Warlock or Hunter

XeratixXeratix Member Posts: 130
I was choosing between these for weeks, and i still am. Because they are both overpowered!

But:

Warlocks, Are magers that have pets.

Hunters, are melee fightes with a bit of range.

Bad points:

Warlocks, Run out of mana fast

Hunters, Very bad def and melee

When chosing a class it's not only about the class which is most imbah, it's also about which u will prefer to play as. I myself would say that Warlocks are the hardest class to play, but are very good in PvP, and can deal massive dmg at max lvl. Hunters are the fastest xpers and are generally very easy to play. Hunters won't need to come into close combat if they are skilled so therefore the low def and melee dmg compensates.

I would chose hunter if it's ur first class, and warlock if ur a mature player who aim to become imbah.

Ok. But there arn't really much races to choose from. I would usally.....well....doesn't matter which race. I would go to Stormwind at the end anyway. So which race for Warlocks have te eaisest quests.

Or in other words. Which race can lvl the easiest?

If you are going to roll a Lock, go Human. Perception helps see stealthed characters, which is really helpful in pvp situations, and Humans get a rep bonus as a racial trait, which comes in very handy when you are say trying to get Naxx attuned or buy a mount.

If you want to progress quickly, play a Hunter. My first toon was a Paladin, by far the hardest class to level in the game soloing. Hybrid classes always are. But my second 60 was a hunter, and wow did that go much faster.

As far as hunters not being able to take damage, why would you have to? The right pet can take all the damage for you. Plus if you play the class well, you won't pull agro off your pet - and if you do, feign death for the win, drop traps, etc. Locks don't have this ability. An argument can be made for fearing mobs, which is fine, but can hurt you more than help in the wrong spot. Plus Locks are squishy cloth wearers, and hunters can wear mail.

So, dual wield agi / sta weapons and range away while the pet holds agro, or blow thru a ton of mana and hope your pet lives... No brainer to me, Hunter is the way to go. It's a matter of choice I guess, and either class has its pros and cons, like Locks get a free mount. But for my money and the ability to kick ass, definitely roll hunter.

Play an undead. Alliance sux anyway. :P

The fullhunter helps you seeing rogues, so you don´t need the human skill.

But Will of the Forsaken is very nice to abort fear and other similar effects.

And cannibalism helps you reducing the amount of food you have to take.

Convert HP into Mana and then eat the next corpse lying around. -> Mana & HP Full

I would say that Hunters are definently the best...it doesnt matter if you are a experiend or noob player...hunters can take many mobs or players while warlocks only can fear 1 and do nothing about the other..

btw..play night elf cause they can use steal and that can be officent vs all classes

Cant stand Hunters, if I had no choice, I'd go Warlock.

Warlocks don't lose mana fast, unless you're an idiot that messed up your character.

I would go warlock - hunter is just useless

Warlock - after lvl 50 you can opt for an insanely powerful pet - the one with the huge battleaxe.

fear kiting - heavy dotting - lots and lots o' dmg.

A warlock is nothing like a mage by the way - a mage doesn't fear kite or even have any sorta fear in their arsenal.

Mages vomit magic at enemies untill they die - have no fearing spells - only dmg

With a hunter you can choose what kind of pet you want.  See a "cool" beast in the wild, tame it and it's yours.  Plus the various tracking they get can be rather helpful.

Locks aren't really mages with pets.  The lock deals sustatined damage while the mage deals 1 shot damage.  Remember as a lock your mount is free at level 40, though at 60 the epic mount is costly and long to acquire.  You only get the "insanely powerful pet" IF you spec fully demonolgy, which will make you dependant on your pets.

The way I look at it is if you to smoke a bowl and play just using your mouse be a Hunter way easyer to play! (trust me I have a lvl 56 Hunter...lol). But I do also have a a lvl 64 Warlock and although it harder to play that character "high" I find that in pvp I can kick a hunters ass 8 out 10 time!!

go hunter and spent talent points in marksmanship and get aimed shot

u pick a tanking pet (i use bear) and you use hunters mark, cast aimed shot while ur pet's charging the target, hopefully itll critical hit and cause serious damage, if it doesnt youve still done a lot of damage, then u spam shooting skills like arcane shot and if the target ever looks like they might engage you in melee you cast concussive shot and try to kill them b4 they reach u or take as much health as u can then u finish em of with melee . i personally like dwarf bcoz i like to use guns and they start off with gun + they get +5 gun skill.

erm and dnt locks hav worse def and melee? also hunters get mail at lvl 40 meaning they are joint 3rd best defense with shaman and only pallys and warriors having better def, even though good hunters dnt need armour in most situations bcoz they should stay back and shoot from a distance causing high dmg.

EDIT: hunters are considered the best PvE class but they are fairly decent in PvP, they have been known to 1 hit KO cloth wearers with aimed shot

I've been playing for over a year and know perfectly how to play it in PvP. But then i started a warlock at TBC release and i'm having the same fun! The fact is playing a Warlock is better for getting invites to raids!  The advantages with Warlock is that you can kill people without needing to stay near!  Just drop a few curse and DoTs on the target and run away! hunters must use more strategy as freeze trap and other stuff!

My recommandation would be warlock! easy to play, nice skills and habilities + great potent with the last patches/expansion improvement.

You might not of played a hunter upto lvl 8, hunters are veru much range>range>range>melee, at lvl 8 you get to a tame a pet(s), and that keeps your target at range, hunters should aviode melee as much as possible.

Don't know much about locks do you?   Warlocks can easily handle multiple mobs.   Back when I was playing WoW I often fear juggled three or sometimes four mobs at a time.   Honestly Locks can handle multiple mobs better than hunters.

Sure you can, of course you will most likely never even make it to the gates of SW. ;)

If u can avoid the patrolling guards u might be able to se SW for a few min.. I doubt u can stay there very long though..

Yes.... Hunter can tame, thats for sure. Also you can mend your pet.

But..... The Warlock can use Fear, and curses.

Say Warlock vs Hunter.... This is how it would start

    1. Warlock would use FEAR, then straight an instant curse. while the pet is attacking

Then the Hunter would be running in fear, while having a curse on him plus my pet attacking.
As soon as he comes back use fear again.... hel hit u once in the time you cast (quik cast)

Make sure. WHilst all this is happening the warlock is also attacking too

Now ive definitly changed my mind that......Warlock owns!

For having a 62 hunter and a 40 warlock I can tell you that they are almost the same on PVE!

But the warlock has lot more ways to defend himself! You can drain mana from your pet, multiple fear, use sacrifice when using voidwalker, use charm when using succubus, use spell lock when using your felhunter!  The best way to kill a hunter when you are a warlock is to take succubus out, charm the pet and fear the hunter. Then you start DoTing and watch him die in pain!

Otherside now! With hunter you can try to stay at far range but it mightnot work! First you set a freeze trap at your feet to freeze the warlock pet if it comes to you. Then you use your Viper Sting (well..the one who drains mana) on the warlock and then use the super combo : Aim shot - Concisive shot - Arcane shot - Multi-shot!  If the warlock didnt used a potion//healthstone between those, you should have gave him about 3k dmg in no time! just start casting em again and it a win!

I personly love my hunter...i have a 70 hunter and a 70 warlock.....both are fun. But in terms of servivablitiy the hunter is alot better....warlocks are no slouch either though

They are both good. Create one of each and play them until around level 25 to get a feel for the classes. Then choose.
