I agree with about 95% of what you have there OP.  The things about your list I am not crazy about are the open PVP with fully lootable corpse, the no healing, instanced housing / guild halls, and the fantasy setting.

I am huge fan of PvP in MMOs, however I am not as much of a fan of ganking.  I would prefer a system similar to the old Covert and Overt GCW system in SWG in which the player himself chooses whether or not he is flagged for open PvP.  As for the looting of player corpses, that's a big no in my opinion.   That's a little too hardcore for me.

The No healing thing is  bad idea in my opinion.  Healing adds an extra component to combat, which I think enriches the experience.  I thought SWG was on the right track with healing.  Having a "medic" or "doctor" set of skills was a nice feature.

I'm a huge fan of player housing in games and player cities as well.  I can live with Instanced housing, but in my opinion static housing and static player cities add much more depth to the game.

As for the fantasy setting, hey I like fantasy as much as the next guy, but I would prefer a sci-fi game.  If you're going to do fantasy ok I can live with that too I suppose, but I would prefer something more Final Fantasy like in which there are elements of sci-fi built into the fantasy setting.

I got another idea for an MMO, but nobody read it. So here's my shameless plug.

Basically what the OP said. But in a Firefly/BSG type universe.

    Close. :)

I'd prefer to not have instanced housing, as if I put effort into customizing my house (or my business), I want people to be able to see it.  In particular, I'd like the ability to customize the OUTSIDE of my home.  Nothing says "buy my crafted weapons" like hanging a few dozen troll heads over your door.

Full corpse looting, I'd actually prefer random rolls on the items.  Why?  Because, if you can take everything, it becomes too easy to obtain rare gear without working for it.  If each item gets a random roll to survive death and stay on the corpse, or to be destroyed (anyone remember piles of scraps from text muds?), it serves two purposes.  It makes PK'ing to get rares much harder, and it also means death is a scary thing to be avoided in PvE as well.

Totally agree with skills instead of classes and levels.  I would suggest a system where skills are tiered and can be mutually exclusive, so you don't end up with everyone being superman at the endgame.  IE:  If you learn fire spells from a mage guild that specilizes in fire, no ice guild will teach you.

I used to play an old text-based strategy game called conquer.  I also played text muds.  I spent some time a while back thinking about combining the two so that high-level players in the mud would have a kind of army following them around, which wouldn't have any impact on the mud combat, but which would be a seperate strategic-level game involving land capture and city warfare.

The idea of razing player-built cities isn't bad, but it's very hard to do right.  Shadowbane was an example of how NOT to do it... it's no fun to have a small guild log in to find themselves homeless because they didn't have the 24-hour-a-day manpower to defend it around the clock.  OTOH, if players could essentially drop armies and order them to attack particular targets, and these battles were scheduled in some way, it might prove interesting.

I'd also like to see a real crafting system (ala SWG, pre-cu).

Oh, and hello to fellow EVE player star.buck, whose post sits directly over mine. *grin*

I second a Firefly (Serenity) MMO based on the original SWG Engine But I don't want SOE to manage the game. I liked the fact you could master upto 2 classes of 32 available. You choose your own career, and can respec to different careers if the initial path wasn't satisfying.

I also want player approved tools for uploading community content into the MMO to add to the diversity of items, missions, ships, player structures, vehicles, weapons and armor stuff for everyone and everything.  This is an integral part of the player economy. Sure there would be a multitude of raw materials and resources to mine, harvest, and slaughter for, but stagnation of variety couldn't be blamed on the DEVS for not providing more content. Uploaded content would have to pass a test server check to certify the content's code stability. That might mean a day or so if there is a backlog, but it creates a job for someone to check this stuff.

Entropia had an interesting approach to regulate how UBER weapons could be based on their cost, and the cost of their ammo. You wouldn't fire your cannon at a level 1 target because there isn't any profit in doing that.

A comment about citys, they seem too deserted. I would love to see someone come up with a crowded cityscape like Bladerunner or Coruscant. Neon lights, traffic, bustling populous bots with real players intermixed in the crowds in bars, night clubs, and other venues like theaters and in-game arcades. Gambling Casinos even but with a new approach to winning and losing, no camping. Rentable apartments and vendor shops should be made available as well. If your a ship owner, your own hangar or you pay a space-port docking fee with the portmaster. Players should be able to see what ships are in town.

I dont think I've said anything new.

Entropia online, 2nd Life, SWG, and a hankering for some Space Salvage operations.

The notion that graphics, or anything else for that matter, are anywhere near as important as gameplay/fun is so utterly ridiculous that anyone who shares such a view should be placed in an asylum.

I'm sure that with every weapon there are dozens of real world forms and attacks used by martial arts masters of that weapon. Or look at fencing. Probably unecessary to model em that way, but there are lots of subtle skills specific to each specific weapon.

    for last poster sorry

probably the way i would implement it into a game threw 3 catgories passive attack chain, special attacks, passive defence's. attack skills would fall under one of those 3 catagories.

passive attack chain- 8 slot pre arranged auto attack, melee skills would play off each other                       Ex: (random numbers, generic names) Low sword slash =  85% of weapons dammage +10% increase chance to hit with high sword slash, virtical sword slash, and high sword jab on next 2 attack.... simple example.  playing off the whole skill's based game rather then increasing dammage threw level dammage bonuses or new shiny sword obtaining a "rare sword skill" could greatly improve your dammage

special attacks- the click the icon attacks.  you know um these whats in alot of the mmorpg's now

passive defence-  like passive attack chain 8 slots. this would consist of weapon specific and general defence skilles that could increase change to dodge or counter attack skills(like a skill based armour if that makes sence)

Everything the OP mentioned (but with servers with no full player looting for those that don't like it.)

On top of all that, NO raiding, instead emphasis on open world PvP with seige weapons and player-made cities and towns. Emphasis on strategy, and a game that isn't gear based.

I have to agree to a point from AoC graphics, eq2/eq content, WoW Appeal, DAoC PvP and SWG Character Creation but as far as gameplay it really very hard to say because each game is lacking something and as far as community also could not tell you because they go up and down all the time.

I have yet to actually find a game that has kept my interest for more then 2yrs without taking a break and coming back at a later date think the only two games I stayed all the way thru without a break for more then 3 yrs was EQ and DAoC(only until alot of people started leaving and PvP died) .Played WoW thru most of the beta so once it was released I played a yr then stopped came back right before expansion got tired that the only things to do a high lvls was raiding and PvP (without the gear from raids or PvP you where useless).

I think a game with all the combine traits above would make a excellent MMO. All I am asking that a MMO come out soon that I can actually enjoy playing.
