amd for games...

im not sure how stupid a question this is, but theres definitely a possibility it could be. ive noticed a large number of games tend to make a point in the system requirements that the processor is a pentium # #mhz/ghz. do they only do this because there isnt as large a demand for amd as pentium, or will the game just not work with amd?
