Out of the 4 classes you are choosing between, my personal favorite is the Phantom Ranger Sliver Ranger.  Silver Rangers are also pretty good because of casting speed. Phantom Ranger's I am guessing have better damage per hit though. Not exactly too sure.

As for servers, all are pretty similar in terms of best for new players because all have new player buffs plus all the high clans are recruiting low level players for academies.

The servers with the most population are Bartz, Siegehardt, Kain and Teon with Hindmith and Lionna not far behind. The only real choice there if you're coming in cold is Teon or others, as Teon is the "euroserver".

Overall there is not that much difference between any of the servers at low levels, since the average player level is around 55+, and most of the beginner towns will most likely be empty or populated by alts/rerolls.

There is no such thing as a "good" class. All have strengths and weaknesses as well as a role. Some are easier and some are harder to play.

Some roles are not commensurate with others (ie not balanced) for direct PvP confrontation. For eg DD's will generally have no probs dispatching a buffer or healer as their role is not offensively postured.

Silver Rangers (SR) and Phantom Rangers (PR) are not melee, they are ranged DD classes and quite distinct from melee DD's.

The Warlord is a melee DD class but more specifically it is a melee AOE class. This means that it thrives in situaions where multiple foes present themselves in their frontal arc. They specialise in polearms which offer them a significant advantage in this form of combat.

The Sword Singer (SwS) is a hybrid DD / Support class and infact its more support than DD. Their DD potential stems from their songs which benefit them and the group they're in. The are not a "true" melee DD per se as they lack specific active skills which characterise pure melee DD's

The melee DD classes in the game are as follows:

Orc: Destroyers & Tyrants - Destroyers are 2h specialists in heavy armour, Tyrants are fist weapon specialists in light armour.

Human: Gladiators, Warlords and Treasure Hunters (TH). Gladiators are dual sword heavy armour melee specialists, Warlords as mentioned earlier are polearm heavy armour specialists. TH's are a "dagger" class specialising in light armour and other "sneaky" things

Elf: Plains Walker(PW), arguably Swordsinger see comment above. PW's are the light elven (LE) equivalent of TH's.

Dark Elf: Abyss Walker (AW), Blade Dancer similar to SwS but is more offensively focused and makes a good DD in contrast to the SwS. The AW is the dark elven (DE) equivalent of TH's.

Dwarf: Warsmith, Bountyhunter - these guys are again hybrid DD's due to their unique dwarven skills, so probably not the first choice for a pure DD but they have some "tricks" up their sleves which you may find more to your liking.

WRT to looks well L2 is the game for that,  as to what you perfer looking at .... only you can answer that.

Welcome to L2 and good luck :)
