What is your favorite/Most common messenger you typically use?

I figured it would be good information for us all to know what other MMOG players use. Maybe it will give others a reason to switch to a certain one or even add a new one to their list of IM's.

If you happen to use multiple IM's and it is not a multi-IM program like Trillian or others, then just choose the one you use most frequently or choose "Other IM - Not listed".

For those of you that don't IM at all, or use only voice chat like Ventrillo, TeamSpeak or other Voice chats. Please just pick "I only chat in game". I know we could also do a comparison of IM vs. VC but that is another poll altogether. I am just wanting to see here which IM is used most often in the MMOG community.

If you like, post your comments and maybe a list of the IM's you use, listing from most favorite to least favorite.

Lets keep this thread active so all that drop by will see it and add their vote as well.

It would be nice to see which one is the most popular used by the MMOG community.

PS. If you use a IM that isn't listed here, please tell us all about it and provide a link. You may help your favorite IM out by providing a path for new users.

Peace out!

I agree that Google is doing Great things and is starting to put Yahoo underground. But I don't see what they provide for free that Microsoft doesn't provide for free?

    Hotmail and Gmail...both free.

MSN search engine..or Google search engine...free

Google Talk and Windows Live Messenger....both free

Google Earth or MSN Virtual earth...free...

Tell me something that Google provides for free that Microsoft doesn't?

Sounds more like a "I hate Bill Gates being rich" envy. Sometimes I think people that talk crap about a company like MS is only doing so to somehow get this " I am computer literate" title on themselves.

BTW, I don't know where you get this idea that Google existing is scaring the shit out of Microsoft. MSN search engine wasn't the top dog anyway and only threat Google really posses is to Yahoo. I don't think I see a Google OS coming out anytime soon. If they do, awesome. But I still don't thiink if they ever did create an OS that it would be a worldwide spread of OS dominance unless it did some major breakthoughs that made not only WinXP look like childsplay, but also Vista and Longhorn. Eventhough if that ever did happen I totally doubt that would be free.

im not disagreeing with you at all.

but google scares microsoft because this reason.

every decent freeware like open office is supported by google and freeware scares microsoft.

not to mention gmail works better defintely then hotmail and yahoo, and argueable better then outlook.

and the fact is they make all their money providing only free services. where as microsofts free services are supported and could only function with cash from sales of windows, word, and other programs.

google can support freeware with freeware.

if they sold their own OS which rumors are flying about their developing one it would be a bad blow to microsoft like its never seen

AIM and Ventrillo. Teamspeak is pretty, but Ventrillo is clearer.

Nah, I totally don't believe everyone uses AIM. Infact ICQ was originally the best and had the most users than any IM out there. That is why AOL paid over 8 MILLION Dollars to buy Mirabilis's ICQ. Infact now AOL made it so you can add AIM users to ICQ and not the other way around.

I have been using ICQ ever since it was in beta back in early 90's and I sitll use my 6 digit UIN to login to ICQ. I have only met a few others that use AIM and even they have a ICQ account. Most people that only use or have AIM as their default IM are AOL users and a lot of them rather use a different IM.

If anyone is going to out do ICQ it will be Xfire. Infact Xfire was just resently bought out by MTV (Viacom) from founder Dennis "Thresh" Fong (World Champion of Quake) and Mike Cassidy (former CEO of Direct Hit) for over 102 Million bucks. IF any IM is going anywhere it will be them. I am surprised we don't even see a Xfire plugin for WoW. LOL

I use Trillian to tie together my ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, and MSN accounts. Sometimes I run Skype and/or Google Talk too. I know Skype is voice, but it has text chat too, so I use it like an IM program sometimes.

I use ICQ and more then 80% of my users on my list are from AIM.  I personally like ICQ the best.  It does everything I need it to do without all the annoying noise, ads, flashing crap you don't need.

Well, obviously you are a AOL user or that you use to be one. Most people that have AIM users on their list are/was a AOL subscriber. The polls on that already have been done over at C/Net years ago and it is still prevalent when you ask most AOL users.

Another factor is that... The major reason why AOL purchased ICQ was because ICQ had not only more users than AIM, but there were 3 times as much people using ICQ than there were AOL subscribers. It was AOL's attempt back in 1998 to get more AOL subscribers through ICQ. Which a lot of us Anti-AOL users called it the AOL 8 million dollar marketing scheme. Yes, a lot of old friends I hade on my contact list left ICQ just because of that take over. Now they are spread out through Google Talk, Yahoo, MSN and other non-AOL messengers...To a lot of us back in the early-mid 90's AOL was considered a non-techie internet newbie ISP, and still is. Most of us would go with direct ISP's instead of being a Asshole OnLine to be behind firewalls and port blocking services that didn't let you do half the crap out on the net as you can with ramp-up ISP's.

I have been using ICQ ever since release. I have 348 friends on my list that I have built up since then and only 12 people on my list are AIM contacts and 2 of them, even though are AOL subscribers, don't even use AIM or any other messenger. The only reason why I even have them on my list is that since they are an AOL user and have a screen name, when they go to login to AOL it auto logs them into AIM everytime. Which they happen to be related and I have them there for emergency reasons only since they don't like to use IM's. Long story but a typical very old people paranoia of course.

So when you tell me that 80% of your contact list are AIM users then you are telling me you met most of them through AOL chats and group lobbies. You can't tell me that most of these contacts you just met on the net and that eventhough you use ICQ, you added them as a AIM contact because that is their preferred IM. The statistics already have been proven that ICQ still out numbers AIM users eventhough AOL owns both. Because now since AOL owns ICQ it brought AOL users to ICQ and not the other way around. Why do you think they ported ICQ to add AIM contacts and not the other way around?
