Dont Waste your Time or Money on SWG

I will put it this way. After 17 days of play i just again cancled my subscription. I would like to claim that I am about as die hard of a Star Wars fan as i get and even I'm turn off by this game. I bought the game when it was first released and playted it for a bout a year and a half. I just recently checked out the JTL,(Jump top Lightseep, Rage of the Wookies, and Trials of Obi-wan. The space is cool for about a week then gets completely repetitive and boring. The planet of kashyyk is okay at best. Then the trials of ob-wan doesnt even seem like star wars. It is the planet of mustafar (the lava one from the latest movie) So while the Space expansion was temporarily cool, the other 2 expansions were all about the latest three star wars movies. (whixh except for the third one which was decent, pretty much sucked) It is also like a ghost-sever filled game. The only ones who play it are all jedi, and maybe 1 or 2 complete nebws probably considering dropping it anyway. So dont wast your time. At first in the old days with the old devs loved SWG. The news devs killed the game after the Comabt Upgrade and it has been on its way to death ever since. My advise, dont waste your money or your time.

Hope my brief review was of some help to a few of you. I'm only trying to help =)

Well over 6 months later and people are still talking about what SWG:NGE did to the game. Definitely an interesting thing to note.

Star Wars Galaxies still is and will always be the WORST MMO out there IMO after the Devs implemeneted CU.

That game has been stabbed, raped, burned, fried, electrocuted, infected and hanged by SOE/LA. No wonder why they cant even recover the old coding. Its buried under so much pile of dung, its just best to forget that game even happened.

That game keeps turning up like a bad penny. I just wish they would just bury that damn game and leave what was ever good remembered, not that piece of crap of a game they call Star Wars now.

    whew..

    ok i feel better now..

I played SWG when it first came out and stopped playing it 3 days afterwards and went back to Anarchy Online.  In my opinion, it was inferior back then.

About 3 months ago, I noticed my account was active for whatever reason so I got drawn in.  Went out and bought the latest and greatest.. thought I could really get into it.  I played a few weeks and started noticing bugs..yes..BUGS.  A lot of them as a matter of fact.  Simple things, driving through terrain and getting stuck inside of rocks that spawned around me.  Missions that couldnt be completed.. the list goes on.

so its not so much that they changed the game 360.  I really liked the new combat style..hell even the class progression.  I cannot, and will not tolerate bugs (at this scale in a game that has been out for as many years as this) in an MMO.  I chose to go back to SWG because I thought all of those things would have been worked out.  Im the type of guy who delays playing a game at release until bugs are worked out and balancing is less of an issue.

so, as a so-called "new player" and not a bitter vet.. I can agree with the OP completely.

SWG was the only mmo that held my interest for along time, mainly because of the depth in the game, and the customizability. But the huge numbers of jedi running around when I returned to the game recently just killed the immersion factor. I still think the game is great, but it doesn't follow the Star Wars lore at all.

can we really trust a star wars project with no supervision from lucas arts?

It was garbage before NGE and its still boarderline junk now. I'm playing my free vet time right now. its still the same old SWG except with classes now.

In all honesty, in the scope of being a video game, its not all bad, Sony just sucks and can't competently execute anything.

You don't think SOe was alone in screwing that game up do you ? just because LA isn't vocal about SWG doesn't mean they're not back there pulling strings.

i am more then willing to believe that Lucas arts in return for a check doesnt give a crap what the developers of SWG do.....

that is evident by jedi being so easily obtainable and everyone is one....

    Agreed 100%

Lots of people want to blame Lucas Arts too. If LA was so obsessed about controling SWG and so forth they'd have done the project themselves. No-one credits KOTOR's success to LA having pulled the strings and told Bioware what to do, do they?

SWG is poo, becaus $OE got rid of the original DEVs and then went on thier "revamp rampage". Did LA approve of this? Who knows? The point is if $medley/$OE had'nt approved of it there wouldn't have been a C/U/R/B or NGE. I doubt LA needed to approve 99% of what $OE did, maybe some points concerning Star Wars lore or anything in danger of infringing on another LA game/franchise. However that wouldn't be very big and they probably have someone from LA as an advisor concerning these points that they run by any possibile infingments. Well that's just my opinion anyway, take it or leave it. Either way SWG smells of wee and biscuits!
