What Entropia Universe is about

Greets everyone

I've been reading many threads about how good or bad this game is, and so on, from both novices and apparently experienced players. I've read some good stuff, but a lot of it is based on a lack of real analysis, equating Entropia entirely to a massive casino and so forth. Often from people who have spent considerable amounts of money trying to get anywhere in it by the lure of making money. This post won't cover graphical quality and so on, as essentially the main feature of this universe is economics, pure and simple. That's also why the main epitaph of the game is 'It's not a game.'  Play it like a game and you lose.

There are several points to be made really. First of all, the average age for this game is someone in their mid-thirties. To play this game as a shoot 'em up etc is to really miss the point and  lose money. The universe is structured around the concept of a virtual economy, and many players who do have some spare capital to inject into it, do make money. In fact, this really only reflects real life. The older you get the more likely you are to play wisely. Long term players who don't inject a lot of money, understand that they cannott make great leaps forward - that their trading simply pays for what they need to buy in terms of materials or ammo etc - for them Entropia is like a toy they log into. And they may or may not strike it lucky in terms of winnings. But if they don't have the credits built up, they sit and wait and buy and sell.. Like in real life, working toward that holiday instead of putting it on the credit card. : )

So people who are complaining about this game being a con miss the point. It's somewhat like playing a blood thirsty shoot 'em up and saying, now where's the strategy? Decide the kind of game you want to play and make sure the game has those things you want.

My experience of EU is that there's actually a really interesting array of people who log into it i.e. a great community. Those who walk the course seem to usually have something between the ears.

But what about the winnings of the winners being at the expense of the losers? People might complain about that, but that is true of real life as well. It's an economic fact that the way to stay rich is to keep  the poor in poverty. So if players find that that sucks, maybe they should also consider the wealth they have, sitting as they are in front of nice computer with time on their hands. And ask the question who'se losing out? Ok, this wasn't meant to be a digression into socio-political comment etc, but you get the point. Entropia Universe reflects real life in that way too. And communism was always doomed to failure.  : /

So Entropia Universe is for you if you want to explore a world which really is exploring the boundaries of virtual reality, and if you don't mind slow progress and tactical play. You will find it frustrating though if you want to be able to develop at great speed etc or make lots of money from nothing. Like in real life, you can rarely do that.

Seems entropia keeps expanding its components which incorporate more possibility of individuality - such as the ability to upload one's own art etc.

My favourite thing about it? Probably the music and the endless landscapes. Also that it's based in a pseudo scientific environment without all those spells and magic wands that bore me to tears

My least favourite thing about it? Sometime when you log into the 'game' and onto a spot where there's  bunch of other avatars present, you end up on the roof of the building. Ts!

Hope that helps some you who've got questions about it.

    nice post.

i've been playing entropia for almost two years and i absolutely love it. yes, i've hit a big loot and yes i've infused some coinage. but most of what you say is true to the experience of the game.

everyday, on entropiaforum.com, i saw such a post today, some new mmropg player that has found entropia drawn by the allure of striking it rich logs in and posts for advice on how to make money playing the game, how to live off the game as a job, etc. etc.

well, while my avatar is getting there in terms of skills and my gear is far from mid level, i am able to profit. but enough to live on it? if this is what you're looking for, you better live in a country where one dollar usd goes very, very far. and if that is your only goal, don't bother.

other than that, the game is a truly fun experience, with a great community of dedicated players, and that rare high loot will make you fall off your chair. it did me. if you're curious, it costs nothing to try it out, come join us.
