I plan on activating my account today (March 28).
I know that they start charging at the beginning of every month.
My question is, does that mean I'll get charged 12.99 for playing for 3 or so days?

no you won't. you get a 30 day free trial then when it expires you pay. then every month you keep paying unless you unactivate your account.
