I can't agree with you more!

I actually played Second Life long ago, I moved from it in the beginning of April of 2004. I  don't dislike the idea or the dream behind Second Life but I must say I dislike it's community highly. I had a few good friends in Second Life but eventually things just got too hard to ignore, more and more griefing was going on everyday. Also, Linden Labs played me dirty. Basically, I paid money for a large amount of virtual land and then Linden Labs turn around and say I never made the purchese, which truly did it for me. The next day I said good bye to my friends in Second Life and said I hope to maybe be able to visit them again. I also went searching for a new home on the internet, and luckily I found one! Yes, I went to the virtual world of There.

That move was for the better. Some of my friends came from Second Life to There but alot of them stayed back. For reasons I truly can't comprehend. Second Life is a game, a game developed by a pack of thieves! But There isn't a game, rather There is a virtual world. I believe There has potential and that it can change the internet both as a service and as a platform. I would say I have stayed in There for a long time because of the potential I think it has. Basically, that and just the amazing things you can do in-world. There's community is great and the creative fibe you get just walking around in-world is simply amazing. However, I really couldn't agree with you more!

The only limitation in There is your own imagination!

THERE sucks just as much as second life! They are both very lame and need to be shut down. Dont believe this JOEL guy, he advertises THERE all over the damn place. He's as retarded as the game!

There is a poor quality graphical predecessor to Second Life, judged by the many There players who left it for Second Life. Some people remain on There, but I would bet mostly because of the community factor. (i.e- they refuse to leave and so socially engage as a community, and it's a little simpler than SL in terms of movement) Of course, that's my opinion. I'm sure Joel would love to argue out in his fanboyish way otherwise, although I'm sure he'd cover the whole game's angle. I'm still learning SL to some degree.

Second Life does have its 'weird' side to it; the excessive focus on porn/BDSM/Gorean cultures, the 'simulated babies' and 'cyber love',etc.

But Second Life also offers a hell of a lot for a sandbox game. Building, economy, chances to make RL money, etc. A lot of roleplay will occur in SL, but you never have to become seriously wrapped up in the game to enjoy it. There are even MMO's within SL!

But like EVE,it's not for everyone. People will be put off by the griefers, the excessive 'XXX' element and so on.

But the griefers do not make up the majority of SL,and it is only because of recent 'Basic Account' changes that they have been on the rise somewhat. There has the same problems I'd assume Joel. But SL and There will crack down on griefers. If you don't like the social interaction and roleplaying, I'd suggest you stop playing MMO's altogether. The only difference in those terms between SL and an average MMO is that you kill things and gain exp/loot in an MMO in-between social interactivity; in SL many more things distract you.

But hell, try to give a decent opinion why you hate Second Life next time,ok?

Ok people, I have dled both games and played them. ............THEY SUX.....hard.  Both of these games are so bad they are totally a disgrace to what an mmo should be if you want to live a life do it in the real world instead of playing life simulators, but if you would like to have some fun and mabye make freinds while chopping up a couple of mobs then shoot for some real MMO's.

    Thanks for the input,

    Peace Out.

The only limitation to There is the lack of game content or objectives :P

I play SL on and off, mostly off tbh. Im a hard core gamer and although its fun to chill playing tringo, the game really is pooey unless you find some good mates and something interesting to do with them but since its full of furries - dont count on it *g*

I agree.  I prefer GAMES- I prefer to play a game where rules are involved and rewards granted.  SL is not a game, rather a bad graphics 3d chat room.  Bore-city in my books.

    SIIIIIIIICK.

A primary reason for games (especially online ones) is to escape the real world. By making a MMO more and more like real life, they're expecting gamers to leave the real world and enter another one.

    Except it's WORSE.

    So once again...

    SIIIIIIIICK.

One area I think SL is good for is if you want to learn how to 3D model in an MMO environment.  It is a cool concept that you can upload and use your own stuff.

That being said, SL is not really my thing.  I do like the "idea" of it , but in practice, its kinda creepy.  And something I would NEVER allow my children to see.

With the current lack of CC information or anything needed to register a free account, dont let your children find out about it (Main Grid) either. Although there is a Teen Grid for them they can try.

I like SL because it's open-ended as hell. Not that I take the social drama seriously at all. Yesterday I discovered that while sitting on an object I could not only alter my position on it,but also apply rotation to the object; the result was a mid-air spinning bench, and in the middle of some newbie lesson as well.

Makes a nice change from being told what to do in MMO's, but not something I would become socially drama involved in.
