BALANCE?

First thing I thought when I saw this game was balance!?  I recently quit WoW, im sure you do not need an explanation, and havve been looking for a new MMO (free trials).  On their website there seemed to be more warnings about character gimping than made me feel comfortable, for the most part it seems like L2 with a twist, which i do not mind.  But 3 teams and tons of sub classes, is each team equal and stand the same chance in wars, are some classes just not as good as others (phantom summoner lol),  Is there any subtype that just gets owned by everyone?  I want to know these kinds of things from somone who hsa played before i get myself involved.  If this is going to be a game where if you arent on a certain team you will never win a battle or never lose, count me out.
