KRYPTEIA: A Guild of Guilds [NOW RECRUITING!]

KRYPTEIA
AN AGE OF CONAN GUILD

“The strong do what they have the power to do,
And the weak accept what they must accept.”
                                                                        - Thucydides (5th century BC)

GUILD NAME: Krypteia

GUILD LEADERS: Arakian and Zasheir
SERVER LOCATION: North American Server (though players from all time zones are welcome)
LAST GAME: World of Warcraft – Draenor
PvP/PvE/RP: The guild will focus on PvP and PvE. We are NOT a RP guild, though RP squads are welcome to join, with the understanding that the rest of the guild may not be RPing.
RESOURCES: Website / Forum /V entrilo (100) + individual squad channels / DKP / Chat / More!
RECRUITMENT: visit our recruitment forum.

QUICKY DESCRIPTION:

We’re mainly a PvP guild made up small groups (or Squads) of friends. Our decentralized guild structure allows each squad, made up of as few as 5-10 players, to have access to the benefits of large guild membership without having to sacrifice the special character and comradery of a small guild. While our core membership tends to be serious PvP gamers, our loose guild structure is flexible enough to support PvE and RP squads who may wish to join for access to end game content, crafting bonuses, etc.

GENEOLOGY
:

Krypteia
literally means ‘secret thing’ in Doric Greek. The term describes a coming of age ritual used in the military state of ancient Sparta. Select youths would be chosen based on their merit for service in the Krypteia. Armed with only daggers these youths would be sent into the wilderness surrounding Sparta, where they would lie low during the day. By night they would descend on Sparta ambushing and killing unsuspecting members of the servile helot population. It was a policy of control through perpetual terror, and for some three hundred years it worked.

It is in a similar spirit of small party PvP that Krypteia was conceived. Our goals are simple: to dominate the world of Conan and to be the terror of our enemies.

GUILD CONCEPT – A GUILD OF GUILDS:

The Krypteia guild concept is built around the understanding that most of us have a core group of family members and friends (both real-life and in-game) who we spend most of our online time playing and grouping with. Unfortunately, the realities of MMO gaming demand that to stay competitive and access certain game content, you must be part of a large guild. Krypteia seeks to be a guild composed of a loose collection of smaller guilds (what we call ‘squads’). Each squad will be treated as an autonomous entity governed by its own squad leader. If the guild or its cities are threatened, it is expected that squad leaders will bring their squads to defend guild interests.

WHAT KRYPTEIA OFFERS:

A BIG GUILD FOR SMALL GUILDS – Krypteia offers all the benefits of inclusion in a large guild, including the ability to engage in large scale PvP and access to endgame content, the benefits and security of well organized and defended cities, a large pool of players to go to for help and advice, internal resource/crafting markets, etc. – While not forcing you to sacrifice the unique identity and character that made your own small guild special.

A REAL VOICE IN THE RUNNING OF THE GUILD – Krypteia will be governed by an assembly of squad leaders, in which decisions will be reached by vote, with each squad leader getting a number of votes equal to the size of his/her squad. This means that each member of Krypteia will have a voice in the running of the guild through their squad leader.

PvP DOMINANCE – At its core Krypteia is a PvP centric guild. We truly believe that having small tightly-knit groups of players who have spent a lot of time gaming together is a decided advantage in PvP. The ability to break large engagements down into smaller squad skirmishes will give us a major tactical advantage over our enemies.

GUILD COMMUNITY – Although we respect the autonomy of our member squads, we will try and foster a sense of guild community through inclusive guild-wide activities (like squad vs. squad tournaments). In addition, when your own squad members aren’t online, members will be encouraged to group with other squads to further bolster a sense of community. Also, individuals will be selected based on merit to be class specialists, and it will be their job to help mentor less experienced players in the finer details of playing their class

COMMUNICATION – We will provide a VENTRILO server for our guild with private channels for each squad. We will also be setting up a website with a forum which will contain subsections for each squad.

AND MUCH MORE! – As is obvious from our guild structure, this guild will really be what you, our members, make it. The potential for the guild will only be limited by the imagination of our members.

RULES:

THE GUILD IS AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE GUILD. Put simply, we need to be able to understand each other, so understanding English is a must. However, this doesn’t mean that you aren’t free to speak any language you prefer in your own squad’s VENTRILO channel, or in your squads forum section. Just make sure you are able to understand English commands, which will be often barked out in the heat of battle.

WE EXCPECT OUR MEMBERS TO TREAT EACH OTHER WITH RESPECT. The only real rule at Krypteia is that you have to maintain a level of maturity in your dealings with other players. We will not tolerate behaviour that is abusive or disrespectful to other players. Offenders will be referred to their squad leaders for disciplinary action, if the squad leader fails to take action or the behaviour continues, it will be sufficient grounds for removal of the offending player or even entire squad from Krypteia.

THERE ARE NO OTHER RULES. Individual squad leaders are free to govern their squads as they see fit. Any rules which might affect the entire guild will be decided upon by an assembly of squad leaders.

RECRUITMENT:

* Updated December 2006 *

We are currently recruiting all races and classes.  If you would like to form a Krytpeia squad and have at least 3
members already, you can apply directly as a squad.  Individual applicants can either be recruited directly into squads by squad leaders, or they can be recruited into the guild as squadless 'hypomeiones'.  This is a temporary rank which will give you a prohibitionary 6 weeks to get to know the members of the guild and run pick-up groups with established squads and other squadless members.  After the prohibitionary period, these recruits will be expected to either join a squad or form one with other squadless members. Extensions to the prohibitionary period may be granted on a case-by-case basis. For recruits, recruited before launch, the prohibitionary period will only begin with the official launch of the game.  Please visit our
website for more information.  If you are interested in joining Krytpeia, apply by responding to the appropriate thread in our recruitment forum. Please try to answer all questions in your application to the best of your ability.

Recruitment is now open.

Stand tall in the front rank
And fear not the number of the enemy
The darkness of death should be as welcome

as the light of the sun.

Im afraid those commands dont quite work as they should here

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

"Krypteia offers all the benefits of inclusion in a large guild, including the ability to engage in large scale PvP and access to endgame content,"

So you allow access to the endgame content eh?  Are you some type of programmer or mod in game?  (I'm just busting your stones)

Good luck, and let the best guild win.

    Important Recruitment Update!

We've introduced a new way for individual recruits without a squad to be recruited into Krypteia.  Individuals without a squad, can still be recruited directly into any squad by a squad leader, but can now additionally be recruited into the guild without a squad.  Squadless recruits will be given a temporary rank of 'hypomeiones', under which they will be given time to get to know our membership and run pick-up groups (PUGs) with established squads and other squadless members.  After a probationary period of 6-weeks these recruits will be expected to either join an established squad or form one on their own with other squadless members.  Extensions to this 6-week period may be given on a case-by-case basis (for example, if limited playing time during this period prevented the recruit from running many PUGs).  For players recruited pre-launch, the probationary period will begin with the official launch of the game.

Because this rank is supposed to be temporary, our squadless members will not have any representation in General Assemblies.  Only by joining a squad and becoming a full member (or 'Peer') can you have your vote count in Guild Assemblies (your vote will be cast on behalf of your squad by your squad leader).

Note on etymology: the term 'hypomeiones' is a Spartan term that described Spartans who did not belong to a mess.  Only by belonging to a mess could a Spartan become a full citizen or 'Peer' and be given the right to vote.  The mess, like our squads, consisted of a small tight circle of friends who would fight as a unit when Sparta went to war.  For convenience these members will likely be referred to as the "squadless" or "hypo's".

    Why are we doing this?

We realize that because our squad sizes are capped at 10, and because so much of your gaming experience as a member of Krypteia will revolve around your squad, Squad Leaders are reluctant to recruit any new members into their squad who they haven't gotten to know very well in game.  We think this is positive as it functions as a quality check, preventing our guild from degenerating into a mass-recruitment guild.  Still, we understand there are many quality individual recruits for whom our previous recruitment policies may have presented an unfortunate barrier.  We think this present solution will help facilitate recruits finding the perfect squad for themselves, and squads finding the perfect recruit, while maintaining the squad focused character of our guild.

You guys really have it together, dont' you? You already have your game plan set, and and are in progress for creating a guild. You guild leaders actually played WoW? And were on the server Draenor? I don't really want to change the topic on the Conan forums other than Conan, but my main is on Draenor coincidentally.

We stopped playing WoW a long time ago, but we've still got some friends on Draenor!  Did you play Horde or Alliance, Anney?

Even if we build walls, like the Spartans, our real walls are going to be our soldiers, 'every man a brick'.

hehe, I know I was just quoting a famous story about the spartans.  A visiting king, who had heard that Sparta had great walls, looked around and could see no walls; so he asked his host, "Where are these walls about which you boast so much?" The king of Sparta pointed to his bodyguard of magnificent troops. "These," he said, "are the walls of Sparta, every man a brick."

You're right that Sparta didn't have any walls (at least during the period of history in which it was a polis of any significance).  Sparta did however erect walls later some time after being decisively defeated by the Thebans at the second battle of Mantinea (362 BC).
