Downloading and was looking for some nub help :P

Hey, I just got DDO, and am still downloading the patches, and was wondering if anyone could help me out? Like what server, what classes I should start out, and if anyone wanted to start a char with me.

If you guys know any good nub sites to help me, please post.

Thanks lots :)

Since the merge, all the servers are pretty stable and crowded, so no real issues there.  Class wise, I think starting with a melee type (fighter, barbarian, or paladin) is one of the easier ways to learn the system (you're not getting one-hit killed by bad guys!)

Just don't hesitate to tell people in groups your new and would like to go slow and see what there is to see...most people will try and do that.

    hehe Thanks for your help.

K, I'll try that, is rogue a "populated" class like in WoW? I liked that class in WoW but I know games are different.

Rogues are next to worthless in this game...I'd choose from Paladin/Fighter/Barb, theyre easy to learn the basics and can develop to be powerful classes.  The community in DDO is very mature so letting people know you are new can help if you want to slow things down.

Well, I'd disagree about rogues being useless, as rogues can be insanely powerful...BUT...to do that takes an extremely talented player, as it's probably the toughest  class to play well.

I agree that rogues are fantastic if played well.  However, I would do as the other poster said and roll a melee character to start to get a feel for the game...work enough favour to unlock Drow and maybe reroll then...but only of you're not having fun.

There are some very hard classes to play. Rogues and bards are the hardest. Any kind of melee combination with full plate is on the other hand probably the easiest. (Fighters, Paladins, Clerics multiclass combination). Casters (wizard, sorcerer) are middle ground. Each group offers completely different experience.

Rogues are misunderstood. MY rogue can heal, fight, diable traps, raise the dead, etc. Rogues are absolutely useful if built well. THe key is building a useful rogue, a straight up trap monkey will not get you too far, but a dual wielding rogue with insane sneak attack damage can assist any party and make it better. Plus, after everyone else dies, the rogue is usually still alive to raise the cleric and others.

I would recommend playing a fighter or barbarian. Paladins are not useful in my opinion unless multiclassed with other chars.

I have a 4 fighter/ 2 barb that is out of this world insane. The key is knowing what points to put into strength, intel, cha, etc. when you build the char.

    my build was

    18 str

    15 dex

    16 con

    8 int

    10 wiz

    8 cha

A fighting machine. with enhancements you can overcome the spell resistance issues that having a low will power causes, not a big deal.

Wait for DROW to roll a rogue, it makes all the difference. You need 400 favor and it comes fast.
