Hero Online: Dev Journal: Introduction

DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

We're introduced to Hero Online by its developers in this new developer journal. With no information available, we simply asked them: "What is Hero Online and what will make North American players want to play it?"" Here is their response.

image Imagine for one moment, all sound fading away as light dims into complete darkness. You are alone and there is nothing else besides your self. Gradually, a light begins to form and sound begins to return. At first, they return so slowly you hardly notice, but soon you are flooded with sensory information that all say one thing: You are no longer where you once were. Looking around you realize that you are in the middle of a bamboo forest with green sunlight shining through a canopy of Bamboo leaves. The bamboo stalks serenely sway as you feel the wind breeze easily through the forest. The forest floor is soft and cushiony as you walk around trying to get a bearing of where you are. For every step you make you hear the soft rustle of leaves and smell an indescribable aroma that warms the heart. The sound of birds chirping seems to come from everywhere and nowhere in particular. It is neither loud nor quiet, but perfectly resonated to match the quiet atmosphere of the bamboo forest. Despite not knowing where you are, this place induces an inescapable sense of peace.

This is a cool concept.  I like the background story.  But the official web site had little concrete information about the game features.  It seems to imply that you must be one of four pre-existing characters.  Although skill development will be up to the players choice I'm not sure how much customization they intend.  However cool the concept is I cant enjoy a game without deep character customization and an interesting array of non-combat activities.  These are features generally absent from asian mmorpgs.  It would be great if Hero Online was an exception.  I'll keep an eye on this one.

It's the same engine as "Legend of Ares Online" same company, same everything.... just different sounds, different story, and different grfx, pathetic.

Souns like the target audience may be even more immature than what Conan is trying to appeal to.  Just from this quick excerpt it sounds like this game will have a horrible community.

Hmm, yes, pathetic is the only word the comes to mind... besides disgusting. Sounds like a fusion between guild wars and some asian factory MMO like Lineage, combining the worst parts, of course.
They offered absolutely nothing concrete in that Dev Journal. Besides a vague feeling that they might offer some new pet gimmicks (which are being offered by other up and coming MMOs anyway), I can't see anything being hinted at here that wasn't in EQ.
Come on guys! Innovation! Look it up in the dictionary!

There is an impatient demographic separate from hordes of people who are happy to buy your game no matter what you say or how you make it. And we're all on MMORPG.com waiting for a real game!

They can have a billion weapons and armor in the game and I wont care, they better have a unique combat system and more then 5 faces to choose from with 5 different hair colors. Take a note from Anarchy Online, gfx may be a bit dated, but they have the biggest face/hair selection I've seen in a mmorpg. I want a console style battle system, I hate point and click, F1-10 for skills, boring boring boring stuff, every mmorpg has that. Be ORIGIONAL, I know it's hard now days but atleast give it a shot, people may like it :O  . No one likes Grinding, quests that make you feel like you're at work rather then playing a game, boring battles, boring PvP that is completly unbalanced, boring crafting *I know you cant really make this part fun, but do something different*, add some housing, guild castles, shit like that, mount's that effect your skills and attacks. Koreans are the only ones that love grinding *no offense lol* If you're trying to market in North America, I would suggest putting some effort into making the game fun, rather then making the same quests over and over with different item req's and mosnters to kill. A perfect example of crap is lineage2, avoid that. just try, plese. Thanks for reading , sorry if I was a bit rude, lol.

    Yawn...

Genre sounds interesting, Asian mythos. Game sounds weak though.

Yet another class based game, and this one only has 4 basic classes to chose from.

    I'll pass... thanks.
