I guess you dont have the resources but instead of just pasting press releases onto the news page maybe you could write some news stories based on research, expert opinion, checking facts etc. MMORPG is the only site i use for this genre but recently the quality of the news seems somewhat weak.
Anyway, still love ya

hmmm... journalism is not that hard.
Who, What, Why, Where, How and When.
i will write a simple plan:
1) get press release
2)remove bullshiit
3)use expert knowledge or background research to expand on / contradict what is being said
4)Ask an independent expert or arch rival for comment
5)write it, sub it, run it by legal - publish
If journalism is not that hard and your demanding more articles to your standards, then why don't you just take a stab at it yourself?
BTW - i did and was paid a tiny salary for it for the best part of 5 years

I don't think this site pays any of its writers, or at least not most of them. Its mostly volunteer stuff. I've written a thing or two for the site on a volunteer basis. Probably kind of hard to get people to consistantly put that kind of effort into a story for free...

600,000 registered members and a constant flow of banner ads makes me assume this is a successful website. If you look at other "geek" sites that grew (hexus, tom hardware etc) they have managed to transition from glorified forum to commercial entity. The first step is to deliver good content and that is normally news or reviews.
Not here to bash MMORPG but it seems to have remained prettty stagnant on the content front for a long time (although it looks pretty now).
