I'm seriously thinking about returning my PS3, the more I see and read regarding upcoming games and additions to the system, it really makes me think that it's going to be a 2nd or 3rd string system for the life of the system.
I was hoping that at least BluRay would be the glue that keeps the system together, but so far, I don't know which HD format will be the real winner of the next gen.
The games that are currently out look like poop, the games that are coming out don't look much better... There isn't a single game coming out for the PS3 this year that I want, well maybe URT3, but I'm not sure about that one either.
The only game that looks cool to me is White Knight Story, but I'm not even sure when that'll be coming out, and is it worth spend $500+ for just one game... Oh maybe two, GT5 looks decent from what I can tell for now...
But a handful of games aren't going to keep this thing alive, it needs more exclusives, and it needs them now... And those exclusive titles need to be A+ games.
It seems like programmers are having a tough time with this system, they also realize that the best bang for their buck is to make games for the 360 and Wii, which will give them a better chance of selling more apps, vs the pittance of PS3's that are out there in the world...
My 2 cents.

There's also that Lair game, the dragon riding thing, supposed to be for PS3 only. Still, you can't keep a system around for just one or two games unless you've got cash to blow. I pretty much agree with everything you said, the PS3 is the least interesting of the next gen consoles to me (and the priciest). As to the blueray aspect, I just don't see the point until the medium takes off more. Like you said, no one knows whether the HD or Blueray will be the king, it'd be like getting stuck with Beta over VHS if you pick wrong. I'm not in a big hurry for either of these, I'll stick with good old fashioned DVDs until the prices drop and a winner emerges.
Well, you could always hold out for the next Final Fantasy installment. Its a long way off, but damn does it look sweet.

I have to admit that as much as I do like my PS3, for the most part it's sitting on my shelf collecting dust. My 360 gets and will continue to get (via Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, GTA4, and Assassin's Creed - I plan on getting the 360 version of the last two) much more use, but I'm not trading my PS3 in. There are a lot of games coming in the future that I want, and I don't want to sell it now only to regret it next year. I do wish there was more to play right now, though.
EDIT: That said, if any news came out than any more killer PS3 exclusives were moving to 360 as well, like say MGS4, I would seriously consider selling my PS3. But that probably won't happen.

What lie are you going to give the store when when you try to pull off this grand larceny?
Or am I completely missing something here. If so I apologize. Does the PS3 have some sort of return for any reason guarantee?
Most retail outlets around here have a return within 30 days policy. As far as I know, that's standard pretty much everywhere.

I very much doubt that legitimate reasons for return include "because I've decided I want something kewler".
Also remember that Sony is not going to be able to resell this product as new, so it will be screwed out of hundreds of dollars on the transaction. And that makes the whole deal seem immoral to me no matter what the return policy may be.
Thankfully, these policies are adopted according to criteria which are not centered around your unique sense of morality.

If he lies about the reason for return, or if he violates the terms for returning an item then that's illegal (and immoral). But give me your address Theodoryk so I can come steal your car. I know you have a slack view of ethics (look up that word in the dictionary if you have to), and that you won't mind a bit.
Though I find your self-righteous indignation to be delicious, I can't help but point out that a no-questions-asked return policy on retail goods has absolutely nothing to do with ethics. Give me your address so I can mail you a clue.

That speaks for all the "next generation" consoles really so far, i had a 360 and only ever used it once cause there were no good games. The PS3 line up is pretty crap until 2008 where it has quite alot of titles i'm interested in but will the be good? The Wii just has nothing ever i'm interested in lol it's just crap basically....
Little Big Planet looks very good for the PS3 and it has Unreal tournament 3 if your PC can handle it and Gran Turismo 5 looks great. That's about all for this year really and i think Little Big Planet got delayed to 2008 lol.

Wow, Pynda must not have any experience with the retail world.
Every item that can not be copied (IE: CDs, Games, Movies) can be returned within the stated return policy. For any reason. If you return it and tell them it is because you do not want it anymore, or that it just wasn't for you, that is perfectly fine. A lot of stores will either return it back to Sony and they in turn will repackage it and send it back to a retailer, or the retailer will sell it as an open box item. Alot of that depends on the policy of the company who made the product. For instance: Bose speakers could not be sold for a discount at all. They had to be sent back to Bose if they were returned and even the floor models had to be sold for full price or shipped back.
Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
Return to Wal-Mart they have a no questions asked policy.
Of course you could just ship it to me and I'll take it off your hands.
Cheers.
Target has a 90 day return policy, that includes video game systems, I have about a month left... I don't have any games, just one blu-ray movie 300, which I'll try to receive store credit for...
Lair has recieved fairly negative reviews across the board for having a crappy control scheme (yay six axis!)
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
Let the ignorant suffer hehehe...
Plenty of games for my PS3 this holiday season, I seriously cannot see how anyone can complain about the selection in 7-8 months time... Lair (Reviews are mixed, not all bad...), Heavenly Sword, Little Big Planet, Folklore, Uncharted, HAZE, UT3, GT5, Eye of Judgement, Ratchet and Clank, and Warhawk will already push my budget, never mind Assassins Creed, COD4, Ghost Recon 2, Jericho and Fatal Inertia... And that is only this holiday season, next year I can look forward Final Fantasy XIII, KillZone 2, Infamous, Eight Days, Afrika, White Knight Story, and those are only the games that interest me... Never mind the NCSoft MMO's that are in development, or the other Multi plat 2008 games..
Hail DnDOnlinegames!
I get a lot of use out of my 360, I love that thing... I've only had it for 6 months, but I've loved playing Gears, Pinata, Dead Rising, etc. And I can't wait for Mass Effect, Last Odyssy, etc.
Plus X-Box live is the $hit!
I've also been wondering how may more exclusives will Sony lose to Microsoft, I can only imagine that the game developers want to maximize their profits, best way to do that is to sell as many apps as possible.
By the way stealing someones car to prove a point about ethics, isn't very ethical. You would have loved being around some of the people from my highschool back in the day. Girls I know that were wearing prom dresses with the tags still on so they could return them to Nordstroms which has a no questions asked return policy, things along those lines. Your head might have exploded.
As for the PS3 debacle, I am not a fan of PS3 or 360 personally, so all I can go off of is what friends say....
They are all feeling the same way about their PS3 almost to the word of the OP. I just hope they are getting fun for their money.

Methane would be posting to defend and uphold reasons NOT to return it, but defending yourself and/or things you have/like seem to warrant a ban around here now. Guess where ive been for the past 7 days.
Anyways, dont think you can just walk into a store and return a $500-$600 piece of electronic hardware, espically after its been opened and used. And if its outside the return policy, usually 7, 10, or 30 days, then youre fucked, that simple. You are better off keeping it, and waiting for a game you deem worthy (which will probably never happen).
It all comes back to the initial action and thought, did you buy it because you wanted it, or did you buy it to be cool? Spending $500-$600 on something trival is not a "forget and forgive" opportunity, you didnt buy a Pepsi but ment to get a Coke, this isnt $1.00 you are trying to get back for nothing, its $500.

Again, Target has a 90 return window, on which I have 30 days remaining... Yes I read the policy before I purchased it, and yes even opened I can return it as long as I have my receipt.
I bought it because I thought I'd like it... and I don't... so I'm returning it.

Regardless, Id read over it again real good just to be sure. Consoles, console games, DVD movies, and PC games all fall under a different policy, and being that you have opened it and used it, youre in a whole different league now.

I have. :-] Thanks for the concern though.
but poop looks awesome! I could respond to this, but you couldn't possibly be a more obvious troll looking to start a flame war.

Try out Warhawk first. It has made the ps3 worth the $600 to me.
Your mind is like a parachute, it's only useful when it's open.

I just got my ps3 last weekend and I'm loving it. I've already sent away for my 5 free blurays and bought 2 more (300 and fifth element).
As for who's going to win the HD war, it's heavily in bluray's favour right now. Sony Pictures obviously will only be putting out blurays. Disney has just sided with them and will only be putting their collection onto bluray. I was in bestbuy today and they now have an HD section for their dvds. There's 1 stand for the HD dvds, and 2 stands for the Bluray dvds. Make of that what you will.
As far as the graphics, at this point I'd say at the very least they are as good as (if not better than) 360 graphics. In addition the ps3 game graphics will be able to improve far beyond 360 in the future, as can be seen in this quote from Valve, talking about bringing HL2 to consoles: "For the 360 version of the game, we can probably say we are using around 93-94% of the console's power given our current optimization. With the PS3, we can't exactly say what power cap we reached, since no developer really knows where the boundary is for the PS3".
Regarding PS3 titles, Heavenly Sword is absolutely awesome. It's gotten great praise from reviewers and if you've played the demo you know it's seriously kickass. Warhawk has been getting great praise as well. I just picked up the box version today (for 30 bucks cheaper than it's supposed to be!! thanks BestBuy error!) and I'm really looking forward to playing it.
Programmers may be having a tough time with the system simply because it's newer technology, a different architecture. It's easier to make a game on the 360 simply because it's the old way of doing things.
As far as number of installed users, the ps3 is definately starting to pick up steam. They are starting behind for sure, but in July the PS3 almost sold as many units as the 360 (a difference of about 5%). Not only that, but the PSP and the PS2 (that's last generation's hardware) both each outsold the 360 seperately. In addition, in Canada the ps3 actually outsold the 360. Considering the backwards compatibility, and the fact that an estimated 42% of all video game playing is on ps2s, you have alot of installed users that have a better reason to move to the ps3 than the 360 when they come across to the next gen systems. Sony is here to stay for quite some time.
As far as comparing the ps3 to the wii, they really are two completely different systems targetting completely different players for the most part.
