NWN2 Need Help

I just got NWN2 yesterday and just finished installing it now, just launched it everything was smooth till i got in game. At this point the game is VERY laggy and choppy to the point where i dont want to play it. I have  a duel core AMD  proccessor 4200x2, 7200 nvidia geforce 256 card and 2 gigs of ram. Do i seriously need to upgrade more to play this game?

    anyone know?
  • Hmm it sounds like there is something wrong with your software. How often do you visit pornographic websites?

2/10 for effort.  Honestly, my computer has no viruses barely anything on it plus I do scans once a day and it comes up clean every time. this computer is almost new, there is nothing that could be wrong with it. any other suggestions folks?

i don't have the game, but i can suggest you check your drivers.A new computer means nothing really. It could have been put together quite some time ago and be using very old drivers.I believe you said nvidia ,they update there drivers quite often. It may even be the server to wich you are connected is over populated and lagging bad.Look around the net to see if there is any program or a built in proggy that displays your frames per second. If the fps are below 30 at any time then i guess your graphics drivr/card needs to be used on lower settings. If your ping in/out connection to the server is real bad say over 400 then not much you can do except complain to the company running the servers. That is one thing i have never liked in computer software>>>there is such a lack of regulations, that your basically screwed once you open the software package. There should be set laws where as the provider that is more than willing to accept your money for a service, had better well make sure the game is playable to you at a decent connection speed. If they can't provide a viable connection then it should state this on the package.

If they know there servers are all in say japan for example ,they have no business taking money from north americans, knowing fair well that they wont have a viable connection to actually enjoy the game. This is even worse in a PVP based game where pings and connection mean everything.

I would recommend checking out the nwn2 website because they have a whole section for tech issues surrounding this game - and there are quite a few. In my opinion this game was made for the computers of the near future (which might not be such a bad idea given the modibility of the game). My computer is mid level and I can get it to run, but it is pretty clunky and all the settings are as low as they can go. However, I do like it and don't regret buying it. The story, imo, is very enjoyable and I love d&d (but not DDO). Anyway, I would check out the forums over there (not that here is bad) because there is tons of discussion on your subject. Good luck.

Are you playing the Official Campaign or a persistent world? Persistent worlds can be very laggy due to the fact that the server cannot handle the player load.  I'm running a AMD64 3500+ with a 6800 ultra 256mb and 2gigs pc3500 ram. I only have problems with the Official Campaign on the highest settings and have shadows turned all the way up.  Try updating the game and see how it works.

Yes, I am playing the Official Campaign. I have to turn all the settings down for it to be playable, but when i do this the graphics in the environment mess up. Is this normal for my type of computer? AMD 4200 x 2, Nvidia 7200 256, 2gigs.

PS. I have just updated my drivers.

For me, turning the shadows off helped a lto to reduce the lag, I suggest you try that first.

Did you update to the latest directx version?
  • Shadow4482Shadow4482 Member Posts: 230
I did that, but it doesnt change the fact my graphics are going completely whack. I just installed DirectX 9, no help. I have also defraged my hard drive, ran virus + spyware scans, my computer is clean. Any other suggestions?

How good is your Video Card? How much stuff do you have running in the background? I haven't kept up to date on recent hardware releases but my 6800 Ultra does fine even though it's 2 years old. Your system specs seem to be better than mine and I'm running the game just fine. Possibly you are needing more top end Video Card?

Maybe you didn't turn some OPTIONS down, I know I have to go back 5 times to turn stuff down before I find it acceptable, and I was still lagging somewhat.

i am reading now my vid card isnt compatible with this game. does anyone have any suggestions on a possible vid card around 200 dollars thats decent?

Ah ...I seriously miss the days when games sorta worked well.

I feel for your pain.  I have a video card at work that is lower than yours and it works like a charm.  I was dissapointed with the game in the first place.  I never did finish the campaign.  I was too let down by it because NwN was so enjoyable

GForce 7200?! Check your card again and give us the exact model of it. Did this come with the computer? It could very well be an intergraded card (built into the mainboard) which would mean it's gonna be hard to play any modern games smoothly.

Before you run out and buy a new video card for your computer, you're gonna need to figure out what type of card slot you have. Check the detailed spec of your computer, if you don't know where to look, let me know and i'll assist you.

A good place to start looking for a new card and price shopping is Newegg.com

oops, sorry guys its a 7300. its still not compatible with the game as the read me says tho, anyone have any suggestions on what a decent upgrade would be for about 200 dollars? my cpu is compatible with PCI-Express, PCI, AGP.

I would save an extra $100 and get a card thats a bit more expensive!

Check out these cards, not TOP END but still upper end. These are PCI-E 16X cards. Make sure to goto the manufacturers web page and see what kind of power supply is required.

Goth listed some great cards there, good choices.

If your like me and always on a tighter budget, here are a few cheaper ones that should do fine, all though, they are not "cream of the crop" by any means. Keep that in mind when choosing a new card, as you get what you pay for.

It's very strange. I'm playing smooth with a GeForce 6200, shouldn't be complatible either. I heard NWN2 had some issues with dual core processors, I have a single core HT. Why don't you use theyr support? If you payed for the game, you have all rights to use the official support.
  • VolkmarVolkmar Member UncommonPosts: 2,501

this might sound obvious, but it worked for me so... have you updated the game itself? there is a nice button for it on the main menu, if you have't DO IT!

NWN2 was awfully bugged when it got released and one of the problems was awful technical performance even on high end systems. with the third patch, things have improved considerably and now i can play decently enough with lots of options on while at release i couldn't for the life of me bear it.

The compatible card list doesn't mean yours won't work just because its not on the list. You need to turn everything down thats eating up your cards bandwidth  and see if you are getting at least 30 frames per second. If you still are not then try overclocking your card ,since you have nothing to lose if you plan on upgrading anyhow. As long as you are getting 30 frames per second you will be fine and problems after that are from a different source. The game will tax your harddrive if the video card isnt enough, but still you can achieve a playable game.I remember way back when unreal tournament came out 90% of the players all had the same voodoo 3dfx card an played with 20 frames per second. My point is that 90% couldnt play the game properly but all soon learned to turn everything down and change setttings in the game .ini files to make it playable.I am sure there must be a few gurus in NWN2 that know how to mess around with the settings/.ini files to get yours at least playable.Hate to see you spend money you might not need to.

    Hi

Its your gfx card that unfortunately lets the other high end spec components of your machine down. The 7300 is an absolute garbage card for any games. Its a proper entry level card.  Sadly no drivers will improve it especially with nwn2 which is very gpu intensive, kinda like oblivion.

Try turning some things off in your options, that might what causes the lag. The game already have great graphics, so you don't need more. Turn off things like shadows and reduce the quality of graphics to around medium.

I am having this same problem. I have updated my Nvidia and the game itself. I have rather high end stuff; nothing crazy, but more than enough to play just about any game up through oblivion with just about everything up to full and little to no lag.

But this game, even with every single graphic option turned all the way down or off, I am having serious FPS issues. I'm talking about 2FPS, or less, and after about 2-5 minutes in the game, I get the blue screen of death.

I love DND, and I loved NWN, and so I was understandably quite excited about this game. But this is more than a little frustrating, and is really turning me off to it.
