Was watching the GC07 Wrath of the Lich King Presentation this morning.. Something doesn't quite click. The Blizzard fellow stated that the majority of WoW players are PvPers, yet why don't they cater to this? Yes WoW has shitloads of PvE instances and content, but how many players actually have time to see that content? A small minority. I think XP from PvP kills is an excellent idea and encourages World PvP. People used to go out in hunting parties looking for players to wipe, then those players would call enforcements in and we'd have huge battles. Of course, this idea is only as good as the thought put in behind it. Blizzard should keep the flagging system they have to protect lower levels, but if someone is within your level range or you attack them first... PvP away. Just has to be controlled. With the ideas present for the expansion, they'll need to implement something like this if they actually want people to consistently use the World PvP areas and so on. That and you'll gain more from Battlegrounds rather than an endless grind.
I honestly don't see why you shouldn't. You can in DAoC and you will be able to in Warhammer. So why not WoW? Everyone knows PvPing is why more challenging anyway, so why not add a little more incentive to PvP? And exploitation is not a real reason. Killing the same person over and over should result in a significant loss to XP...sorta like a "cooldown" to get XP from that person again.
So then I should get PvP xp for killing mobs. That sound ok to you?
You mean honor? No, that wouldn't be ok. Killing mobs doesn't require any skill or thought.
So you don't want me to get something for nothing and yet you want to get something for nothing. And while it may not require any skill or thought, it does require time. And there are those that would argue that it doesn't take a lot of skill or thought to get honor either. I don't agree, but I don't agree that it takes no skill or thought to kill mobs either, just not as much.
Getting XP for PvP is not considered nothing. It requires a lot more concentration and skill to kill players than mobs.
Which you get honor for. You get XP for killing mobs. Since it requires no skill, it should not bother you in the slightest that you have to kill mobs to get XP, you can do it in your sleep. Let your baby brother play your account for you and kill the mobs. The fact that you are complaining about it implies that it does require something. So again I say to you, why should you get something for nothing? Just kill some mobs. Why are you complaining about having to do something that requires no effort?
Maybe what they can do is only allow XP gain in pvp during like Batlegrounds. Get so much a kill, the team get so much for turnign in a flag in WSG or what ever. I think it would be fun and make wait time lower substantally. But I could be wrong, and to control the gankers like i said it would only happen in battle ground. So noone will really go around the world killing people as feared.
I think it would be a great idea.

Well, maybe if they just made it so that you'd have to make sure the kills were completely solo. BG or outside, and work the same as honor sort of but maybe you can turn on like "XP" mode so you get XP instead of honor but it compensates, almost like as much as you would for a normal mob. Normal honor kill, normal XP for the level. It couldn't really be exploited cause of the diminishing returns.

So, wait, You're telling me that it takes skill and thought for me to log onto my rogue run up to another player spam sinister strike until I have 5 points then evicerate (or another finisher if i so feel like it) and then repeat the process....guess I'm overestimating the game. By the way I love wow, and played it for a long time, so I am in no way bashing the game before everyone gets their panties in a bunch

If you do exactly what you said you would get owned in most BGs.

Really, I've played in many many BG's and that works rather well. Trust me it does not take a ton of thought to play as a rogue in pvp, or better yet, go into stealth, shadowstep, open up with ambush or cheap shot, then continue the assault. I am only speaking from a rogues perspective and from what I've found to be rather successful. I am usually high up on the scores, so if you want to deny this I would go and educate yourself on playing a rogue in BGs. And if you want to give me shit about the pvp with other classes i have no damned clue how it is, because I played a rogue, not anything else. Thank you for your time, and if you're going to try to tell me I'm wrong atleast give me some back up evidence as to why you believe this
agreed with the OP. I enjoyed PvP, I didn't go much on PvE. No point in continuuing playing for me when I had to devote time to something I didn't want to play.

You're right in saying it doesn't take much skill to sneak up on a clothy and kill him. But if you're gonna say it takes more skill to grind mobs than pvp you're just an ignorant fool.

I always thought the reason you did not get XP from PVP was to stop power-leveling. One guild lets another guild kill them for a while, than they trade places.

Like I've typed before exp for PvP was a reality in WoW for quite a lengthy bit. When you turned in BG marks of honor in the past, you got exp. So you could just level up while doing PvP in theory. Of course you ahd to grind for repair costs/items and sometimes there weren't any battlegrounds up for your level, but I managed to level up my hunter almost entirely with PvP action.

Eh ... power leveling in WoW was rarely an issue anyway. Besides, Blizzard is facilitating leveling soon enough with an xp gain.
I think PvP xp would be appropriate for PvP servers and BGs.
Ico Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
No i dont like EXP from PvP, wow is a PvE game foremost.. add exp for PvP and you'll have teams of gankers running around the world, ofc if you roll on a PvP realm then expect the gank.. but adding exp will realy take it a stop too far.. thus why WAR PvP is only in PvP zones and not PvE zones. I do think there should be world PvP quests, such as "bring me 10 nelf ears" etc, little things like that to spark up the good'old world pvp that battlegrounds destroyed.
it's real simple: you can't award exp for pvp in a pve game where you can't control the difficulty of the pvp.
how is blizzard gonna make sure your opponents are difficult (or not difficult) enough to warrant any amount of experience?
they can control the difficulty of monsters, and so they can accurately dictate how much exp to give for killing them. It makes no sense to award set exp for killing another player for which they have no control over. why should you get 100 exp for killing a lv 30 who is 10 times better than you, and the same 100 exp for a lv 30 who is afk just standing there?
if wow was strictly pvp then awarding xp for pvp would be fine since it's all part of the same formula. because there is pve, and because exp is pve-based, there is no way to award an equal amount of experience for a pvp battle -- they have no way to compare or control the difficulty of it in relation to the same amount of pve exp.
I honestly don't see why you shouldn't. You can in DAoC and you will be able to in Warhammer. So why not WoW? uhm, a lot of people that are 70 like me have a twink or 2 that would be kind of mad if the thousands of gold we spilled into our twinks leveled up, they used to level up via tokens which are now used on equipment, but yea i think if they reinstated the token for exp thing it would be fun for some people, i personally knew someone who was 19 and leveled to 53 in one day with all of his tokens and quit the game because he had bad gear, no money cuz it was all used twinking and no one to give him money... lol just adding that funny lil story but yea bring back exp tokens... make 60-70 more fun ^.<"
The idea has its merits. If PvP gave experience points, it would cut down on that retarded Battlegrounds twinking. Those level 29 uber-twinks would eventually get bumped up to the bottom of the 30-39 bracket, and the players might have to learn how to play instead of relying on their expensive gear and enchantments.

Then why not make xp optional. In EQ2 you are actually able to disable your xp gain. The same could be done for this idea, disable the xp gain so you don't outlevel the BG.

I don't think this will ever happen in WoW, however in Warhammer Online getting XP from PvP (RvR) will be possible right from level 1.
Defeated enemy players will also drop loot -- not from their own inventory -- but they will drop loot.
