Question about soloability

Deathstrike2Deathstrike2 Member UncommonPosts: 1,777

Hi again!  I have a question that I'm hoping you can help me with.  I recently started playing the game, and my main is a level 14 Dark Elf fighter.  Right now, he is pretty good, but after reading some posts here, I'm wondering if a fighter is the way to go if I intend on soloing a lot.  I've read the spell howlers are the best.  Is this true?  How soloable is a fighter?  If it's doable, what class should I go into as a dark elf fighter?

I am asking because I don't want to get too deep into the game and suddenly discover that I'll need to reroll as a mage.  I'd rather just reroll now if that is the case.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.

Both types of dark elf fighter can solo, Blade Dancer and Shillien Knight. However, you may or may not like the speed that they solo. I've seen Blade Dancers mow through mobs and I've tried a lvl 74 Shillien Knight on the Test server so I would say that Blade Dancer is faster at soloing given my limited exposure to both.

I have a spellhowler (about to be stormscreamer in a day or so) and they solo extremely well BUT it is made much easier with at least a lvl 1 version of "Empower" as well as casting speed potions.

Without that empower (which you can get from another player, another account with a shilien Elder or a scroll which is very expensive) it will be a bit slower as you will need to find mobs that con green that you can 2 shot.

I wouldn't worry about it. In the end you will find that soloing anything at higher levels is rough. Any kind of support will make your life a lot easier. So even if you roll a mage you'll still level faster in a group enviornment at higher levels. Realisticly, the majority of your xp will be gained in parties when you are at higher levels anyways, unless you get out of party buff bots.

If I remember correctly, you are using L2 as a stopgap for Conan. the difference in leveling speed is huge in my opinion. You can solo through the whole game, having an out of party buffer is extremely helpful or being in a clan with a clan hall is good too.

The leveling speed is truly ridiculous at high levels. Essentially, as a gladiator, I woudl say one of the faster leveling melee classes i'd do decent ni terms of leveling, but an archer or mage would get almost twice the xp if not more per time block then I would.

I played the game six months, hit lvl 70, and quit, had I been a mage, i am sure I would hvae hit lvl 75 or if I had been an archer even. So I think it matters a great deal, then again, is your goal to level up quickly or have fun playing your character? I had fun with my gladiator, but at the same time, he got boring because I played him for too long.

At this point, I just want to have fun.  My plans are to try out Conan when it's released.  I'm really hyped about Vista and Direct X 10, and I plan on buying a NVidia 8800 before Conan is released (woohoo for birthdays!).  Anywho, in L2, I don't care if I'm level 50 or 75 as long as I'm having fun.  I'm not antisocial or anything, and I like to group when I can, but with my schedule, sometimes that happens and sometimes it doesn't.  I just don't want to be sitting here in 3 months and find that my choices are group or nothing.
  • At level 70 soloing with any class except a summoner (and maybe a fully buffed archer) is not worth it at all. However I doubt you will ever make it to 70.

My spellhowler (stormscreamer) can solo well at 76. Though they have good mana management. Add the mana herbs that drop and I can go a long time. I think Necromancers can do well. And like you said, summoners do very well.

  • I haven't played since the mana herbs came out. It used to be that spell casters were aweful at solo because once you were out of mana you were forced to sit for a while. I forgot that they added those.

True, but once Necros and Spellhowlers start getting higher levels of body to mind it is much easier for them.

It's the spellsingers and sorcerers that really get screwed.

Spellhowlers are the FASTEST solo characters. If you get into a clan with empower clan buff, then you are set and ready to go.

But like you said, you don't care if you are 50 or 75, and that you just want to have fun.

So it depends. Lots of people find nuker type classes boring, and some do not. You will get mage parties and for sure get into some pvp parties if that is your thing at higher levels if you go spellhowler.

As a fighter you can always go Phantom Ranger, although there would be better choices for rangers that should be ok soloing, but not like a Spellhowler. A Blade Dancer can solo pretty well if set up with some expensive gear, and of course have a pretty good chance in getting parties.

The only nukers that can solo after 62 really, are the necro and the spellhowler. The other classes definately need a Shillen Elder for recharges, esspecially the Spellsinger.

Right now, hit up a Dark Elf Mage. See if you like doing lots of damage. Play it a ways. Then choose between your fighter and your mage.

A Spellhowler will level the fastest and be most efficient at soloing.

A DE archer will be alright but still not as good as the spellhowler. So if range is your thing I would recommend mage.

Otherwise if you want a DE melee, Blade dancers can be pretty good too, but expensive in order to get good gear to solo well.

In the end, all classes can solo except for Pure support classes, such as your prophets. But it is a matter of what you enjoy playing, and what will level fastest. If you have the Spellhowler's playstyle you will be leveling fast but it will seem slower leveling then lets say for example, a class that is actually slower but enjoy the play style tons more....

Hope that helps. Because it is highly based off of preferance.

And yes, Spellhowlers are the fastest and most efficient leveling class in the game.
