need help making my avatar.

this picture is 8kb at least thats what the avitar editor says how do i make it smaller (not like centimeters smaller but data smaller) so i can get it in my avatar? please help.

    I remember when I was a mod in a forum I used to respond in the same minute. A few times even before they posted.

    As in set it as an avatar?

    1. Click 'My Profile' at the top of the page.
    2. Underneath Profile: <yourUsername>, click 'Avatars'.
    3. Browse for the file locally, give it a name, click 'Upload'.
    4. Click the 'Options' link, find the name you gave for the avatar, click 'Save Changes' at the bottom of the page.
    Voila.

    yeah that no work it still says its over 8kb and i need to shrink the data size not just image size.
