PotBS Beta Update

Aether posted an update on the status of beta. Looks like we'll have to wait just a little bit more.

Much is happening behind the scenes here at Flying Lab Software, not the least of which is focused on the introduction of the long awaited beta program. To clarify, as of the date of this posting, the Beta Program for Pirates of the Burning Sea has not yet begun. What that means is that no one, outside of the Flying Lab Software offices, has participated in the testing of our game.

While we anticipate being able to begin beta at some point in the very near future, there are external administrative issues that have caused a delay in our efforts. These external issues are under NDA, and as such, we cannot comment on them. With that being said, the entire team is using the extra time to prepare and polish in anticipation of your imminent arrival. It is with that in mind that we have created this brief update on the status of the Pirates of the Burning Sea Beta Program.
An important part of managing the beta program involves processing new bugs from our beta testers, and sharing the most up-to-date information on changes and improvements to the game world. For our knowledge base and incident processing, we’re using software by RightNow Technologies. Other folks who use RightNow’s software in this way include Valve, EA, and NVIDIA. We’ve configured our knowledge base and added quite a bit of information to it to include answers to questions that we expect our Beta users to have (such as information from the Beta Users Guide, updated FAQs, and so on). We’ve also configured the incident management system to properly route bug reports and GM Moderation Requests.

Equally important is the preparation of the external hardware we will use during the beta process. This involves the extensive testing of those systems, including publishing the latest builds of our game and actively being able to use them.

As you would imagine and expect, a lot of work goes into managing a beta program like ours, and the development team has been hard at work assuring our beta testers will experience a solid, functional beta testing process. The good news is that these critical systems and processes, created to support the PotBS Beta are up, running, and ready for live!

We know it isn’t easy to wait, but your support, enthusiasm, and continued patience is truly valued; that’s why it was important for us to share this information with you. I know I speak for everyone when I say that we look forward to the moment when we can begin inviting beta testers to actively participate in the Pirates of the Burning Sea beta program.

Cheers,
Troy ‘Aether’ Hewitt
Envoy, Pirates of the Burning Sea
