Guild housing/area

I'm trying to get some information on these area.  Do you fight over them, what can you do in them besides hang out, can you customize them?  Just general infortion would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean the Guild Hall?
If so, then the guild may customize it. They can add different things and change the environment that surrounds the hall.
The Guild Hall is somewhere where guild members can hang out if they like, but mostly they are used for the Guild Battles.
When you enter a Guild Battle, you can either be in your Guild Hall and must conqour the enemy's ship which they arrived in - you are fighting on your turf.
Otherwise, you can arrive in a boat and try to conqour an enemy guild's Guild Hall.

Thats basically Guild Halls in a nut-shell.

Can you lose the hall or anything in the hall?  Can you chose not to war?

 there are new stuff you can do in guildhalls , you can do training battles , any vs any , even 1 on 1 ... you can invite non guild people to your guild hall , and make a 1 vs 1 ... for exemple
