Give it another go?

I played this game for just over a year starting at the first week of release and quit  just after they introduced those mastery event things...dont remember what they are called now.  This was, hands down, the funnest MMO i have ever played, but i got frustrated by radar programs and "teh zerg" so i bailed out.

well, i am now TIRED of EQ2 and am looking for fun...and i remember this game as being big fun (as long as you are IN the zerg and not a victim of it).  I have convinced my girlfriend to stop playing EQ2 and play somthing else before Huxley and War are released, and she has agreed...  While i did sell my accounts back in the day (another driving force for leaving...$300 bucks for an infiltrator and a buffbot BEFORE they nerf'd radar programs...hehehe), i am eyeing the free trial with anticipation, but have a few quick quesitons:

 - Does the zerg still exist on the frontier?

 - Do folks still fight to take and keep the Caers and Forts on the frontier?

 - Are the BG's still as much HUGE fun as they used to be (usually 20-30 folks in the BG's at any given time...with hundreds in on the weekends)

 - Are the Albs still ruling the day ( all my toons were Albion )

I think im going to download and patch up this weekend and would love to join a realm / server of another MMORPG.com troll, so let me know how your server is !

Thanks !

I'm in the same boat. I played from beta for about a year and then quit and I'm now wondering if it'd be fun to return.

Where can I download the client from? ..

i saw the base client in a cheapo VHS/DVD store for only $9.00 CDN, but i am sure that is probably the first release and would need to be patched.  You can get the trial client from the web site (http://www.darkageofcamelot.com/), but if i recall correctly, unlike other games, the fun BEGINS at level 20, and i dont know about getting to 20 in two weekends.  I will probably get the big-bundle pack if i can find it.

There seems to be quite a number of folks that played this game, loved it and still they left.  I wonder why ?  It seems that every thread on this forum has a response from a person that used to play the game and are debating coming back...

    ....interesting....

I left once I hit 50. I realised that high-end PvP really wasn't great, as it was just a massive zerg fest in which the team with the most people won. I resented the fact that you simply couldn't solo in RVR.

I'd be interested in returning so I could role a new toon and play up to 50 again. And it's possible stuff has changed since I last played so 50 RVR might be fun.

Catacombs expansion and everything from earlier are all free downloads, so dont bother buying the client!

You'd need to play on the american classic servers, since they have the most population! Its still good fun! Lots of people as well! Not many zergs, but lots of 8man groups running around

This is a hard one lol. I played the game for about 3 years n have recently come back, and its best to download the 14 day free trial tbh.

    - The Zerg in general doesnt exist any more as there are A. Not as many players as there used to be and B. People tend to have set groups and have very specialised roles. 1 FG of good well equipped players could take down 3-4 times their number  or more of a headless zerg force.

-Yes people still take keeps and towers etc but its not as epic as it once was since you dont need that many to take a keep but its still fun, i mainly play an infil but i do take part now n again. People take forsts because they want to hold Darkness Falls or DF.

-Im currently playing a BG toon infil in Thidranki and i have to say its never dead. On peak times it can be zerging a lot of the time and it annoys me as i tend to solo/duo but whilst not in the 100's very often it is always busy and never dull.

-And depends what server you are on, to be honest the 3 realms are pretty much even no real problems in balance at least on the Bossiney cluster where i play.

Now when you start you will have to pick either a normal server or classic mainly. Normal comes with the expansion Trials of Atlantis in use in the game and this provides elite gear with lots of uses and abilities, this used to be extremely hard to get and a lot of people quit because of it but now they have classic servers. These servers are more casual orientated but imo they are best as they seem to be more populated than other servers. The classic servers and very noob friendly and its easier to get your character all twinked out and ready for pvp and in a much shorter time frame. I play Alb Lamorak on the Bossiney cluster and atm you will find me on either Paint or Cokaine ingame. Hope it helped.

Hmm, you say it's best to play on US servers... But my char was originally on Excalibur... Does excal still exist? Which server will I need to play to still have my old toons?

  • SilverwatchSilverwatch Member Posts: 232

I originally played Prydwen EU so were in the same boat. The English EU servers are DEAD. No point in playing them what so ever, like 30+ prime time, get more on a BF2 server, the German servers are where everyone has migrated to and there are english alliances etc there but i dont play them anymore. I prefer US classic as its just generally more fun. Your characters will still be on excal and Goa/Mythic dont have the ability to transfer characters so you will have to start from day 1 again. I would reccomend D/L the free trial from the site which will link you to the US servers and then start playing again. The real choice then is what class lol.

Yep, he is right! American classic servers should be your choice! Most populated and lots of action!

-And don't mind the grind - they've made it a lot easier to reach lvl 50
