Ok...I'm gonna play your game! (again)

I played briefly back in 04 (at launch).

Bored out of my mind and intrigued by the little fay guy blinking in the EQ2 ad, I opted to purchase the expansion today before I left work.   So I restarted my station account (for one month) and installed the Game (from scratch).   Now I'm downloading patches... and get this... The auto patcher estimates patching will be done in... EIGHT HOURS!   (on cable internet).    Aye Carumba.

Was kind of hoping to be able to jump in an hour or two before bed but doesn't look like it.

Are these 8 hours of patches patches introduced AFTER the expansion was shipped?

If not..I have to ask:   Why can't they include this stuff in the client dvd's?

Look forward to seeing you guys in game...

Sincerely,

I had about two or three hours of patching after I installed from the boxed version.  Like you, I wondered where all of this data was coming from, and I even wondered why they bothered with discs in the first place.

The only logical explanation for the large patch time that I could think of is that the boxed version includes Kingdom of Sky and Desert of Flames.  So while some of the content being patched is almost certainly for EoF, most of it is likely for the other expansions as well as for the base EQ2.

I don't know if that's the case, but it seems to make sense.  There are only two discs in the EoF box, after all, and those two discs couldn't possibly hold all of the content for these three expansions as well as for the base game.

If you bought the digital download version then I don't know wtf their problem is.  Short of the patch happening just a day or two ago, there's no excuse to not add the most recent patch to a digital version of a game.

I did purchase the game box (dvds x 2).

The patching actually ended up taking  about 3.5 hours.   After patching the big red glorious "Play" button was active and I clicked it  but promptly got an error message stating that there was some issue with my account information please try again later.

So I closed the window and restarted and quess what...I'm patching again.

Edit:   After another brief patching I'm playing again.

I already had EQ2 and the Desert of Flames expansion installed. When I added the EoF key the download was less than 1 hour.
There was a patch a few days (maybe a week, can't remember exactly) before EoF was released though that was several hours long.
Then there was Live Update 30 and there were issues with that patch. A lot of people had the patcher say the update would take 27+ hours but there were some posts on the Sony forums though that said if that happens to click the word Cancel that is under the Updating button and then click the word Download and then the time will adjust appropriately. I had to do that a couple of times but the LU30 download ended up being only 15-20 mins or so for me. <--- Not sure if this would apply in the case with the long download times some people have been posting here, especially if you didn't have the game installed previous to EoF.

    THANK YOU!!!!
its said 9 hours for the last few hours

i did that and it finished in about a min

I did manage to play an hour or so before bed yesterday.    I found playing my lvl 12 that I abandoned back at launch was a bit confusing so I started over.

One thing I noticed that had changed was the system where if a player attacked a mob you could not help him kill it unless he gave you permission (something people rarely did as they were dieing).    Definately a plus there.

LOL, saying Echoes of Faydwer doesnt add much to the game is more then enough proof that you have absolutely not a single clue about everquest2

hate to do a rehash here, but you have no clue what you are talking about...there is so much content added, plus 50 more achievement points for your specific class. on top of a new race, and a complete new set of areas to level from 1-70 (20+ new zones, and one still in the works, called the estate of unrest). its basically a whole new game by itself. since you only played the trial though and cant get off the starter island, you wouldnt know any of that would you.

I have not been playing that long (only since Oct.), but I like this game. I have enjoyed the new content added with new beasties to kill and a new race to kill them with.

To those who don’t like the game mechanics, story, ect…an expansion probably will not make the game any better for you. For those of us who do enjoy the game it is only icing on the cake.

The patches are a pain, but I have seen the same thing when I went back to SWG and WoW after extended breaks. I guess it is the nature of the beast. I do think that SOE is a little more patch heavy than other games but oh well.

I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.

    I have a question...

I'm suprised that names that should be taken aren't aleady...OR..  does the game allow for more than one of the same name per server?

    Thanks in advance...

    There will be more (questions)!

nopes, duplicate names are not allowed on 1 server, offcourse the same names can arrise on different servers :)  have fun playing!

EoF sure looks pretty, but its also the reason I left the game (I did buy the expansion btw).  You see I'd built up a level 70/70 character despite not having a teriffic amount of time to play compared to the real hardcore players out there.  When the EoF expansion came along, as far as I can see I had a stark choice if I wanted to get up to an uber level again.  Either I had to spend an age working my character up through the new AP levels, or it would probably be quicker to start a fresh character.  Frankly I havent the time to do either.  If I had the time to play the game I would have stuck with it as I love it, but I dont have that time, which puts me in the position of an also ran, hence I quit.  Since quitting I've kept in touch with a number of old guildies, and it looks like Im not alone in my reason for quitting.  Personally I think SoE got the balance wrong, targeting the game too far towards the hardcore, giving the less time-rich players no chance to keep up.  Maybe if the mechanics had been evolutionary rather that revolutionary I would have stayed.

If you form your own opinion and don't listen to trolls your better off.

350 + quests, 20 zones, and one in the works, new collections, new writs for all levels, new heritage quests, new dieties and specific abilities for each, cloaks, 2nd earing slot, 50 more AA points and new abilities for the new split in specific and base class tree.  New combinations for crafting and completing armor sets, new race, and an incredible starting city, plus a new option for starting city for some races.  Two new crafts.  Some new zones have specific personalities such as Loping plains and its night time curse.  Getting to the new areas involves more than just clicking to zone.  There are boat rides, and travel distances are longer, which puts adventure through experience back in.  There is probably more I am forgetting.

Your better off getting the boxed version if you haven't played in a while because it has all of the expansions.

As for the update time, SOE has stated that they have received an unbelievable response to the expansion, resulting in slower DL, even now.

My server population has seemed to have doubled over the past summer, then exploded after the expansion.

Despite my previous post about commitments (ugh. Next I'll be discussing a Tom Hank movie) and time constraints, I realised that after tomorrow's exam and another CPD [career professional development] exam at the end of March, the next unit starts in September.

In other words, aside from my Mandarin commitment, I will have time to play EQ2 - on a casual basis i.e. an hour or so a night; a few hours at weekends. Placed the order for the boxed version inc. all expansions for a princely sum of £14.99. Just need to buy a DVD drive for my Pc before the weekend.

From reading the posts on SOE's overhaul of EQ2, and the acclaim of the new expansion pack, all of my resistance and will-power crumbled as I was seduced by Norrath's charms once more, after quitting EverQuest back in September 2002.

All things being well, I should hopefully see some of you in Norrath this weekend - if you're on Najena or Antonius Bayle (leaning towards Najena, at this moment in time).

    Regards,
    Riotgirl

Welcome back.  EoF does bring a lot to the game IMHO and well worth a look but I imagine a heck of a lot has changed since your last visit here.

The game is a lot of fun and certainly better (for me at least) than what I have personally seen offered in Vanguard which (in my opinion) is only a slightly more complex version of WoW and bored me senseless.  EQ2 has that little bit more about it (in my opinion of course) and can only improve as more of the old EQ content comes back into the game.  KoS is fantastic and as I've said I'm really enjoying EoF.  Kunark next?

EOF DOESN'T ADD MUCH????!!!! ARE YOU INSANE GODPUPPET????!!!! Or did you just play the trial?

6 new zones (ranging from level 1-70). Several new dungeons and instances, as well as raid zones.

A new starting city; Kelethin, high up in the trees of Greater Faydark.

The Fae. The best (and possibly most fun to play) race in the game to date.

2 new secondary tradeskills - Tinkering and Transmuting. Tinkering makes new rare items. Transmuting makes adornments to improve your armor & weapons.

Class Achievements added. Tweak your character's traits even more.

Guild cloaks. Wear your guild colors with pride!

Deities. Pray to the god of your choice for added bonuses and spells.

Tons of new loot. Including several class-specific armor sets. Collect a complete set, and you gain extra stats and spells!

As for the patcher problems, well I think SoE are just to lazy to upgrade the discs and downloads as they make new patches. It's much easier (and cheaper) to keep the file the same since it's release, and get the consumer to download any updates. Unfortunately the new EoF patcher has had its fair share of headaches. If your patcher keeps telling you your update will take hours, cancel and restart and till it says something a little more palletable. It will shrink!

Currently returned to Norrath after disliking Hyboria.
