You know what? SWG pre-CU was just like childhood: you had fun, you got along with everyone for the most part, you met a lot of friends, and it ended abruptly. Seriously, the EMU servers and whatnot will never be the same as any experience you had before with the game.
Face it: it's gone and it's not coming back. You will not meet up with old friends or have the same productive atmosphere you did in SWG. Just one of the many reasons is because it's not run by a professional company who can repair bugs and give new quality content (JTL, vehicles, mounts), regardless of quality or reliability.
The EMU servers will not give you the same satisfaction you had with the original SWG.
Just keep those good moments in the past as your personal memories and cherish them, do not embrace them. It will cause you more harm than good.
Let it go, there will be a better game.

You're welcome
.
I sick of the griefing, to be honest, thought I'd make a thread that could get to people.
Guess it didn't, eh well.
Don't know what you're getting at. My thread is just as legit, if not more so, than this one: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/88058
SOE never tried to fix pre CU or CU.
Everyone who played knew what needed to be done to fix them. They didn't listen, they were hellbent on beating WoW, when instead they should have been hellbent on beating the # of subs SWG had during it's pre-CU peak by making it BETTER than it was then.

SOE didn't indeed, do you think a bunch of hackers can? They can resurrect it, certainly, but how long will the novelty value last after you've done what you already experienced in pre-CU during it's life under SOE?

Good question and its one that only I can answer for myself. Tell you what, when I reach that point - I will let you write back and let you know. From my SOE experience, the current threshold was a few years. SO I figure maybe that much until I get a lobotomy and decide to overwrite the system files with a pokemon emu and call it an NGE.
I agree that the NGE sucks, but the EMU servers are not the answer. Give it time, and there will be a better and more interesting (legal) game solution.
I would say the same for the baby approach to you pre-CU fanbois. You felt betrayed by a friend because he stole your favorite toy and destroyed it. Now you have your toy, returned in pieces and beyond repair. You still want to play, pretending it will give you the same enjoyment it did once before.
Tell you what? You play whatever game you enjoy and we'll do the same, okie dokie Dr. Phil?
I can tell you that I have had more fun playing Pre-cu over the past few weeks and chatting on EMu forums with pretty much every person that I used to play with on the SOE servers....Even Tells are flying back and forth in game now, So yes, I will meet up with old friends and guildies, our community has already been created...we're all just waiting for our home to be ready....each game is what you make it. and ours will be just fine thank you.
You may be proving his point. If Linux was truly that great, it would have replaced Windows on the desktop by now. You and I might think Linux is wonderful, and I do, but it somehow does not inspire confidence enough to take over the market. Not everybody knows how to recompile a kernel to get what they want out of it. Bottom line: LINUX LACKS POLISH.
But, calling SOE professional stretches the truth as well.
I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever
I dont see what "not run by a professional company" would change
SWG Main hasn't been run professionaly yet
As to grey area... wasn't that settled with UO YEARS ago?
SWG: 3 years, 3 game systems, 28 publish systems, 2 chapters, 0 smuggeling

if you understood linux at all, youd understand that its simply not just an operating system. i could probably type out 30 pages of reasons why its a hell of a lot more than just an operating system. instead ill remind you that tivo's are run with in a linux environment and are highly successful and linux devices dominate the market in a number of sectors dispite being coded by people that arent being paid to do so. you can find more at www.linuxdevices.com
as far as the game space goes, one of the most stable engines ive seen, as well as one of the nicer ones graphically i think any of us have seen in the mmo space is the saga of ryzom's engine. its run on the nel engine and is open source and licensed under the gpl. (more info about that at nevrax.org)
open source, gpl'ed products exist all over the place, linux is only one example, the macos (well the macos used to be, darwin.org is shutting down), ibm has tons of open source projects, sun has a bunch out there, i could go on and on.
but i wont, you get the point =p
Games i'm playing right now...

Touche'. I stand corrected. But you should consider possibly not opening fire with all cannons by saying "if you understood linux at all". I'm rather well versed in it "as an operating system". I failed to consider the facts you pointed out. Not all of us are Linux historians.
You make a great point that there are some great open source packages. The best are professionally run and managed. And that is still the key to a polished product, ready for production. I only hope the devs on a certain project are more professional in their development than they are with their communication and diplomacy skills.
