hate to tell ya but thats a soft game too.  Rugy League is the toughest of the codes here in my book.

And if you want to talk big hits, lets talk big hits.  Your football code has players practically wrapped up in a protective suit with all that padding they wear (not to mention the stack hats).  Take a look at the following Rugby League hits, see any pads...dont think so.  I have not seen hits like this in your code. (at least not as consistant as in a game of Rugby League)

The fact that they all held onto the ball for the most part is more impressive than the actual hits. I'd love to see a tailback hold onto it after padless hits like that.

Once again, you have absolutely no idea what the hell you are talking about.  To call football pads a "protective suit" is absolutely ludacris, and all it really does for your argument is show that you have never played, and therefore have no friggen clue what you're saying.

Remember, U.S. is basically still in their first generation of soccer.  In my High school, in my town, soccer has only been played for 15 years.  Once some generations of soccer players are born, and these coaches actually teach the game, the U.S. will catch up.

I think its sad how Flem judges the quality of a sport based upon how "manly" or violent it is.

Fine, the US doesn't play a lot of soccer. Do you see them making posts about how much they own at baseball and football? It really shows how desperate you are you justify the strength of your country by bragging about winning something the other team doesn't even play.

Wrapped in a protective suit? What the hell have you even ever watched or played football? Lets break down what they have. Helmet now this does provide a ton of protection but thats a good things.Next down the list you have shoulder pads, they are there mostly so you can hit someone harder since you often will lead with a shoulder. Now midchest to leg area there is no protection. Arms have no protection. Legs have a few maybe 1/2 inch pads in certian locations mainly just over key muscles so when they get hit not as badly affected and can keep on playing.

That video had your big hits I mean so were decent but since they don't have a pads they can't go full out. Here is a link to some nice football hits noticed people being hit in the head and going airborne two things never see in rugby. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=OLRt6KqhKX4

It is really funny someone brought up how hockey is the most violent sport even though they have by far the most pads. Hmm how can that be. Well it is the most violent sport by far I mean hockey players are pure nuts they might have pads but if anyone has played hockey they understand how fast you can go on the ice and you are carrying a big stick which is great for checking.  So what I am saying is just because a sport has pads doesn't take away from it's violence I mean gladiotrs have armor so does that mean rugby is more manly then that?

No, what's sad is your assumption.  I never said i like a sport because its violent.  Cricket is probably my second favorite sport after Rugby League and thats about as violent as golf.

I just don't get why everyone is even trying to claim their sport is the most violent or whatever. I mean I think rugby, football and hockey are all pretty violent sports.

Oh and how about this I could say rugby is a sissy sport compared to MMA I mean you can't even punch someone in the head or knee them in the face whats up with that I mean total sissy sport unless you can punch or kick someone.

One fighting is against the rules so using your stick as a weapon is not allowed now yes there are a ton of fights in hockey but nothing to compare to a MMA fight most time guys are hitting another guy in the helmet.

Yep, we do suck at soccer compared to the rest of the world......we have however, come a long way.   The game has grown substantially in the last  20 years.   I can't help but feel that at the very least, we will actually have a chance at the World Cup in 2010 or 2014.  Yeah......I know.......

      Men play football.....

      Intelligent men play soccer.

    MMA is for Sissy's

Roll around on the ground with those hand pads on, tap out at the slightest hint of a broken limb. Cant even kill the other person.

Matador is where the real men are. :P

Not all MMA has pads for some wierd reason if I say MMA people always assume it means UFC MMA can pretty much be any kind of fighting including some pretty crazy stuff they do in africa.

You are right though any sport which deals with a bull is pretty nuts. Profesional bullriders have to have something wrong with them to do what they do.

Always dominated the olympic games ?

    Hardly dominated it at all.

I would say Australia is the most dominant sport country.

Looking at per capita medals (which is good considering you guys have 10 times the population of us) you can see that Australia has 0.8547 gold medals per million at 2004 compared to the 0.1203 gold medals per million of the united states.

This is at the Athens olympics, traditionally giving the home team a massive advantage (Home team has ALWAYS been the largest team)

Australia, 3rd (with a decent amount of data to do the actual calculation) with USA at 34th .

Now total medal tallys are even more telling

Australia has earnt 2.4635 medals per million putting us in 2nd, compared to the 0.3539 medals per million of the home team which put them into 39th.

One i did find interesting though was China

China won 0.0489 medals per million which put them into 70th place, nearly dead last.

Umm im pretty sure Australia can fill all its spots just like the US can. Medals per capita is a poor respestion of how a country does.

Firstly let me say that the OP should know better than post things about soccer to Americans.

If someone post anything about Baseball in a European Forum you' ll get the same response (Base what???).

So not a good idea in the first place.

US people just have a different culture than rest of the world.

They like sport with high scores, like Football, Basket, Baseball and even Hockey, they don't understand how people can get excited watching a Soccer match which ends 0-0.

    They will never get it.

They like their sport like we do like ours.

Apart from all that, I find the myth of Football  being  a macho sport a bit amusing.

Soccer might not be hard sport, and in this I agree, but it is never intended to be a physical sport, you can compare Soccer with Basketball, where there is minimal physical contact.

But certainly if you think Football is a macho sport is a bit delusional.

I don't have a problem Americans using paddings in their sports, as long the Americans don't start with the usual "Football is for real men and Soccer is for pansy" (just have a look at the very second post of the thread.......)

I am sorry but that's risible, Soccer surely is not a physical game by design, but to say that a sport which uses padding is "for real men" just make me laugh.

If you want to play a macho sport play Rugby, which the rest of the world plays, and it's very similar to Football.

But Americans don't look very keen to take off their padding and get some real physical beating.

Maybe their lovely lips and noses are too precious to risk it, but then again it is ok for them labeling people who plays sports less physical than football as nancies.

    Anyway bottom line is.

For Americans Soccer suxx, and for the rest of the world American Fotball suxx.

There s not changing this, we should all accept it and move on.
