Hi,
I've posted this over on the tech support forums too, but was wondering if any of you have a solution to this problem.
I just downloaded the full client (6.66 gb installed), and installed the game. I hit the ryzom icon and the loader comes up. It gives me the option of install and repair. Regardless of which I select, it goes to "Congratulations, Ryzom is installed" with a check box saying launch the game now (which is checked). I hit okay and the launcher just disappears and nothing else loads or happens. It just quits.
I've tried disabling both my router firewall and my Windows XP firewall at the same time and the program still acts the same way. I can't get past the launcher.
Any suggestions?

KSEA players often seek out PVP in a game, but they are looking to socialize with and form alliances with other players who are interested in doing the same. They often seek out guilds or clans that organize formal PVP events, or work on group strategies and tactics.
Problem I'm having is for a few days now since I installed the trial, the login server has been down so I've yet to actually see the game.
I was in beta -- or, rather, I tried to be in beta. I was one of those afflicted by the mysterious "black screen" bug early on, and none of the patches ever fixed it on my machine so I gave up after a short time. Couple years go by and I'm curious once more, and I still can't get in the game...
I don't think the login server has been down, and it certainly isn't just now. Could it be that you've a firewall blocking your login? There is a stickied note in the Tech Support forum that detail the channels which should be opened. Also, be sure to use the latest installer from the Ryzom site - the game servers all moved at the end of January '07 so older installs will be trying to find the servers at the wrong address. Again, there is a stickied note in the Tech Support forum which explains manually editing the config file for the correct address.
I just installed and updated Ryzom a week ago, so I'm sure I have the latest. I'm pretty sure I got it from the Ryzom site too, the filename matches anyway, but I'm not seeing that sticky post anywhere mentioning manually configuring the server address.
Update: If you mean the bit about StartupHost = "rslogin.juk.shards.nevrax.com:40916"; my client_default.cfg already had that line.
I forwarded the ports in my firewall, I even put my rig in DMZ, I can't connect. Every time I try to login I get "Error: invalid server return, missing return code." Searching the Ryzom forums, the few posts about that error all mention the login server being down. But I have a hard time believing it's been down a full week or more.
In my experience, it's very rare for the Ryzom servers to be down at all, so it sounds like something between you and the servers is interfering. Do you get a ping from rslogin.juk.shards.nevrax.com ? You could try running a tracert and send the results to the CSRs. Post on the forums and you'll get far better network advice than mine, too
Yeah I ran a tracert yesterday too, worked fine. The game even updated itself fully when I first installed it, so it's getting a connection, it just refuses to login to let me play.
Here are two announcements from Marjo. I hope this information helps.

Patch and server merge on Wednesday, May 2nd
We will patch the live shards next Wednesday. As a result we will close the shards from 8am to 12pm GMT and Cho won't be reopened. The content of the patch is what you have been testing on the ATS since April 24. Read this news for more information.
We will move Cho characters to Arispotle in the same time and apply the rules described here. This specific Cho operation may take a bit longer than 4 hours. When we'll reopen Arispotle, even if you will be able to log on this server, you may not be able to play with your ex-Cho character(s) yet.

Re: Patch and server merge on Wednesday, May 2nd
Good news, the patch is scheduled for tomorrow Thursday 3. As a result the live shards will be closed from 9am to 11am GMT.
To former Cho players: you will notice that you aren't in your guild anymore. This is a side effect of the merge that will be corrected with tomorrow's patch. Please do not recreate a guild or join another one in the meantime.

i'm having the same problem, did it ever get solved or did you just give up?

i hope not. I played this game a while back and i wanna return... don't wanna go crazy tryna fix it tho
Try http://forums.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30677 or use the live support tool (Klients - you can find the link in the tech support forums)

"the" (ex-)spriteh
If you suspect the firewall, and enabling the right ports doesnt work, the first step is to disable the firewall completely, and see if it connects. If it does, then something is mucky with your firewall.. if it doesn't, then its not the firewall
-----
Edit: I see you already did a trace.. i'll leave this here for other people trying to figure out their own issues: try tracing to the server address - start, run, type cmd, press ok, from the prompt type "tracert rslogin.juk.shards.nevrax.com" - if that times out (let it go til it stops, even if it times out on a few hops sometimes the trace goes through unroutable space (internal network space that is not reachable by the internet) and then picks up again. If the server doesn't respond to the trace.. possibly you have a routing issue with your isp, or one of the isp's between you and the server.
------
You can also try doing "telnet rslogin.juk.shards.nevrax.com 40916" from the cmd prompt - if that can't connect then you can't connect to the server.
If it does respond, then you know the server is reachable, and its likely something with the client - which is where you'd get help from the ryzom tech staff directly..
I gave up. After 3 months of trying, no one offered any help on the official forums, no one could help in the Klients channel... in the end, Ryzom was just taking up space on my hdd since I couldn't login.
