Any ideas on how to get people out of the left lane who aren't passing other traffic? Riding the bumper and flipping them off, although very entertaining, does not seem to work too well...

my sweet 96 year old great grandmother drives in the left lane, and if i ever see you riding her bumper or flipping her off i'll .. well you can finish the rest.
patience is a sign of maturity, the opportunity to pass will come, and people lives may be saved because of it.

Which is illegal. The left lane, on 2-lane highways, is for passing vehicles ONLY. I seriously hope that anybody, including your grandmother, that does this gets a ticket. It does not help traffic, it causes it.

Please don't ride the bumper or flick off anyone. It's dangerous and not a sense of maturity at all. When me and my mom were in the car one day driving this massive truck decided to ride everyones bumper to the point that they wouldn't care if they hit them or not and it scared many people on the road including my mother and it's very nerve wrecking. I called the police on that guy too. It's just one of the things that causes accidents and I dislike people who do things like that. If I see you doing that, Rikimaru will caltrop yo car. So if your car start flippin, don't start trippin.

At least here in Toronto the people are reasonably good on the highways... the downtown core is where all my complaints are. Trying to get home at 4pm it takes me 15 minutes to move 3 blocks.... and yet the city complains they have no money. I tell ya what. Get some cops out there and start ticketing the motherf***ers. Hit them where it hurts the most, their walet. Then take that money and quit bitching.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Why don't you be the new mayor then Illius?

It’s illegal? Where other than Germany on the Autobahn? Unless it is posted to keep right, then it is purely a matter of courtesy. If they are impeding the flow of traffic, then there is a violation. If you are speeding YOU are in violation. If YOU are “riding” their bumper then YOU are in violation of safe following distance laws.
I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.
In England the right lane is for overtaking and the left is the driving lane.

Hmm. . . well I know for a fact it is a California law. On the 5 north to Oregon if you are not passing on the left you can get pulled over by the CHP. There are signs every 10 miles or so that tell you so. . .
By the way, never once did I condone the act of speeding or riding somebody's bumper. However, you are not allowed to just cruise in the left lane, on a two-lane highway in California (although I am pretty sure it is a law elsewhere as well). Please don't try to point the finger at me. . .

Sorry, I was not directing the speeding and tailgating towards you, it was for the OP, but when I read my post it does look like I was talking to you. Again sorry. As far as law goes in a POSTED area then yes, anywhere else I can't find it. Remember there is a difference between rules and laws. I could not find anything here http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/driver_handbook_toc.htm but you might. Then again it is not worth arguing about because I feel the same way. If you are driving slow stay out of the left lane except to pass.

Indeed. The left lane is the right lane and the right lane is the wrong lane.
