Caldari and pvp, is it possible? (newbie here)

DraccanDraccan Member Posts: 1,050

Yo, I just downloaded and paid for a month's subscription for EVE online. Anyways I wanted to get into this game before, but have decided now is the time (it looks more and more awesome). I have read and printed tons of game guides, reading various posts here and there and I still very very confused.

In fact I haven't even made a real character yet (just one short trial).

I am very warm to the look of Caldari ships and characters and background, but my aim in the game is to pvp. I am not much of a miner / industrial person.

Anyways the more I read the more I understand that Caldari excels at pve and not pvp and never solo well in pvp compared to other races.

Now I know I can be Caldari race and fly other ships, but I want to aim at being the same race as the ships I pick and not waste too much time on the wrong skills.

So the question is: Is Caldari really that bad at pvp? Can anyone sum up their experiences?

thanks..

P.S. Bonus question: What is "ratting"?

P.P.S. Bonus question 2: Is there any money in supporting industrial / mining corps in say escorting? I might just go for pirate or pirate hunter..

They CAN but it isn't really recommended. They are pretty good in gangs but not solo. I would highly recommend training to fly another races ships, honestly.

Quite frankly Bull**** flown Caldari in PVP almost exclusively. From the Best EWAR ships in the game, to solid PVP ships in all classes. Don't think I'll go anywhere different for a long time. You want long range or short you can do it. The only PVP you'll have trouble with is solo PVP but that happens rarely and with a little creativity you can do that as well.

This is right. People who say that caldari (or amarr) are underpowered for PvP are having a problem with them because they're the ships that they fly, and they're incompetent morons. Each race requires some different tactics, but they're all very competitive.

why dont like ppl caldari for pvp because of missile not ships
all the other weapons are "instant damage" but missiles have to fly and at long distance is a pain but also get the good side, u can chose the damage type

I think it more a question of your skill and what u r trying 2 do. To me Caldari r good if u r trying 2 protect what u have, not as good at going for the kill. Gallente can get in close w/ blasters and drones and if your weak they will take you out that way. If your Caldari w/ a good tank, they won't take u out but they will get away because your totally invested in your tank. Minmatar r more versitile, but u still need the skills and the set up.

Im usually the only person flying a scorp when we are in  fleet battles, I use it mostly for ecm support. It works great, is cheap to replace and I guess im a big fan of rendering ppl useless

There is more too it than that.

    Close range caldrie is fine.

long range most caldrie ships tend to suck alot

Also for pvp you need your medslots for tackling gear/Ewar witch leaves almost no room for the ordinary caldrie shield tank, where almost all the other ships armor tank leaveing there meds open for "pvp" stuf with out gimping there tank too much

P.S. Bonus question: What is "ratting"? used for NPC hunting as the abreviated name for hostile NPC's is RAT.
P.P.S. Bonus question 2: Is there any money in supporting industrial / mining corps in say escorting? I might just go for pirate or pirate hunter.. There is always money involved in any endevour

Caldari are good for gang PvP but kinda suck at solo(most of their ships) due to having to use their med slots, where ships would normally fit scrams or EW, for tank, meaning they either have a crap tank or cant tackle. In small gangs however, caldari work as well as any other race.
Ravens are no use in large fleets, due to the delayed damage, but a scorp is a great addition to any fleet, as is a rohk.
