You mean the Galactic Civil War, in which 'the actions you take can influence?'

It's a complete joke.  Nuff said.

there is no xp from pvp.

it will take you maybe a week of serious gaming to get to the point of holding your own in pvp (some professions take longer to level than others, ie BH)

there is no "highest" you have 250 skill points to use as you see fit. if you can make a good template, you'll be a good pvper. except soon they are nerfing that. if the classes aren't TRULY balanced by the time they do, combat will be 100% broken.

PvP atmosphere on your typical server is lazy at best. there are some good pvp/rp servers, xplororor seems to know a lot on this matter. mostly, people are just holo chasing and not playing.

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

Well, unless you are a bounty hunter or Commando (or a Creature Handler with 2 Rancor POkemons) you cant really PvP.  I mean, you can, but you'll loose and you wont even get a chance to pull a shot off....no joke.  If you are any other profession (yes even Master Rifleman, pistoleer, or Carbineer) you can only PvP with newbies.

Since 75% of the galaxy are either Bounty Hunter and Commandos, the PvP option isnt really there.

how long to reach the highest?

Highest what? If you're talking about the highest level of profession....it depends on what you are.  My wife and I opened a Jedi Slot by maxing out the professions (on one account)...Entertainers can max out in a week and a half (macros) Medics to Doctors can max out in three weeks, Artisan can max out in 2 days (if you have the credits).  The longest profession we had (we never had to do Bounty Hunter...thank God), was Armorsmith. Armorsmith took about 3 weeks to master

is the pvp worth the xp?

You dont get any xp...you dont get to loot from the person you killed either.  The only good thingyou get is like 12 faction points (if he's on the opposite team)...thats about it.

    how is the pvp atmosphere?

Because of my first point where the Bounty Hunters and Commandos dominate the arena, PvP isn't nowhere what you think it is.

If you love Pokemon, then this game is for you.  You'll see Creature Handlers whip out 3 80 feet turtles a piece to battle each other.  If you do manage to see two people battle each other, it'll last 3 seconds.

Seriously, man, for 50 bucks buy a better game.  We're not dogging the game cause SOE killed our Grandmothers...it really is the worse mainstream mmorpg out there

      1. To have the best chances in PvP you should join either an Imperial or Rebel PA (Player Association aka a guild). Too many players try to fight armies on their own using the failed Rambo Style.

      2. After you are in a Guild, things go much quicker, and much easier. Guilds rule!

      3. Solo PvP players are not very viable because a group will kill off a solo player. Though an experienced solo player can have a chance vs an inexperienced group. But the thing is, whenever PvP happens it is VERY likely news will spread and more enemies will sooner or later come to the scene.

how long to reach the highest?

Humans have the easiest and shortest time rising in the Imperial Ranks. Then the more humaniod the other species, the easier time they have. The more non-humaniod the species (like Wookiees) the harder and longer it will take them to rise up the Imperial ranks.

I would advise you, no matter if you pick Human or another species, to first be neutral. This way you hone your combat skills and moves in PvE. Learn how to shop around for the best gun, and armor. Learn which guns and armor work best for your specific customized character. Then later join the Imperials or Rebels. Better to spend lower levels as a Neutral then join PvP at a high level, than to spend lower levels joining PvP.

And again, joining a PA (Player Association) cuts down the time it takes to gain levels, faction points, etc....

Playing 2 hours every day, with any Species, as a neutral, not in a PA, IMHO would take roughly 2-3 months to reach the highest skill levels, and allow you to buy the best gun and armor possible for your unique and customized character.

If you were in a PA it would take 1 to 2 months to reach the highest levels and get the best gun and armor for your character.

Playing 2 hours every day as a Human in the Empire, and as a member of a PA, would take 1-2 months to gain the highest faction points. As any other species in the Empire it would take 2-4 months to gain the highest faction points, depending on how humanoid the other species you use is.

General rough order of species that have easiest time moving up the Imperial Ranks and easiest time gaining Imperial faction points:

    1. Human

    2. Zabrak

    3. Twi'Lek

    4. Rodian

    5. Bothan

    6. Mon Calamari

    7. Trandoshan

    8. Wookiee

is the pvp worth the xp?

The best weapons, and armor in the game are made by other Player crafters.

Most players PvP just to have Imperial (and maybe Rebel) weapons. Also to get their own personal NPC army. Nothing like having your own squad of Dark Stormtroopers surrounding you as you walk through town. Or toast a Rebel player heheh.

If you are a SW fan then PvP is worth the xp. If you enjoy being able to kill any other PvP player absolutly anywhere and at anytime in the entire game then PvP is worth the xp. Of course, you also will be open to being killed anytime, anywhere in the game heheh.

    how is the pvp atmosphere?

There are 4 unoffcial PvP servers. They have the best PvP atmosphere. There is also some PvP on the unofficial non-PvP servers, but most players on those servers tend to PvE most of the time.

I recommend you join Scylla server and then hook up with either Pax Imperious (Imperial PA) or with KOTOR (rebel PA). They are 2 very famous RPing PvP PAs in the entire game.

Bloodfin server is another hardcore PvP server. Valcyn server is a newer PvP server.

Each server has its own forum. At the top is a sticky created by the game DEVs telling what each server Unoffcially is. If the server has changed or was intended to be PvP then it will be mentioned in the game DEV sticky at the top of each server forum.

Last thing, the SWG forms at this here site MMORPG.com are mostly full of the same 5 SWG bashing posters (and maybe 10 more of their alternate multi accounts so they can bash SWG evenmore) who post over and over and over. Some of them have never ever even played SWG! Some of them last played SWG in Beta but never after release LOL.

And almost none of them have played SWG recently.

You are far better off finding out more information at the following sites:
