Greetings and salutations!
We’re rapidly approaching some very exciting milestones in the development of
The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™. To prepare for the upcoming changes as we get close to beta and launch, we’ll be giving the LOTRO website a facelift. We’re also adding new functionality to the forums (no, we can’t tell you what it is yet – but rest assured, this is big stuff!) and starting fresh with posting. The forums have been online for years now, and we'd like to mark this exciting time by starting with a clean slate. This means we will be wiping the LOTRO forums clean of all posts and inactive users.
On Monday, May 8th, we will close the forums down. Our target date for bringing them (and the new website) back online is May 10th (yup, some of you just added 2+2 and got E3 – coincidence?). There will be several major changes when this occurs:
• All users who have not logged in since January 1, 2006 will be considered inactive and deleted. Active accounts will be carried over to the clean forums.
• All posts will be deleted.
• The forums will be re-organized.
• Custom avatars will no longer be available
• The forums will contain new Forums Guidelines which will supplement the Turbine Code of Conduct.
The forums will re-launch clean and shiny and ready for us to enter Alpha, Beta and then bring
LOTRO LIVE!
What does all of this mean for the LOTRO community? No update on May 4: To give us more time to prepare for E3 and the changes to the LOTRO site, we will not be doing a Thursday update this week.
Log into the forums: If you have a forums account but haven’t logged in for a while, do so now! This will ensure that your account is carried over to the new forums.
Spread the word! If you have a friend who used to post here but no longer does, let them know they should log in before Monday, May 8th if they want to keep their account alive. We want them to participate if they are interested.
Save any posts you want to keep! This will be especially important for Kinships and those who participate in the Role-playing Forum. Turbine will not be keeping a public archive of old posts. Users are encouraged to re-post their important posts on the new forums.
Verify your Email Address: Make sure the email address in your profile is current! This will help us verify your identity if necessary.
Banned users: Banned accounts and banned IP addresses will also be carried over to the new forums. Community members are still required to adhere to the Code of Conduct during these last two weeks before the forums wipe.
European community members: Have you visited the
Codemasters LOTRO forums yet? Codemasters offers a community site complete with forums in several languages!
If you have questions about the upcoming changes, please post them in this thread.
