Crafting in TR

AtysTraderAtysTrader Member Posts: 63

well I have read the reviews and the previews and they all praise the action of this game.

But the crafting gets mentioned only.. I somehow missed any preview that would go into a little more detail as to how the crafting is going to be implemented... Maybe some beta-testers could share their perspective on the matter?

Sincerely,

Honestly, I'm curious also for probably the same reasons as you are o.O

It's not finished yet neither are the support systems around it hence the lack of info. The combat system is much further along.

Any info you get now will be incomplete at best and mostly speculative. As it gets closer to a state of readiness I'm sure better info will trickle down.

This game holds a ton of promise but there is still alot of work to be done.

agreed with all the above, im quite curious about crafting as well.  I honestly dont believe that there will be harvesting or mining raw materials for crafts due to the fact that there is no safe place for players- the entire game is a battlefield, but then again thats just my contention.   I would imagine that most of the raw materials will be enemy drops if anything, and crafting will only be applied to armor and weapons.  I've never been too big on crafting in other games (it just turns into another type of grind) and i hope that much like the rest of TR, the creators will attempt to design a way to avoid the endless grinds.  I have a very good feeling that NC and RG will work all the faults out and have this entire game running smoothly by or shortly after launch.

wow i didnt see this either

    interesting

is the whole thing really a battlefield

so far thats wat ive seen so maybe thats right and there wont be any harvesting of materials for use of craft....huh.......i know richard garriot wanted to tone down some annoying mmo elements such as repetition and grinding but i mean i dont see crafting as being tedious in any way wat so ever (besides the fact that the mats may be hard to obtain) but i see crafting as totaly optional feature that a player can chose to put time into

    nice post

While there are a lot of battlefields i don't think it's "all" Battlefields.  I've seen videos of people going into little outposts or bases... hopefully there will be actual cities, but we will see.  And as for crafting i do hope it is implemented in a way that is rewarding with little to no grinding... anyone know how to pull that off?

Another Fantasy MMO? shoot me now.

The whole storyline of the game is that most of the human race has been wiped out and that those remaining are doing what they can to rebel against the Bane by pushing forward and setting up whatever fortifications they can.  The front lines are everywhere, which makes it very hard to set up a city without it being a large fortified outpost or base. Basically don't expect to see any parks or playgrounds.

There are many parts of the game that have not yet been implemented, so its hard to say where crafting and economy are going to fit in.  From what i've seen so far Richard Garriot is keeping the focus of the game on first person skirmishes against the Bane, more like a longer, more developed Halo with rpg and massive multiplayer elements.

I'm not in the beta :( so this I'm not sure exactly how it all works, but what I have gathered from various videos / interviews / articles / previews is that you most of what mobs drop is crafting material, and depending on your class / skills you can take that material to a crafting station and make various items including weapons, armour, medkits, explosive charges and grenades, some of which will only be available through crafting.

Hrmm so hard to know how much you can say without breaking NDA hrm.

Crafting is still in early implementation, so no solid info will be found unless it is from a dev who knows stuff that is not in current beta.
