RP Community

Hello,

I played SWG back when it was first released (the first 3 months), and it was a time that the role-playing community flourished. Hell, the community in general flourished. People sat back and enjoyed themselves, everything. I was wondering if it was still like that, as I'm interested in resubscribing. Is everyone just AFK dancing and hologrinding, or what? Is there still room to have a good time doing player-run events? How's the money making for non-crafters these days?

Thanks for your time,
Disposition

Lots of people are hologrinding, but that will come to an end with Publish 10 (9 goes live in 2-3 weeks).  I hope that RPing will grow again after that system is removed.  Have to wait and see.

    Hey disposition,

Yea, the hologrind is still around, but it will be completely dead after Publish 10, and is slowly dying off right now. People still roleplay, though it is hard with all of the PvP templates and grinders everywhere. On Valcyn, I am part of a city on Tatooine that is exclusively for roleplaying. Right now Mos Absconsa (name to change soon) is at the metropolis level, and we have a ton of guilds around. Everyone roleplays around there, and we are trying to get more roleplaying done in nearby Mos Eisley. If you do come back, send a tell or email to me (Ibra) and I'll get you set up in town.

I would say that hologrinding will end in publish 9 as the DEVs will be locking new FS slots until Publish 10 comes out.  Holocrons are sold now merely as house decorations! Thank God!

But about RolePlaying...I roleplay all the time in SWG.  Its one of the few that I can do it without the other person saying "??? WTF are you doing?" lol

Like last night....me and a guy snuck behind the starport and I sold him some spice and told him if he got stopped to keep his mouth shut about me.  Last time I did that near the shuttleport in Bestine a NPC storm trooper stopped me and scanned me...got busted for 3500 credits.

Role playing is fun in SWG there's no doubt in that but hologrinding has had an impact on how many people you'll find RPing.  Here's to no hologrind and the return of the golden age of RPing! image

In SWG on the Kettemoor server, there is still a flourishing roleplaying community.  After playing there for months, I have even seen hardcore PvP players come across to "the other side" and participate in RP events.

New Aldera, Talus, is where my character lives, and people there are wonderful and are great roleplayers.  There is a good mix of RP and PvP, as well as patrols for PvE.  Crafters, Politicians, Entertainers, Nightclubs, Dance studios, Weapon and Armor Shops, Clothes stores, etc. are all abound in New Aldera.

Travelling to some other roleplay cities around the galaxy, I have found great communities.  Mos Mescric on Tatooine is among my favorites.

I have been away from the game for a while, but I have nver experienced a mmorpg with so much roleplaying as I did when I played SWG.  I am eager to return.

Kettemoor is the unofficial RP server and, while not the server I play on now all the time, it still feels like home. :)

the grind will be there after publish 10. people just wont be "hologrinding" theyll be "grinding my jedi quest".

itll just be a different kind of grinding.

yes there are still role players on a lot of servers. i play on starsider. the rp community is there, but there isnt like bartenders hanging out in cantinas anymore serving stories to take part in as well as drinks. most of the role players actually participate in a lot of pvp that is out there, at least on my server. i mean, to participate in the galactic civil war is role playing unto itself right?

if you decide to come back, give starsider a look and hit up the city of rauha on naboo. almost entirely role players.

that brings up another point. if you come back you may be a lil confused as to why most npc cities are empty (mos eisley, keren, etc..). thats because everyone is a little more segregated into their own player cities now. theed on naboo is always buzzing tho (dont have to wait for the shuttle at the starport there), as is coronet on corellia (center of the galaxy, can go just about anywhere from there).

hope this helps. im having fun w/ it. but as with any mmog, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. never ever ever complain about an mmog you play. itll force you to hate it over time.
