I Love LucasArts but...

WOWIE. I found this video of LucasArts president Jim Ward via Joystiq.  What a pompous, self-serving messianic wannabe twerp. Criminy.  He not only is the savior of LucasArts, that sick sick company prior to his ascension, but he now styles himself as the savior of the games industry as a whole.  Earth to Jim Ward...

So, I'm just saying, I back tracketh and say: with this bozo at the helm, SOE is not the total baddie in this whole thing, couldn't possibly be.  /pats John on the head, sorry John.

Thanks for the video link, although I don't share the same opinion. Just sounds like another salesman to me, promoting themselves. Although I do think showing the footage of SWG so much kinda hurt him a bit :)

Jim Ward is taking LEC down the toilet.  He insists that deadlines NEVER be missed, even if it means releasing an inferior product.

There are three things you can have in software development, but you can only pick two:

    1. On Time
    2. Low Cost
    3. High Quality

"We're no longer just the Star Wars company"

It's funny Jim Ward says that; in the early 90s some of LEC's best games were non-SW. Anyone remember Sam and Max or Full Throttle? A few years ago sequels were planned but later cancelled.

Haha LucasArts fanboi's, you guys can't believe they would do anything wrong because if they did you would have to boycott them and then would never be able to play another Star Wars game again.

You guys are the ultimate fanboi's.

Yeah, I loved the monkey island series save for 4...it wasn't as nearly as good and seemed to be just hyped up and phony feeling (ie one of the advertising features pertained to funny jokes and "scurvy-inducing 3D" - 1) the game broke with its MI roots with the 3D gameplay and controls (made it feel like a 3rd-person shooter without the guns and targeting) and 2) Who advertises about their product's witty humor? When you get to that point you -know- its not as great as previous titles).

Monkey Island 4, although as decently fun as it was (up till the end...that monkey kombat, especially the final part of the game felt like it came from left field and was hastily and shoddily put into the game), was like Rocky V to the Rocky series...

Who the hell are you?  What the hell are you talking about?  Go troll another forum.
I haven't bought an LA game since before NGE went live.  I AM boycotting both LA and SOE.  Next time, try getting your stories straight before spouting off ridiculous generalizations.  People will think you came from the SOE forums if you keep that up.

Come to think of it....I haven't bought any LEC games either in quite a while....

And won't either...All they get from me is the finger, and the satisfying "ARR Matey" when I play their games

Did you reply to the wrong thread or something? If you even bothered to read just the thread topic alone you would know it isnt about kissing LA's ass. Also your general use of "fanboi" makes me sick.

He has no gaming experience prior to his elevation from some marketing role which he was originally bought on board for to promote the new triliogy. His past success stories include the promotion of microsofts windows 95 OS in particular choosing the rolling stones song "start me up" as the main theme for those commericials. That being said hes more then proved him self as an ass clown when it comes to the gaming industry. I'm sure if he was head of lucasarts gaming division at the time of the NGE  he must have had a major hand in it and its push to live regardless of what Smeg head and his band  of merry men say. Someone from LA had to have said change the game its not making enough money and that person will have to have been Jim "ass clown" Ward. He places profit a head of quality and finish and that is a doomed road to go down thats why alot of games they have made so far since hes been on board have not really had the finish of many of the classics Lucasarts have pushed out in the past. He should stick to what he knows and thats marketing not gaming.

Im guessing this jim ward person never played such lucasarts classics as full throttle, day of the tentacle and sam n max. Back when lucasarts poured their hearts and souls into their games.

Kotor 2's premature release was probably his handywork too.

I have no problem boycotting "Lucas" at all. Same as I dont Sony.

Unless, and untill they repair the damage done, they get no $ from me.

I liked the "sandbox" aspect of SWG, more than the "Star Wars" hook anyway. So if a similar game, or at least one with a "world concept" behind it comes out, I believe I just might be tempted to try it. For a couple of years anyway.

Been thinking about Vanguard & STO. Both have SOE hooks involved.  ( One way or another )

Don't know as if I'll try or not,.....

I always loved this saying.  I have made my opinions on Jim Ward's ramblings well known on this forum as well as on SWGs forum.

You know what really needs to happen one day in the software industry?  One day, a software savvy executive needs to stand up to blowhards like him and insist that no changes to the project plan be made after the project begins unless the deadline changes.

I've done that numerous times and now I am self-employed.

I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever :)

Please don't forget to mention the Combat Upgrade and NGE while you are at it!!!!

    I could not resist, Pirrg.

If your boycotting both, then obviously my comments were not directed towards you. They were only directed towards the people who boycott SOE or Sony in general and not LA.

So you got your panties all bunched up over something not even directed towards you. Your a clown.

No I didn't post in the wrong thread. Look at the post above my original post. You will see this person said he didn't know who to blame so he will just blindly continue to blame Johnny boy instead of putting equal blame on both parties involved.

At least someone understood what my point was about putting equal blame on LA and SOE. Sir I applaud you.
