Thinking about returning to LotRO

I started to play LotRO the week the game was released, but im not a huge RP'er so i decided to leave. I am just wondering if they still have all of the rp based rules on all the servers (I.E. names have to be related to the time period of lotro and the race that you are)... loved the game itself, but i cant stand being forced into roleplaying mode.

Landroval is the RP server, your names don't *have* to be based off the middle earth lore or anything, but they don't encourage names that are too stupid, either. Join a server such as Brandywine or the others that aren't Landroval and you should be good to go :)

Oh, there is no forced RP, I've not once done it since I've played, or encountered too many people that do.

Well, thats sort of extreme roleplaying when you mess with the language....

Many peoples ideas of role-playing just involve making sure your ingame chat doesn't involve the "real world."  Put another way.... you always act like you are the character, living in that world.  So you don't announce to the guild that you are "logging out" for the evening, you say you are off to bed or retire for the evening.  You don't take a "bio" break, you step away to the loo.

It isn't that hard to stay in character, no special language required....(though I was once in a guild in DAOC called Shadowclan where everyone had to speak in a modified version of Tolken's Orcish language, but most RP'ers aren't quite that hardcore.)

That said.......best bet it to play any other server besides Landroval (sp) and you'll never have an issue...(but doen't name your character something stupid, show a bit of style..even if its not in context with the game world)

There are no rules for any of the servers. Any "Rules" you encounter are created by players.

IE: There is no offical RP server.

The name thing isn't too bad.  It just can't be some famous fictional character, from LOTR or any other IP.  You don't have to stick to the racial naming structure, it's just there to help people out who can't think of a name.

I haven't played anywhere else, but I know on Gladden i never run in to any RP nazis.  Not once has anyone even told me to take my conversation to OOC, something that happened to me daily in SWG. ;)

No offense intended to anyone here.... and this honestly isn't intended as a flame or anyting like but...

.... I've always been snookered as to why anyone would want to play a Role-Playing Game if they had absolutley no interest in role-playing?

From my perspective it kinda seems like some-one going out and purchasing Madden '07 when they don't like football.... and then turning around and getting annoyed because there is so much football stuff going on in it.

You don't have to pretend that you are actually an Elven warrior to play the role of one in a video game.... just like you don't have to put your jersey and pads on and pretend you are Tom Brady to play Madden.

The same Shadowclan that started in UO on Siege Perilous? I know the different UO shards had different dialects of Orcish, so I bet the DAOC Shadowclan had a unique dailect too.
