"The Pirate Bay" is looking to buy their own country

The Pirate Bay has announced its plans to buy the nation of Sealand or another small island. This country would destroy copyright, intellectual property, and trademark. The official site is located at buysealand.com

http://www.buysealand.com/

ACFI is a group of people working for the peoples right to it’s Internets. We have made progress in Ladonia and are now working on the Micronation of Sealand.

Recently it was made clear that this country is for sale. To make sure the owners will be kopimistic and that the country won’t be governed by people that do not care about it’s future, we have come up with a plan.

With the help of all the kopimists on Internets, we want to buy Sealand. Donate money and you will become a citizen.

We’ve set up a forum to discuss how the country is supposed to function.

— It should be a great place for everybody. With high-speed Internets access, no copyright laws and VIP accounts to The Pirate Bay, press officer of ACFI says.

Register and let us write history together.

Plan B: If we do not get enough money required to buy the micronation of Sealand, we will try to buy another small island somwhere and claim it as our own country (prices start from USD 50 000).

Just by donating to the Sealand cause will get you Sealand citizenship.

Any questions you may have regarding Sealand will most likely be answered in the links below. If your questions directly relate to The Pirate Bay's cause in relation to buying Sealand, please ask on the official PirateBay's buysealand.com forums.

    (infofrom the wiki)
1.The Principality of Sealand is a man-made off-shore installation named HM Fort Roughs (its similar to an oil rig.)
2.Sealand's claims to sovereignty and legitimacy are not recognised by any country.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sealand_fortress.jpg thats how big it is.

Whole thing (buying a "country") is just a publicity stunt by Piratebay & "Sealand" is a joke itself.

Their idea is genius. That country would be  the wealthiest nation in the world in 50 years time.

Ever see the movie "The Mouse that Roured". Even if this country doesn't make money, they can still declare war on the United States. We would set up a puppet government, establish a military garrison, and subsidize their country. That is, of course, unless they launched a successful sneak attack and managed to grab a nuke from us. Then they'd be a world power with responsibilities.

Long live the Duchy of Grand Fenwick!

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but BBC News reported  that a Spanish estate agency has put a price tag of £504m ($986m) on the 'island'. I don't see how Pirate Bay could possibly receive enough money from donations to buy it outright.

Already did before I posted. Its just a rich family (that gave themselves royal title, real classy) & that lived on it for a while.

But nothing of that (or anything they have done so far) does not actually make a "country", nobody has acknowledging them as a country (& nobody will because it smaller than an actual oil-rig).
This entire "independent country" does not even qualify for "rich extravagant behavior", its just plain stupid.

    lol

986 million is a little more than their pirate bay outlook of 50,000 lol.

    Too bad.

Ahh....it wouldn't have become a country anyways.  Its already broken 80% of all natural laws as a prequisite of becoming a soverign country.

Sounds like some Tech Geeks came up with this idea while smoking some of Dad's pot.  Neat idea but by the time you flew over there to the parental nation with 50K you all would have been kidnapped, force to wear pink dresses and be their drug warlords' slave biotches until you died.

why does it have to be an island?

cant they buy some land in the US declare their independency and strike from the heart?XD

only turndown would be that they would have been surrounded by "the enemy"

well they  could buy land at the border

so they would be something like luxenburg in europe

besides that i doubt that it would last long

some unofficial guys would come over and set things right...

You can declare whatever you want, but unless other countries recognize your sovereignty it doesn't matter. A country built entirely on the idea of breaking the laws of others will not be recognized by those other nations. Simple as that.

I am guessing whoever originally came up with this idea was stoned and most of the donattions cmoe from unsober people. At least it is a different twist on a scam.

While it may or may not be a recognized country, it is sitting in International waters. It's not under any laws.

darn, I can't participate less I revoke my US citizenship by becoming one else where.  such a shame.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Because unrecognized "countries" have never been invaded when they break other's laws...

If they allow access from areas where people are breaking laws there will be a backlash in some form. It could be It could be as little as tarrifs or other financial pressures or removal of their "government" depending on what they did. It doesn't matter what you call yourself if no one else agrees. It is like giving yourself a nickname, it never works.

Very true, but check this out.

On 1 October, 1987, Britain extended its territorial waters from 3 to 12 nautical miles. The previous day, Prince Roy declared the extension of Sealand's territorial waters to be a like 12 nautical miles, so that right of way from the open sea to Sealand would not be blocked by British claimed waters. No treaty has been signed between Britain and Sealand to divide up the overlapping areas, but a general policy of dividing the area between the two countries down the middle can be assumed. International law does not allow the claim of new land during the extension of sea rights, so Sealand's sovereignty was safely "grandfathered" in. Britain has no more right to Sealand's territory than Sealand has to the territory of the British coastline that falls within its claimed 12 nautical mile arc.

The fire in June proved it couldn't survive independantly and was dependant on fire services from England. Since then The question is since England built it in entirety does it have its own shore and is part of England still (Essentially only selling the right ot build on the land, not to govern it. Much like the government selling any land/building to a private group.)?

The fire started its fight for sovereignty all over again and we don't know the result yet.

Isn't it beautiful? The plan is to moor boats and tether structures around it to turn it into a modern day Waterworld.

    lol

    waterworld

There's a reason why the British Engineers built the fortress that high up in the first place.  Take a guess

Also, what are your plans now since a Spanish Realistate company has a bid on the island for 900 million dollars

The firm, Inmonaranja, has put a price tag of 750m euros (£504m) on Sealand.

I don't think they intended to buy it, they said "has put a price tag of 750m euros". It sounded like they were just valuing the property.

Who wouldnt want to rule their own country? Oh wait their claim as a country isnt even recognized by the U.N., wouldnt that make them a rogue government? Illegal stuff and lawsuits ahoy!

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

I'm surprised Britain hasn't fired a stray missile or six by total accident and sunk this place.

While most countries don't even recognize Sealand as it's own country, if the people from TPB actually did buy it, I think that would seal the deal on the remaining countries and they wouldn't recognize it either. Have any of you read the "Legal Correspondence" on TPB? While it's absolutely hilarious, I'm not sure any country could take them seriously.

Edit: Oops, Seaworld is owned by Shamu... I meant Sealand....
