I have heard a few rumors as to what it may be....new empire has my vote-
rumors:
-New tech
-NPC's
-Ninja's ( hence the throwing star preview lol)
-new empire
-alien race NPC ( with possible new maps)
-new weapons
I sure as heck hope its a new empire...that would rock! totally thought the balance of the servers off though. best to implement that with a server merge...( make it so u CAN infact roll a char for every empire on the same server. then merge all onto one server. and add new empire)
if its a good update ill be sure as hell resubbing.. new empire indeed would be awesome but outbalances the game all to hell.. the devs know that so prehaps it is something else.

When you play that video, it sounds like a vehicle driving past the person recording that sound.
But that shuriken style symbol also made me wonder if that elusive 4th empire was ever being introduced...Nah, probably not. :P
Hopefully a new empire and updated graphics/physics!
Maybe even some new base plans and/or changes to planets.
I highly doubt it is a new empire. As cool as it would be i dont think they would do this so far down the line.
I think it maybe something to do with either the swords being introduced for the Fanfare tickets holders etc or the new ship mods or something like that.
Mind you that symbol does look very empire -ish

hehe if you check out the official planetside boards you can see lot of guesses of what it might be.. i'm pretty sure that it is indeed not a 4th empire as i have mentioned before that it would outbalance the game and i don't rhink the players will be happy about this..
Another theory that i saw on the official boards was that it will have something to do with unbending and since almost everyone of the planetside community wants this you could add this to the list

As for the new empire guess. I think its a great idea. not sure its likely..but would work. if they merged the servers, they could easily do this with little worry. yea SOME people will reroll. well...ALOT of people will reroll. But that means they will all be noobs, with lil BR and NO CR... thus the remaining empires with low pops, will have advantage over it. eventually some will get bored and tired of being so low BR they go back to there main.
Besides....SOE would NEVER do anything to a game that is unpopular to the players. so if your worried about a new empire, u have nothing to fear. Just like how they never did anything to us SWG players that we didn't like.

Oh noes it's the Vanu aliens returning home and they are going to find the humans messed up their planet and turned it into an entire solar system. Quick sweep the trash under the rug we need to hide that we threw a party!
Chances are its a new empire but wonder if its too late.
Here is some facts- today PS patched stealth and new vechiles which TR apparently have.
Game Update 3.12.28 - July 31, 2007
An excerpt from a New Conglomerate intelligence report:
"...our infiltrators have returned from Forseral. They managed to steal blueprints from the Terran Republic. We don't know how the TR were able to design it, but it looks as if they are developing a method to cloak a flying transport vehicle. With the amount of energy required to keep a craft airborne, we thought it physically impossible to bend light enough to cloak it as well, but with these designs...it might work. The TR are calling it the "Phantasm".
Also among these blueprints is another design...it looks similar to the Galaxy, and yet somehow different. It's more like a giant battleship than a transport craft. In the hands of the TR, this kind of firepower could be devastating. I do not doubt that the VS spies have also taken advantage of the recent leak in TR security; they probably have the designs as well. We must begin training our soldiers to use this equipment as soon as possible. Our engineers have already started production...we must finish before the opposing factions are able to use them against us.
The strangest thing about all of this is the fact that these blueprints were in TR possession. I would expect something like this from the Vanu Sovereignty, but the Terran Republic are narrow-minded fools that only think of suppression using our current technology. Also strange are these symbols found all over the blueprints; they are like nothing I've ever seen before. Shaped like 3 curved blades around a central hub with cyan coloring...what could it mean..."
Taken from a Vanu Sovereignty science report, only one day later:
"...don't understand. The entire lattice has shifted. Our home worlds, Esamir and Amerish, are gone, lost to the heathens that call themselves the New Conglomerate. And we find our own sanctuary linked to the homelands of our Terran repressors, Forseral and Ceryshen. We can only logically assume they have taken control of the former NC territories Solsar and Hossin.
This change in the lattice can sometimes be observed as a natural phenomenon of Auraxis. The Auraxian system clearly has a mind of its own and has been known to shift before, but somehow...it is different this time. The readings are not the same. Information from our stellar cartography department shows that this time there has been some form of external tampering with the lattice!
We believed ourselves to be the most technologically advanced of the three factions, but after we were given the documents for these new flying aircraft...we must concede that there may be a faction with an even greater understanding than ours...but the Terran Republic? It is hard to believe. We have ruled out that they are capable of such a change, so it must be something else. Could this be related to the symbols on the blueprints? More research needs to be done.
Regardless, the fact remains that we now stand on unfamiliar ground. We can be reasonably sure that this is not the end of these strange occurrences. Something is coming. I can feel it..."
The Terran Republic technical reports are stating that the Phantasm and Gunship certifications can be purchased at local certification terminals however both vehicles are currently being manufactured and there it's been found that some of the supply has gone unaccounted for. As of this report the supply will not meet demands but we have word that the vehicles will available for acquisition within the next week.
Notice mention of the same symbol again.And how NC/VS are shocked that TR could make such weapons since they are the least technological of the empires.
This with the video seems to point heavily to stolen technology.It could either be a new empire coming up that TR stolen from or that the vanu (the aliens)will become present in the game and maybe appear as GMs .
With the currently available manpower the Planetside team has, a 4th Empire is very unlikely. It takes them ages to implement gagets like a new a vehicle (Which most of the time a minimally adjusted model that is already in the game) or gun installations which experienced FPS modders can create in a few days.
The last big change were BFRs, and these failed because they just can't be balanced properly.
i wouldn't rule out a 4th yet.
yea they dont have the man power they once had. but a 4th empire has been on the back burner since before launch. they originally intended to include a 4th empire as an expansion. But due to mostly player feedback, went with BFR's instead cause people seemed to want more vehicles.
when core combat came out, they began to set the stage for the arrival of the mysterious Vanu. releasing hidden caves with amazing new technology...

Really though? I'd guess new empire. Of aliens, though. Its too reminiscent of Anarchy Online (when players first beat the last Shadowlands raidboss a robot used the same line to herald the Alien Invasion expension). Human empires to be merged against Alien threat?

Reading the story lines this I what I predict is going to happen...
TR and VS will be allied against the NC and this new Empire to lead to head on head fights.
I'm on a sucky computer now will copy and paste the pertinant lines from the spy messages to support my bizarre stance.
I would still very much like to see your arguements when u get a chance.
But i'll go ahead and give ya some arguements against why i don't think that would work.
First off i'll refer to this new army as 4th to make things easier...
-4th gave there "secret" plans to the TR. such an advanced race didn't simply get hacked. they purposely let the plans into TR hands. OR had there system hacked by TR and ONLY TR. suggesting its either the Earth TR, or a race who is trying to set the stage for sometihng big.
-in the forum's the unknownsoldier was trashtalking NC as well. indicating that all three empires are "beneath" them and will easily succumb to there might, when they see fit.
-the fact that currently ( excl 4th) vanu is the most tech savvy empire, and THEY don't understand the new plans, suggest that the plans are from an advanced race. they soldier indicated auraxis was his...and we know that auraxis once belong to the original VANU. indicating that the 4th, is likely the original Vanu. If that IS the case...the VS would likely worship them...since they model there beliefs based on how superior the original Vanu are.
-umm...i had more..but i am at work, and somewhat distracted....due to previously mentioned work lol. So i'll stop now and wait to hear ur side...

Bah after reading thru the reports more closely I am likely mistaken and it all points to a 4th empire. An intentional change in the lattice and wargates, not thru a natural shift but something external. The TR obtaining plans beyond their meager intelligence.
I'm hoping for a new launch/expansion but, like everyone else, it would seem that adding a 4th empire will just make everyone go to that empire and mess up the play balance. I would love to see this coincide with an advertising campaign and a reopening of the reserves. We'll just have to wait and see.... pace pace pace
I just don't think there are enough people to support a fourth faction. On top of that, the way they let it on points to this new force being far superior to the current empires. I think it'll be a fourth, but a fourth NPC faction to boost the amount of people in fights.
There is plenty of players to support a new empire...considering they have been talking about server merge for some time now.
Furthermore, some rumors suggest its a new empire that is playable by fan faire members only. which means it will be a tempory threat, they will have more tech then us, but wont over populate, or unbalance the game as its for a short time only.
which also explains why it isn't added as an expansion.
Even if it is a fully playable empire like other people suggest/hope for...it wont be so bad.
many people will obviously play them. But many people wont. think about it..if everyone joined them, it would be a army of BR1 /CR1's. the brave few who stay on there empire will severly outplay them. plus give us a chance to increase or BR and CR even faster.

the bubbles are because we are seeing though the eyes of a soldier waking up in the bio labs underground tubes.
the video starts all black, and someone says "where am i?.."
then he slowly opens his eyes to see a green NC walking by...
then ends.
