What the... I'm curious

Upon hearing Turbine was making LotR Online I admit I was curious and saw it in the same light as DDO... Meaning another "parent" of modern fantasy brought to video rpg life. I apparently made the mistake of never reading the overview on this site.

On the other forums here I've been somewhat ranting about the problems of licensed games and where such games should take place time-line wise. Until now I had hope that they would set the game after the books in order to give players a fresh start, but it took reading the E3 teaser on IGN.com then reading the overview here to comfirm the... horror for lack of a better word.

Finding out the game takes place smack in the middle of the main storyline did nothing but confirm that licenses should be avoided in the MMO part of the gaming industry. I suddenly feel like I'm on the recieving end of the urukai on elf porn legend from Tales You Won't Find in the Similarion.

Far more than any bitching I've heard about no pvp in the game (which makes sense now given the games storyline placement) am I the only one who sees this as a huge lack of imagination on Turbine's part?

I feel like I did when my cousin told me he thought the movies came before the books...

To each his own I guess. I like the direction as of right now but I know some people won't. Here's hoping for the best.

For the record, I'm not trying to flame the game or troll if it came across that way. Sorry if that was the case. I was only interested in getting the opinions of those waiting for this game to see if they wanted to play the game embedded in the books' storyline or rather one where they might have more free reign.

Well, Turbine has stated that LotRO will have it's own rich story to follow. Hence, "Shadows of Angmar". Yes, the story in the books will be happening but we will also follow our own stories. We are the B-Team, not that it's bad or anything.

We will be able to meet and help certain members of the Fellowship but in what fashion is still unknown. I think we'll have to wait until beta to see if Turbine has made a mistake on setting the game during the third age. I still think they are doing a good job.

The game starts at the point were frodo and co first leave the shire, not smack in the middle of the story, which would put it in the middle of two towers. When it was MEO it was starting at the time the fellowship left moria. Turbine pushed that back to the time i mentioned. Thus the reason why eriador is the only area at lauch. This game is set in the time of the third age because that is the time that the books are set in. They don't have license to the silmarillion so they can't set it in the previous ages. They have to work within the license that they were given by tolkien enterprise and all that they do has to pass TE approval or they loose there license.
