A couple questions about this game

Hello, I played Shadowbane an eternity ago in beta. No offense but I'm surprised to see it still around. I was considering trying out the game but I had a couple quick questions.

First, do you enjoy the large scale pvp? I've tried pvp in alot of mmorpg and found it incredibly boring and tedious. I think it was because I had to grind incessantly before I could do anything. Will I be able to have fun at lower levels in pvp or just get destroyed instantly?

Second, the sneaky type classes. Do they have a role beyond backstabbing things? For instance, can I do things like stealth and provide combat intelligence for my guild, or climb walls into an enemy city to look around, or murder another player through surprise if I prepare correctly and am good enough (perhaps inside an enemy city?). I'm excited by the notion of a rouge class in an all out pvp game, and possibly doing all kinds of cool rogue/assassin things.

I'm away from home but I might give this game a shot when I get back, thanks for any info.

Yes the large scale pvp is what this game is all about, there's nothing else like it in any other mmo (yet). Not much of a grind in this game, there's very little and you level pretty quickly cause this game is about guild battles not grinding/pve. Yes you can have fun at lower levels as I'm sure you'll be in a guild (you really can't survive well without one) by lvl 21, and you'll have higher lvl guildies to protect you and show you the ropes. The community is very good here because it has to be, cities (guilds) are always at war or declaring alliances, good communication is what wins the day.

The "sneaky" classes can be used as spies and what-not, because they do have stealth skills and invisibility, which means you can attempt to "murder" enemy guild members. And yes you can sneak into enemy cities and spie, but that is hella dangerous especially if its a powerful guild.

You should give this game a spin and see what you think. Remember your first 20 lvls is spent on newb island hunting monsters, developing your skills, and getting your specialised class.

Here's a guide to help you out. http://ubbforums.ubi.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=playerguides&Number=2491248&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

  • Thanks for the link.

Can you suggest a server? I don't know if there's an official RP server, but I do like to RP. I especially like this Temple of the Cleansing Flame :)

If you like to roleplay, then Vindication is the way to go. You can read about it on the website. Make sure that if you want to join the temple of the cleansing flame you must meet the player character race requirements. There should be info on that in the guide.

Is there still horrendous lag in large battles?  There was for me a couple years ago.  I quit then because it was just a slideshow in big battles and I couldn't really do anything effective.

    MMORPGs are virtual skinner boxes.
